    Thanks., OP

Thanks, always appreciative of extra dropbox space :).

nice to have an extra gig, i have about 18gb with them and it never seems to be enough with the photos continuously adding up.

  • Can I get it if I don't have any Apple products? Do I have to install iTunes?

    • +1

I just tried linking Mailbox on my iPhone to two different Dropbox accounts and got the bonus 1Gb on each Dropbox right away. I think the point of this, similarly to the bonus for letting the Dropbox upload photos from your iPhone, is to get you using Dropbox for a bunch of iPhone related stuff, get you dependent - on the teat so to speak - and keep you engaged in the hope that you'll spend money one day.

Also, I see a few folks who don't have iDevices. I have spare gmail accounts and spare iDevices, I don't mind having a shot at temporarily linking an iPad to your Dropbox account if you don't mind taking the risk that I might be lying when I promise not to browse your porn collection! PM me! :-)

        • +1

Thanks for the friendly offer, but if I can't get it without owning an Apple product then I'll pass. I've got 54gb in my dropbox already anyway :)

      • Douglasb, I think it's much more sinister/simpler than that.

the company simply wants you to store your digital life on their servers - to create a dependency.
This way, you (the consumer), have another reason to stay with the company
in a competitive market, keeping a customer is a lot harder than attracting one.

IF I am nice, I will not touch the customer's files.

        IF I am Mr Sinister

I will mine their data + meta data to cross sell and make even more money.
I would charge the NSA boys when they want access instead of letting them sneak around and peep for free.

Requires iOS6… :( That rules me out… the iPad1 is stuck on iOS5.

What happens if I unlink? How long does it take to do this?

    • +1

I got the bonus pretty much instantly after linking. I unlinked. It hasn't disappeared yet. Time will tell.

      • How long would it take to do, do you think?

        • +1

Wotchoo mean? The link, unlink, lose the bonus? Some Dropbox bonuses are, like Chuck Finley, forever. Others disappear after a while. This might last an hour, a week, longer… who knows!

It says win a girls' wee in the first screenshot

  • +1

    thanks!

  • +3

    0.8% used of 64gb. Nicee.

    • Keep a close eye on that. It sucks when Dropbox work out that all your referrals are fake and take away more space than you have free! Not that I'd have any first-hand experience of that sort of thing, oh no, not me! :-)

      • What, when have dropbox ever killed off dropbox space from fake referrals?

        • +2

They killed ALL of my referrals about six months ago. They're all still listed on the 'bonus' page, but the 'Space earned' column says 'Ineligible'.

See: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3485/k0q6.png <—- that's a screenshot of part of my referrals list :-(

The first I knew of it was the Dropbox client refusing to upload more files and telling me I'd used 250% of my available space.

        • When that happens, I know you're unable to upload anymore but are you able to just leave that stuff there? If so, for how long?

        • Jesus.. lucky my main account is fine, I used google adwords for that.
My secondaries might not be so lucky :|

theguyrules probably has a Samsung phone, they did a promo a while back where I think you got 50GB free just for installing Dropbox on your galaxy. I'm an iPhone owner and jealous, but it's okay. 1GB extra is enough for me, plus I get a decent phone to work with every day!

        • +3

Yeah, got the 50gb from my Galaxy S3. Nothing fake here.

        • Awesome :-)

  • -6

This is not possible on an iphone 3 even with ios6, lol.
This crappily designed "mailbox" application doesn't let you click ok - only cancel at the account login stage, because it won't let you scroll left or right only up and down on the web page.

It's designed for high res displays only lol.
    EDIT:
Reboot of phone fixed this - but initially the form was coming up in a low resolution, unable to see / read the accept button.

    EDIT2:
One more thing - thanks to OP. Ionly have until 2014 until my Samsung S3 48gb runs out and I'm back to 3gb >:( and how lame is that, I never got a bonus 48gb from my S4 - weak.

    • on problem on my iphone 3

  • +3

That's a really slick app. Worth it even if you have plenty of dropbox space.

  • -4

Is this that stupid app that was invite only?

  • +1

Thanks OP, got my 1GB then deleted the app. Will hold off a bit longer before unlinking the accounts.

  • +1

Anyone with tips to maximise free dropbox space?

    • +1

      Avoid uploading so much ;)

      • Why?

        • +4

Its a joke :P "To get more free space, delete stuff from it"

    • +1

      fiverr.com

  • I tried to link Dropbox from Mailbox on iphone, but it asked for a Dropbox passcode, any idea what this is?

    • +5

That's the passcode you set to access dropbox on your iphone. It's set by the user, for security - to stop others from snooping on your files. Others does not include the NSA.

      • thankQ

  • thanks op!

  • Great!! works a treat!!

  • +2

I wonder if they will also do the same for Android too?

  • Bloody Hell, I already had mailbox linked to Dropbox. Deleted app re-installed and linked to dropbox - instant 1g upgrade!
    Brilliant.
