Allen's "Limited Edition" Plastic Party Bowl Set 2pcs for $0.01

420

Couple of plastic bowls with smiley faces on them.
I didn't want any. But hey someone might think of a use for them.
Woolies in Thornleigh, NSW is where I saw them.
I assume others would have them too.

How does it work if you buy two of them? Is it free?

    • only if you pay cash…

      • what happens if you buy 1 with a 1cent piece would they accept it?
And then if you took it to another Woolies and returned it would you get 5c back?

what happens if you buy 1 with a 1cent piece would they accept it?

          Yes, it's still legal tender…

        • Hmm neat, thanks. Also neat website thanks for that too.

Actually, 1c and 2c pieces are still Australian legal tender, but they are no longer considered as ‘currency’ (or, money that is officially released for circulation). You can still take your 1c and 2c coins to the bank and exchange them for currency totalling the same face value.

Shops don't have to (and probably won't) accept 1c and 2c pieces any more.

In fact many of the people serving you in the shops would not ever have seen an Australian one or two cent piece in circulation.

        • where do you get a 1c piece?

        • +1

Old people have them in jars and at the bottom of draws.

Great for use as a potty after large intakes of Allens lollies.

These will be worth a lot of money one day…

    • +2

Imagine what they be worth on ebay in a few years.

      • +9

They could nearly double in value, for sure!

        • If you get one with the Virgin Mary on it, it would be worth at least triple

  • These came free if you bought 2 large packs of Allens lollies before… Now they're just free (or 1c if you want to be pedantic). Obviously the take up of the previous offer wasn't as expected LOL.

They were free.. Why would they spend money (a lot of money) making something in Australia. It's just not practical.

    • hmmm…using your logic, why don't people buy locally made cars?

They should turn these upside down and sell them as hats for more money ;-)

I picked up 5 at Newcastle West this afternoon for 1cent each - they were hidden away on an end display with no pricetag but scanned at 1 cent

    • 26c later…

  • They were giving them away at the checkout of my local WW. They offered them when I went through with my groceries.
