You should mention that it's the Eneloop Tones 'ROUGE'. Basically just means it's the newest version of the Eneloops.

    • +1

These aren't the newest, the new ones say Panasonic where the old ones say eneloop and the new ones have eneloop written in small writing under Panasonic.

      http://news.mynavi.jp/articles/2013/03/04/eneloop_by_panason…

      http://budgetlightforum.com/node/7336

      • I wasn't aware that Panasonic had bought out Sanyo. RIP Sanyo.

        • You must have been sleeping for a while… (been discussed on OB a few times)
Panasonic acquired majority stake of Japanese company Sanyo Electric in 2009, mainly for the battery & solar panel technology. Sanyo branding was phased out last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanyo

Of course the Japanese company is not to be confused with consumer electronics sold here under that rebadged trademark.

        • So after a while there won't be any more Eneloop or will Panasonic keep the name?

        • See 2 posts up - Eneloop is getting less prominence on pack. It was a Sanyo trademark, bought by Panasonic.

  • How much is a decent recharging station for these?

  • +1

Last weekend deal of 8 for $11.99 (normal glitter pack) was much better but even at $21.49 it is quite a good deal.

    • I remember when these used to be $19.95

      • if everyone stop buying them…it will be 19.95 again
        :P

        • Unlikely at DS as few remaining stock were cleared at $12 & no longer a item stocked by DS. Discontinued Glitters were introduced as a promotional product long ago.

    • They have been discontinued according to dse staff member I spoke to when trying to get them

    • that's the 1500cycles model, good deal but discontinued stock

  • +1

I have been trying to understand if there is a difference between different Eneloops. I have found references to 1900m AH 1800 recharge cycles for the Glitter ones. and 2000m AH and improved cycle life and charge retention for the new ROUGE ones

there are also High capacity ones 2500m ah that are only good for 500 recharge cycles

    • Yes, the rouge are better than the glitter.

Almost twice as good (compared to last glitter deal)? Very unlikely. But you're unlikely to see that price again (see comments above), so if you need eneloops I would definitely grab these for ~$20.

But yes, glitters for $12 was the best deal by far!

    • The high capacity ones (2500mAh) are best if you need a lot of power for a short period of time. Like flash photography. If you are into Photography, you should consider the 2500mAh ones. If you need few batteries to power your kid's toys, may be these ones are good enough.

Where are the Eneloop AAA sales? :(

    • They had 40% off them when the glitter packs were going cheap a couple of weeks ago

    • There was a post for AAA's some months ago, but since I was ordering one of these at the same time… http://snipurl.com/27g58mo … I added some AAA's to my cart. A spreadsheet showed after shipping Amazon came out cheaper. Point being, if you need a charger, maybe check Amazon and compare prices. Combined shipping may bring the AAA's down to a cheaper price than buying here.

BTW. Some AA folks may be interested in these links I just stumbled on:

      http://snipurl.com/27g59ip
      http://snipurl.com/27g59qf

      • My apologies - just noticed they don't ship to Australia!?

  • Question: What would happen if someone chucked these into a normal battery recharger? (non- eneloop)
    Would it kill it?

    • No. It will charge.

Just be mindful that most 'simple' or 'basic' chargers tend to charge in pairs, and if each battery has a different charge level it could result in under/over-charge.

      • Also, most cheap battery chargers are timed…which also causes over/under charging.

    • +1

      Perfectly fine.
The Basic "Eneloop" Charger is no different to a basic Battery Charger.

    • I bought some AA eneloops years ago for salt & pepper grinders. I've only used their standard charger until recently and only charged when they were completely drained. Years later they are still kicking along just fine.

  • Has anyone compared these to the Aldi rechargeables? I always see them along the checkout aisle but assume that they aren't any good. I'm guessing the Aldi ones don't have the Low Self Discharge feature?

    • +2

The new Aldi ones DO have the LSD feature. I've been using them and am quite satisfied. Since I don't have eneloops, I can't compare though. Hard to complain when they're only $6.99 for a pack of 4.

      • Any ideas how long and what charge levels do they keep?

  • +1

How do these eneloop compare to Turnigy LSD batteries?

It seems that Maha c9000 charger is the best but costs $65approx delivered.

Is the Nitecore i4  ver2 charger good for LSD batteries?
I think i4 does charge in pairs but im not sure about undercharge/overcharge issues.

I am planning to get Li-ion 18650 batteries later on.

The nitecore i4 ver2 charges the following:
    1) Li-ion: 26650, 22650, 18650, 17670, 18490, 17500, 17335, 16340(RCR123), 14500, 10440
    2) Ni-MH / Ni-Cd: AA, AAA, C

    • +3

Turnigy batteries are very good quality and a genuine bargain. Their LSD properties (like most other brands) are no where near as good as Eneloops (or Powerex Imedion batteries - 2nd to Eneloops). Depending on the devices you intend to use them in, it might not be an issue for you.
For example, if you're going to put rechargeables in everything, you might want to put an Eneloop into a tv remote instead of a Turnigy. In a frequently used toy that flattens batteries in a day, a week, or even a few months, it may make no difference whatsoever.

The Nitecore charger, including the current version, is a good and versatile charger, but doesn't have Delta -V cutoff (subtle temperature-rise triggered full charge suspension). From memory, it's just normal voltage cutoff plus (probably) a timer backup. It is, still, a big step from a cheap timer-only job, but the charge rate is just high enough to make the lack of Delta -V a pity.

If you're going to go down the path of using lithiums, you need to know the pros and cons. I'm not going to go into detail in this thread, but if only from a safety point of view: 1. Buy 'protected' cells. 2. Avoid battery names that have the 'fire suffix (counterfeit fake-wrapped cells ubiquitous). 3. Buy the likes of Panasonic/Sanyo (or I suppose, the variety of decent brands that are based more-often-than-not on Pana cells. 4. Buy from Fasttech.com. Reputable, in my personal experience, and the best prices you'll find.

