Hi SBP. Sorry I just saw your comment now but thought it important enough to respond.
Very valid point you raise and just so you know, it was selected at complete random. A family member just pulled a name out of a hat of all the couples that entered the competition, then a 2nd name followed by a third name. Just in case the 'winner' was not able to follow through.
As it turned out the 'winner' location was where the photographer grew up and had no desire to go for a holiday (Brisbane). There were several entries that were far more appealing, (Whitsundays x 3 entries, Great Barrier reef/Cairns, even interstate).
The rules were very clear, You have to get married between 1 September and 30 April and the date needed to be free if it wasn't already booked by other clients. Did you read the competition details?
There were a couple that entered that clashed with already booked appointments and they were notified straight away.
Anyway, just wanted to clear up any confusion you may have had. Good luck with your photography business.
So I'm wondering if the "winner" will be the wedding location that represents the best holiday destination to the photographer.
I'm not criticising that but i question the ethics of calling it a competition if this is the case. Do we know how the winner will be determined?
For disclosure, I'm have a photography business (www.simplybeautifulphotography.com.au), so my views might not be objective and may also be perceived as being slanderish if this photographer is one of my competitors.
I am mindful of the need to disclose this since OZbargain does not have a box which lets you state if you are a competitor, only if you are associated.
Anyway, I wish I thought of it, its a good idea. They just should be clear on the rules of engagement thats all
