Dyson DC34 Animal + Docking Station $271.95 Inc Postage

80

Received this in an email from Amex Express. Dyson DC34 Animal handheld for $259 + $12.95 postage. Plus it came with a docking station that charges the unit when not in use.

I've bought a Dyson before and it was awesome, looked like a good deal to me :)

This series has widespread problems with cutting out intermittently. Either a problem with the switch or elecrronics.

Agreed. We got one a couple of years ago when it was a relatively new model. Since getting it, we've had that exact problem all the time. It's the battery which is loose and as you move the vacuum around, the battery will lose contact with the unit and the vacuum will stop. Sometimes it will work when you press the switch again, other times you actually have to move the battery a bit so that it resumes contact with the unit. It's a rather annoying issue considering that it is a Dyson. We took it to the repair centre 3 times already and they couldn't fix it completely. It's just a design issue I guess.

      • "Just a design issue"

When a vacuum cleaner manufacturer fails to design/manufacture a working vacuum there is something wrong with the customer paying the bill for their mistake.

Honestly, I wish there was something online way of tracking faulty products, and say anything with >5% failure rate (obviously this would vary depending on the item) would force a product recall so that the manufacturer pays for (and learns from) their mistake.

Yes I realise there are impracticalities with recording this information.

Why bother to make this post? There are a surprising number of dud products (on an engineering level) on the market, with the manufacturer continuing to produce and sell the product even when they know there is a problem. I've been caught on an item with 80% failure rate 12 times now. Sad to have bought 15 at the same time to have them all fail. You might say I'm irked by that. I threw the last three working ones away, they weren't worth the effort, and no doubt they probably would have failed too. Hewlett Packard Printers, FYI. And their support staff actually admitted it was an engineering fault too BTW.

Looks like it doesn't come with the long pole that the retailers include with the DC34.
    Need that pole!

    • I agree. I definitely pay the extra to get the stick version. Our big vacuum has been warming the bench since we got ours.

If you're considering a stick, and you've got hard floors then the new dyson hard might be worth waiting for.

Spend a bit more and get the DC44 Animal, comes with 2x motorised brushheads for floor and and car/lounge seats and has an average of 20minute run time on a full charge. (Includes long stick and docking kit as well)

      +1 this

Bought one when PetersofKensington had the deal of pay$75 for each $100 vouchers. I have never touched the corded vacuum cleaner ever since.

    • What's the cheapest price this has been?

The girlfriend and I got the DC39 animal and I gotta say we are extremely underwhelmed by the performance.
Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty decent vacuum cleaner, but for the ~$530? we paid for it, it's not even remotely worth the money. I wish we just got a 100-200 half decent one, then just bought a universal adapter off ebay to use the tricky dyson heads (this is about the only thing they make significantly better). I've tested display models of these handheld ones and have been equally underwhelmed.

Point of my rant being; I don't believe dyson deserve the hype they receive by a long shot. No value for money at all. Our old aldi vacuum cleaner is close the the suction strength of the dyson and was only $69ish :.. the head on it is just poor.

Better prepare myself for some serious negging no doubt :p but hey, just my experience with them.

    • Dyson are the Apple of vacuum cleaning. They make good products, but are overpriced for what you get. They sell on marketing alone. They are not going to make a range of product for low income earners, so don't expect a cheap vacuum cleaner from them, just as Apple has yet to make a cheap iPhone or iPad (although rumor has it a cheap iPhone is on the way).
