Please amend OP to clarify ambiguous wording. :)

What are the expiry dates on the coupons like - It says 2013/14… I'm guessing most items will expire quite early in 2014?

  • +3

    Expiry is 1st June, 2014.

  • +2
    • They're always discounted for existing members - each member can purchase up to 2 other editions. I've purchased interstate ones in the past for holidays and they make a big difference.

I posted this deal as I've noticed others asking where to purchase them so just to let them know.

      • -5

yes, but your post isnt a 'bargain' really.. you even said yourself "I posted this deal as I've noticed others asking where to purchase them so just to let them know"

if you want to let people know where to purchase them submitting it as a bargain on here is probably not where it belongs

    • +5

      save $10 - $45 for existing members

That price is only for additional books.

    • I still cant figure out how to access this offer. help? i am an existing member, should i use the old profile?

      • Existing Entertainment book member? If so, contact the person you bought it from if you need to get a copy at your member price.

        • Thx for the reply, but I bought it at a pharmacy! I've shifted to vic since and dunno where to buy one now…

        • If you bought one already for 2013/2014 then use that profile. If you haven't then you are not entitled to the reduced rate yet. You must buy one at the full rate for the current year first.

  • -6

this really isnt a bargin… just advertising!

    • +5

Saving $9 postage off the previous pricing is worthy of posting IMHO.

    • +5

How is this not a bargain, Bob? That is the question you're meant to answer before you can neg.

      • +1

yeah Bob, get back on the campaign trail.

      • The post was edited while I was posting. It initially suggested free books.

        • +1

That would have been an even bigger bargain then?

  • +10

…a few days ago I was looking for a copy and it was $65.00 plus $9.00 for postage, this is definitely a bargain for me, I would save $19.00.

    • +1

The book price has not dropped… so you are only saving the postage cost of $9.

      • The $55 price is for the "regional" Books.
Major City Books are still $65, but you're still saving postage!

    • +2

Caught by that magic "from" word…

    • Yes, but you get thousands, and they're generally quite decent.

    • Nope much better than the freebie coupons

  • -2

This should be in the forums really, as it is not a bargain. This is the regular price, and they can be picked up from any number of places (Cancer Council etc) Many schools use them as fundraising as they receive $15 per book from a $65 book.

The books are generally excellent, and can easily save you money. Buying one use of the travel insurance alone pays for the book with the savings made.

    • Still a bargain even if a minor saving.
Bet many readers didnt know bout the book

    • How is it not a bargain? The postage saving is the bargain. I wanted to buy one as a gift but was put off by the postage.

  • +1

Excellent - used these books in the past and they save me a pretty penny. To buy the book at a discounted rate is even better :)

  • +7

Still a good post and lot of silly ppl negging it.

Im always amused when ozbargainers get so excited over a buy 1 get 1 free kfc deal etc when these ent books are so chock full of these offers that 95% go unused.

Any saving off the cover price or postageis a bargain and deserves to be posted.

Hint - a lot of ppl swap coupons hey cant use on ozb forums or gumtree.

Ent books are the best $65 or so an ozbargainer can spend

At least where I am the value of restaurant offers in this book has declined sharply in recent years. When I started buying this book about seven years ago (here on the GC, many years before that in both Sydney and Melbourne) there were MANY BOGOF restaurant offers, however they are now rare and the majority of offers are a flat 25% off. AND many of the restaurants offering that discount have ridiculous starting prices. With BOGOF and BYO, the cost of a meal was effectively halved. You can do the math on 25% off….. I've found the group buying offers for restaurants a better alternative. Of course the EB is still good for junk food etc if that's what you're into.

    • +1

I find I'm more likely to buy a drink with 25% off. No drink with BOGOF.

Used a 1x 25% off gold card last Friday for 6 people and we cleared $35 off the total (no need to use two cards as our total was spot on the one-card limit).

