Tesla Model S - The car of the future

I have been knowing and checking the electric car company, called Tesla which is based in Silicon Valley for the last 5-10 years or so. They have finally in their stage 2 master plan - a mid size luxary sedan that can travel 265 miles in one single charge. According to their plan, in stage 3 which is about 3-4 years away, they'll bring out an affordable smaller size eletric car for a price of $30,000USD. I'm hoping one day I can drive one of these in Australia. It looks pretty cool and very environmental friendly. Hope you guys enjoy watching the videos.

Imagine if everyone had one. This will only be feasible if the world goes to renewable energy and battery technology gets a whole bunch better.

    • yep, combine with the ever advancing Solar and Wind Energy power in the future, I'm certain one day everyone can own one :)

    • I don't see why renewable energy has anything to do with the feasibility of this vehicle. Sure it will make the impact greater, but that isn't the same thing.

      • I guess the parent commenter meant that if you still need to burn coal or oil to produce electricity to power this car, the no-emission benefit is somehow nullified.

        • two things…

electricity generation by any means (even coal) is more efficient that internal combustion

          electricity generation centralises the pollution

50,000 electric cars in the city vs. 50,000 petrol cars

which has the better air quality?

          Venice

  • Great to see electric cars actually starting to look cool. Definitely looking forward to these cars becoming more mainstream :)
One problem I see though… Computers and gadgets tend to screw up. And when everything runs off the computer, I can see problems there. You walk away from your car expecting it to lock itself, and the computer freezes or something you know?

    • Not really different to any car today.

Wow I would love to drive that and I'm far from being a car nut. Just look at the size of the monitor in the centre console. Be careful not getting booked while refreshing OzBargain at the traffic light :)

$65k pioneer price for the latest tech is actually not bad. A smaller $30k electric car would definitely be welcomed. However that probably means $60k when it comes down under :(

    • Once Tesla reaches 1 million smaller electric cars production plan per year, I'm hoping our local car manufacturers will bring out their own versions of cheaper electric cars with similar technology that can meet local demand.

  • Amazing,

  • Only problem is there has to be plenty of charging stations especially on road trips
They also have these at the states
