Really cheap hotel stays $41 in Cairo like $50 in Prague, some are just for weekends but great if you are planning a holiday with friends as you can stay in a novatel for less than a hostel and no fleas , lice or diseases to worry about.
Not sure I will be staying in Cairo atm!

Meah what are you people worried about. Now is the best time to visit Egypt. With the downturn in tourism you'll have more haggling power when it comes to souvenirs. And yes hotels will be cheap.
I'm a little disappointed I thought we had some hardcore bargain hunters here… Don't you people know crisis/war/riots are the best opportunities for bargains.
If you want to avoid the mayhem perhaps consider Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada.
Perhaps I'm a little more adventurous than most… I visited Egypt (Hurghada) during the military coup in 2011 (not an issue at all).
The whole country hasn't collapsed. There's only unrest in certain areas.
The only thing I would be cautious of is travel insurance. Just make sure it covers you with a travel warning in place.
There is a pretty big difference between a military coup and all out riots. How about you go there, take a photo of yourself in the middle of Tahrir square for us, and then we'll believe you.
I agree, Hurghada really doesn't count. You wouldn't have really wanted to be travelling in Cairo in the first couple of months of 2011.
Look normally its the tourists in egypt that get bombed , I would go while the crazies are all distracted.