    • +1

I've noticed more and more businesses seem to be dropping out of the book over the last few years. The latest book is missing a few of our favourite restaurants we had used vouchers for in the past as well as places like Nandos.

      • I used a voucher an Nandos. It was pretty evident they didn't want to honour it and served up something half the usual size the meal would be. Wasn't impressed, but it was "free" I guess.

        • +3

The trick is to use the premium vouchers and gold card deals at the front. You'll find the book pays for itself in a couple of (s)eatings. The stuff at the back is chicken scraps.

        • Yeah, for sure. One night we had a table of about 20 and were allowed to stack 3 gold cards together (half the table owned entertainment books). We got $120 off the table that night!

      • +1

nandos is not WORTH going to with regards to comparison for size and what you pay for. i'd rather go to a decent bistro / sit down italian proper dining along lygon or hardware lane in the city than to pay similar for two @ nandos and get birds that look like they were starved or imported from afghanistan during the war…. seriously horrid taste / expensive and no value/nutrition

sorry …. just my thoughts as i tried it previously without expectations and even that failed

  • free postage doesn't seem to apply when purchasing from existing accounts, only applies to new books i think

    • If you already have a book, the group you purchased from should be able to organise to get a different edition for you. I do that for my purchasers.

  • do apologise to post here. i have got 1 brand new greater melbourne entertainment book 2013 - 2014 UNUSED complete with the GOLD CARD. would love to sell it for $55 for local pick up in melbourne, if anyone interested. thank you…

    • interested in the melbourne book
      PM sent

  • Hi Sam, How do I get the $55 price? I am after the Sydney Book and its showing $65

    • Hi tron07 - the $55 price is only for 'smaller - or regional' books - the Sydney one is $65. But I do know the Sydney one is well worth while - I used it a few weekends ago when I was in Sydney.

      • $65 is not a bargain for me, I manage to get it for $55 last year. Found a $58 deal this year, but looking to better it.

        • Where did you get a $65 book for $58?

        • Friend's friend selling.

Hi Sam, what do I put for "child's name" and "child's class"?

    • Doesn't really matter what you put as this is posted as opposed to giving the book to a child - I did notice that one person put OZBARGAIN!

      Thanks for your support!

  • +2

HiSam, thanks for posting this :)

    • Thanks, kcy - much appreciated!

  • Can anyone confirm if dracula's on the gold coast is included in the latest book? If so, what is the offer?
Looking to purchase the book predominantly for this offer..

  • Tried to purchase but got:

Transaction Declined: Unable to connect to Gateway

  • Same,
Transaction Declined: Unable to connect to Gateway

  • Also had the same problem - Transaction Declined: Unable to connect to Gateway

    • Transaction Declined: Unable to connect to Gateway
  • Are m/any of the bargains in the book valid for cities other than Sydney?

  • Worked ok for me

    • Confirmed working again now.

I save so much money with this book. Here's how:

If you shop at Woolworths or Coles, you can buy gift cards at 5% off. So we buy $500 worth of each at a time for only $475 each and use them for all of our grocery shopping. The Wish ones (for Woolworths) can also be used at Caltex Woolworths petrol, Big W, DSE, Masters, Cellarmasters, BWS, Dan Murphy's and Thomas Dux.

Please also consider buying through my fundraising link. All funds raised go to The Cancer Council SA via Relay for Life Adelaide 2014

    https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/1687s18

  • There's three Sydney books?! Gah! Which one to get :(

  • Are the Wish gift cards still available in this years book @ 5% off? Any other "everyday" type discount offers in this year's book?

    • +1

Yes - Wish gift cards are still in there.

In the Brisbane book, there is a 25% voucher for the Courier-Mail home delivery. Works out to a $93 saving for a year.

You can search you local book on-line to check other deals for your area.

  • I just put an order through, how do I go about getting more books at the members price? DO I need to wait for the gold card to arrive?

    • I think you'll need to wait for your gold card so you can register first.
