Exped - DownMat 7 M Sleeping Mat

Heat loss is dramatically reduced with down insulation inside the mat, as demonstrated by EMPA, the Swiss Federal Labaratories for Materials Testing and Research, and field tests by expeditions. The thick cushion of air also provides comfort and smooths out uneven ground. And as down compresses extremely well, Downmats packs smaller than other insulated mats.

Both low profile valves (pat. pend) one for inflation and the other for deflation ensure ease of use. As the valves are flat and not on the mat‘s edge they do not protrude and are therefore protected and durable.
Light foam blocks at the mat‘s ends prevent down from escaping or migrating between chambers.
Laminated polyester fabric is both durable, airtight and humidity resistant. The shell‘s top surface is of brushed polyester fabric that provides excellent slip resistance and comfort next to the skin. Dark colors dry quickly. The seams are high frequency welded for durability.
Two loops at the head end can be used to secure the packsack to the mat when used as a pillow.
Light and warm: The DownMat 7 M has a R-Value of 5.9. At about the same weight a standard 2.5 cm selfinflating mat only has a R-Value of 2.5. Further EMPA tests demonstrated that regular mats lose 3x more heat to cold ground than to the air. The conclusion: use a lighter weight sleeping bag with a DownMat to achieve consistent overall comfort, and still reduce weight and bulk!
Exped only uses IDFL-certified goose down, specially treated to eliminate the effects of humidity that may reach the mat‘s interior.

So it's a self inflating single mattress?

    • It is not a self inflating mat, You need to inflate it with the integrated pump which comes with the mat.

    • yeah i didnt get what it was either, not a very good description, REP - maybe you should say camping matt or something… eg what you actually use it for….

Im reading a paragraph or two and i still dont know exactly what you use the product for!

  • HI product description is at the top, Exped - Downmat 7 M Sleeping Mat

  • Nice looking mat!! Just got back from buying a similar mat from Mountain Designs. Guaranteed not as good though!! Why you no post yesterday?? :)

    Nice domain name.

  • Good Australian price. Classic, well liked mat good to above snowline in Australia. Was my mat of choice for years before the NeoTherm Xtherm.

  • Good mat. But I do not have spare $100 for this. very tempted though.

  • Is this a clearout of the old stock that develops leaks around the air inlets? Also, are any other sizes up for grabs? i wouldn't mind downgradingh from my current massive LW model

    • This isnt a clear out of dodgy stock it will be placed back to full RRP by Sunday evening. If you would like to check the website to see the other models available www.hiking.com.au

  • What's the warranty on Exped mats? Given the identified delamination and perforation problems a few people have had I'd want at least a 10 year guarantee.

    • For Aus warranty claims, return to point of purchase and they deal with it.
      Warranty is 5 years.

    • Exped will replace all mats with a delamination problem or seem problem regardless of the age of mat as far as i have seen.

      • When they actually say so publicly I'll consider buying one.

        • Should be covered beyond 5 year warranty under consumer legislation for major fault like delamination.

Had delamination (manufacturing fault, as layers of outer material separated) with a Kathmandu self-inflating mat - at nearly 3000m in Japan. NEVER AGAIN! Ruined my walk through the mountains, attempting to sleep on a mat that kept changing thickness as I rolled over & sounded like a rustling crisp packet.

(delamination etc can be caused by misuse: fully inflating mat & leaving in hot place (in sun, near fire) which causes air to expand, popping seams or material - always read the manual!)

Thats why I got this mat. BUT, my mat would deflate slowly overnight. When I initially complained to store they told me to repair it with the included repair kit. (Seems they thought I had punctured the mat, rather than it being a manufacturing fault.)

The fault - minute perforations along join between upper & lower surfaces in middle of mat. Used soapy water to find fault (with a bit of pressure applied by bending inflated mat over). Recorded video of bubbles, & marked fault with chalk. Took it back to store & received a new mat a week later.

  • Great mat. Great price. Have used for a few years. Comfy sleep & wonderfully warm with ice & snow all around. Paid a lot more than this.
Just packing mine for a trip to mountains in Japan. I have given up taking a tent, just a good mat & sleeping bag.

  • Was looking at these a couple of months ago but couldn't justify cost, much easier decision at this price.

Just bought 2 of the 7 LW Downmats.

  • I am bummed I missed out. Anyone have buyers remorse and want to sell me theirs? PM me.
