  • blah hi tops

  • A carton of Budweiser is on sale in the current Thirsty Camel catalogue QLD for $39. So will first choice beat that price per carton?

    • First Choice have a price match policy so I can't see why not.

    • Sadly not in the Vic Catalogue

  • I'm willing to offer a pair of Converse Allstars without two cartons of Budweiser for just $95.00! :-)

  • Excuse my ignorance on Converse shoes, are these mens, womens, or you get to choose either?

    • +1

They're unisex shoes, though I'd say you see more women wearing high tops than men.

please don't buy Anheuser-Busch's lesser "King of Beers" American Budweiser…

the better original "Beer of Kings" Czech Budějovický Budvar, which they copied and twisted, is cheaper at $39.99 using a $20 Grays voucher - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109498#comment-1487177

life's too short for bad beer, even for a free pair of shoes - or is it actually free beer with a purchase of shoes? :)

Well, beer is highly subject to taste, and there's just way too much snobbery on the subject. Some people like hops and bitterness, some people like roasted flavours, some people like additives like herbs or orange peel, some people like it to be very light like corona. Saying one is better than the other is like saying Indian food is better than Italian food. On top of all that, beer flavours experience trends and fashions just like anything else.

Different beers go with different foods and in different settings, and beers internationally are interesting because it reflects the local palate and foods. I'm certainly not going to say one beer is better than the other, particularly when Budvar tastes and is made very different to American Budweiser (American adjunct lager and Czech pilsner) with different goals in flavour. This whole Bud copying issue is a basically trademark/marketing one.

I personally like beers like bud when you feel like sitting there working your way through a case while watching sports or something, and aren't there to appreciate crafted flavour balance which you will lose sensitivity to anyway after 6 beers due to palate fatigue.

      • This whole Bud copying issue is a basically trademark/marketing one.

it's not only just about the name Budweiser, but also the American beer itself and its slogan were copied/inspired/twisted from the Czech:

In 1876, Adolphus Busch and his friend Carl Conrad, a liquor importer, developed a "Bohemian-style" lager, inspired after a trip to the region. Busch and Conrad had visited another town, only 104 km (65 mi) south of Pilsen, also known for its breweries: Budweis (or Böhmisch Budweis, today's České Budějovice).

The Budweiser from Budějovice has been called "The Beer of Kings" since the 16th century. Adolphus Busch changed this slogan to "The King of the Beers".

  • Why would you pay that much for bad beer?
Oh of course the bad shoes to go with.

  • Almost fell over when I found out the local was selling cartons of this. Is it brewed in America or under license here?

Let me think this one through.

Daughters Birthday - Shoes are a good Gift. I either

    1. Go out and buy Chucks - Maybe get them cheaper - $70

    OR

    1. Buy 2 Cartons of Beer and get shoes for free (Re gift the voucher)

    No brainer for me.
Even after 2 cartons, i will be no Brainier

  • Just picked up a pair of cases from the local liquorland for $85 and completed the claim successfully.

Perfect timing for me. Needed beer and some new shoes.

Got my voucher via registered post today. Seems to just be a $90 Hype DC gift card. Can't see anything on it that would restrict it to a certain type of shoes. The letter included with it doesn't mention a restriction either…
