Was looking to buy these tags for my next trip and saw Qantas are having a sale on them online.

A worthy investment and good deal for the regular traveller!

Join frequent flyers and you get these for free when you get silver status. If you don't fly often these are a waste of money, and if you do fly often you get them for free.
At that price, these thing would want to find my lost luggage themselves!
They are totally useless. I have them (got them free Silver Qantas Club). They don't scan very well on the luggage rack. I was talking to the qantas rep about it and she said that bags got lost a lot more often with them too. I stopped using mine.
guess the price is a "bargain" compared to the ripoff normal price
but yeah… these are pieces of shit
They're cheaper on Ebay.
$29.95 for a luggage tag?!?! really??!? what a jib.
ridiculously overpriced from an over priced airline
happy with my free personalised KLM tag

these are RFID tags for Qantas domestic.
Easier check in, syncs with your flight number and boarding pass etc.
Still a waste of money to buy.
I sold my Platinum Q-Tags on eBay for the ridiculous price of $100 (and know other frequent flyers who've dumped theirs on eBay for a nice profit). Happy to get rid of them for that much, particularly when they're absolutely useless to me as most of my travel is international (where the RFID feature of Q-Tags isn't available). :)
As others said, these are pretty pointless if you don't travel regularly (and if you do, you're likely at least a QFF Silver, which gets them for free).
Iv got 2 sets (4) both sets free once when i was silver then new ones when i went gold. Fly domestic only weekly and had no issues except once where they lost my bag when i went mel-dar via syd and my plane was late arriving into sydney. Everyone elses bags except people with thess tags arrived. Im guessing as the handlers couldnt read the tags.
Im wondering if you sell them how do they reprogram them as there aligned to you FF number?

Q-Tags are only linked to your FF account/personal details/flight booking when they are scanned at check-in before your flight. Q-Tags don't otherwise have any of your details stored in them, and they are not associated with any FF account.

So free to share or sell them; the person who buys will have no problem using it with their own personal information. (BTW, if they don't have FF status themselves, they won't get priority baggage with a Gold or Platinum Q-Tag. The tag itself doesn't confer any status benefits.)
Cheers thanks for the info i dint relise that
Thanks for the laugh. :)
I can't think of anything less OzBargainish than paying cash for free (if you're a QF regular) luggage tags on an airline which only rarely has bargain fares!
Frequent flyers not only dislike these tags, but do not check through baggage when carryon is possible.
On another note - re. the free QF Epiqure membership: no deals there have tempted me yet and I'm a bit of a 'quality' wino… ;)
which only rarely has bargain fares!
I hope you are meaning domestic only! There would be many here who would beg to differ with regards to international fares ;)
They have great biscuits and John Farnham on their onboard entertainment, what more could you want in a domestic flight?
Living in Canberra, I often find Qantas to be as cheap if not cheaper than Virgin for trips to other cities to see the family once check in luggage is accounted for. I recall hearing they are a bit more competitive with their ACT legs as they don't run Jetstar to Canberra and they want to keep the public service employees who fly in and out on a weekly basis on side.
In any event, I actually find Qantas to be very viable for my trips.
Need a quality vomit bag
how is this a deal ? just go to the airport and get a free plastic one
These are RFID tags!
I second that notion… they should give something better for Silver FF members instead of luggage tags!!!
Can someone please explain what these are for, and what's the benefit of having one as compared to a cheap luggage tag with your contact details written on it?
Since they only work within the Qantas network, I'm surprised Qantas isn't trying to give these away to attract customers in the first place.
Same here. What are these used for?
This is not a bargain.
This is a bloody rip off!
Is there anything worth buying from Qantas (other than a flight) that's around the $250 mark? I got an email from Amex the other day saying that I'd receive 2000 bonus points if I spent $250 with Qantas in one transaction.
Those points have a value of perhaps $10, why would you go out of your way to spend $250 to earn them?
Ok, so more bad reviews than good… I don't have silver membership, I thought this was going to make my life easier flying, but I guess more issues/hassles than what they're worth.
Maybe I'll just stick to the standard paper tags…
Seemed like a bargain when I came across it.
I use them for every domestic trip and have found them simple to use while also reducing checkin time although i'm not not sure i'd pay for them. No problems with losing baggage or scanning.
What happens once you loose your silver membership after getting this for free (silver tag). Will they issue a peasant tag for free.
do you loose memberships often?
Regular travellers would sign up to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, by doing so they'll get their Q Tags as soon as they hit silver and all other subsequent tiers (gold, platinum, platinum 1 & chairman) … I presume this is better fitted to the 3/4 times domestic or 1-2 international per year traveller.
