Used to only be available via Virgin but Jetstar are now flying from Brisbane to Hobart direct too and to celebrate they're puttin' on a bit of a sale including other Hobart flights to/from other locations.

Might want to change heading to indicate the other flights are from/to Hobart only, rather than now which can give the impression that this could be for other locations and connections, if you get my drift
That betterer?
Praise the lord
Hobart to Perth… Via Brisbane? You have got to be kidding!
I looked at their offer - it's a 15 hour trip! You could be in Dubai in less time!
@madge
rather be in Brisbane myself
You could be in America in less time!
Yeah….. the dodgy thing is they just canned their direct Coolangatta to Hobart route that I had booked for Xmas. Can refund or reroute of course, but a pain in the arse thats for sure, especially travelling with infants.
Further to Gravys comment, how does a service industry like an airline cancel routes on thousands of people spontaneously and without thought for the costs that those passengers might have incurred?
It will really put a sour taste in my mouth if I have to see another Jetstar ad of smiling happy holidaymakers cartwheeling on beaches. The reality will be more like anxious southern Gold Coasters forced to get up with their toddlers at 3am, on the road by 4am if they are well organised, gridlock at Logan at 5am, sweating anxiously at another Gateway carpark at 5:45am, and then toddlers crying at the Jetstar counter because the family haven't arrived half an hour early for the 6:15 out of Brisbane and are refused service.
I too had a fully paid holiday in Hobart thrown into turmoil today when we were advised that my wife and my three year old and I must leave from Brisbane. We live at Currumbin, 5 minutes from Coolangatta and plan our holidays based on this negligible travel time to the airport. We are cancelling, and have been offered $50 - in the form of a Jetstar voucher.
Wow, thank you Jetstar!
Yep its a shocker for sure, Ive only received a generic email so far rather than a call. We are actually driving up from Coffs Harbour region to fly out of the GC and were planning to stay with my parents at Ballina the night before the flight. Not quite sure what to do now, but might reroute via Sydney or Melbourne (still from GC). Changing over is likely to be a hassle with kids though, which is why a direct flight was so inviting.
Yep it's the low cost trend. Try Scoot, AirasiaX, Tiger Virgin, they all do the same. Its a cost thing, flying empty planes, having planes and crews in reserve etc all cost.
Not saying I like it, but it is an economics thing to save money.
At least with Jetstar you got an option to cancel and get a voucher, when Scoot did the same I got an alternative flight option a day later and NO voucher or ability to cancel.
This situation is a little different though, Jetstar have pulled out of the route completely from GC to Hobart even though they have taken bookings for that route for well after their closure date: "Jetstar Airways will cease operating services between Hobart and the Gold Coast from 26 October 2013."
My flight was booked for 22nd December. Surely any self respecting company would set a date for closure THEN not take any bookings for after that date? I understand they are a budget airline but this is very poor form even in light of that fact.
This means tens of thousands of customers will be disadvantaged by this, its not just a case of them cancelling a flight on a particular day and making you fly a day later (which is annoying enough I know).
Just think about it, all airlines book 12 months in advance. So if there is one person on a flight 12 months in advance, then they dont cancel it.
Totally agree its a problem for that person (and in this case you), and that it will piss people off, but they will need to take a hard decision if these flight's are not popular enough.
Also in my case (SCOOT) they decided to cancel that flight permanently. You cant fly on that day to the same destination even now, and like you said why when they could have looked and seen people booked.
And no it wasnt just annoying, it meant I missed all my connections and bookings that were also prepaid. And I had been careful to allow for a 15 hour transfer just in case of delays. So that also for me was "poor form". Oh and instead of any offer for compensation, I was given nothing, even when I rang and asked. Then I had to wait for 3 days for them to confirm I could transfer at no charge to a flight a day earlier, rather than fly the day later which they decided beforehand was the one I MUST take.
So I go back to, cheap flights come at a cost have a look here., and again you did get some compensation, which yes I agree also wasn't much, but again compared to SCOOTS attitude was far better, and the alternatives aren't any better see here..
That's a really good price.