      • Thanks Tas. I have seen a few comments that Maha c9000 died soon after the warranty expired (making it a costly proposition to buy another c9000) even with 10% discount. Nitecore is ~$26 delivered from ebay.

        • +1

          Okay, deep breath…
I have a c9000 and can recommend. As far as I know, any earlier reliability issues have been addressed, which I understand is more than can be said for some LaCrosse charger issues. I think my Maha (fairly recently bought) has a three year warranty.

As far as basic battery-type versatility is concerned, there isn't anything that really compares to the Nightcore. Especially at the price, you may well be very happy with it. It's unsophisticated, but it's a quality charger.

The brutal reality of most powerbanks - of whatever stated capacity - and especially those sold on Ebay - is that even the pretty expensive ones hold a fraction of the stated juice. You'll be lucky if the one you linked has even close to half the 30,000 mAh stated.
I'm not in the market for a large powerbank at the moment, but if I was this is what I would buy. I'd buy this: www.buyincoins.com/item/19102.html It's a quality unit built by Coolook (excellent reviews on charge characteristics and low voltage ripple even at maximum output).
I'd team it with two sets of two Panasonic 3400mAh NCR18650B batteries from Fasttech.

For an all-up price close to what you're looking at, you'll have some genuine quality with known capacity in your hands. When the time comes (learn more about the reality of lithium battery lifespan here: www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110081 ), you can change the batteries.

        • Where are the reviews on the Coolook powerbank?
          http://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20USB%20battery%20box%204…

Will this unit be suited for charging a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 @ 2amps?
Output A uses Apple 2.1A coding.
          Output B is not coded.

        • +1

          I thought you'd disappeared…
Yes, review and lots of other interesting stuff can be had via the budgetlightforum site.
I didn't want you to be overwhelmed by alot of technical detail, given that you just seemed to be after a straightforward recommendation.

Yes, as long as you use a proper charge cable (that's one that has two data pins internally shorted) your galaxy tab will charge at full rate.
If you're are using a 'data only' cable - or one just too thin for the amperage, you'll notice pretty quickly.
I have a galaxy tab 7.7. The 2 amp charger it came with has a captive-cord output to the 30 pin plug. I know (because I have one as a backup) that the 2 amp Samsung charger for some other galaxy tabs has a standard full size usb output, with a usb to 30 pin cable supplied.
If that's what you have - use that in preference to anything else you may have kicking around in a draw.

        • I have a note 10.1 and Note N7105. I guess if I use the original Samsung cables supplied it should charge at 2amps. Thanks for your help in choosing what I should get. Cheers

  • What happens if I do a Click and Collect purchase on these today and only pick them up and pay tomorrow? Will I get charged the sale price tomorrow?

    • Considering today is the 15th and sale starts on the 16th, you wont be charged the sale price ;).

    • Looks like you'll have to be up at 12 tonight if you really want 'em ;)

  • +3

Damn I wish they had a sale on AAA.

  • Is it safe to assume Eneloops (both AA and AAA) will charge in the Duracell charger with the recent COTD deal?

    • I have an Energizer charger with the same question :)

    • +1

It is safe to assume that they will - in both.

    • Yes, It is safe!

I used a 30 minutes Duracell turbo charger for these batteries and they haven't died after 20 cycles.

Any Ni-MH charger will charge any Ni-MH batteries without problem.
Ignore those scared label on products.

    • +1

They don't still sell those, do they? Either way - yes.

For anybody else - as long as your not talking about a really old Nickel Cadmium-specific charger Eneloops will charge okay in anything, BUT a really cheap, high rate OR low charge-rate, timer cutoff charger will shorten their life substantially. NiMH batteries are only half as tolerant as NiCads of low or even trickle overcharging.

If you were wondering why very cheap-end rechargeable power tools and handheld vacs still come with NiCd instead of NiMH packs - that more than any manufacturing cost differential, is the reason.

  • +7

To everyone asking if their ABC Brand charger will charge these batteries- yes it will.

Will it do any favours to your lovely new batteries? No it wont.
Cheap chargers work on charging time… thats all. Basic chargers all work the same way.
So if a particular battery you have needs more or less than the charge time, then it'll suffer from over or under charge. This in turn will affect performance and lifecycle.

So yes, your cheap AA chargers will work perfectly fine with these batteries. But if you want the best performance from your new batteries, get a better charger that monitors each battery and gives it just the right amount of charge.

    Okey dokey? :)

    • Note to self: 'Use bold type'.
      Or not.

  • I remember getting 4 batteries plus the charger for less than that.

  • These are great batteries, I brought 2 packs of these few months ago when they were half price.

  • -3

lol I bought too many of the glitter packs last week so I took 2x8 packs back yesterday for $24 refund.

    • I would have loved a set. eBay next time?

  • Hi guys,

I am deliberating whether to buy these, or try the Aldi ones. :/

Can someone please confirm if the Aldi ones are really $6.99 for a pack of 4?

    Cheers

    • +1

Buy this. Although I haven't used Eneloop, but I use Sony Cycle Energy which are rumored to be OEM by Sanyo.
First of all, they are smaller in diameter and exactly the same as AA batteries, contrary to Aldi's which are slightly bigger. My wife has a Medela breast pump and only AA batteries and Sony Cycle Energy rechargables fit well in it.
Secondly, Aldi's batteries claim to to be LSD, but I found that they have a much higher self-discharge rate then Sony. I use Sony the same way as alkaline batteries and never had a problem with founding them flat after a couple of months.

So, in my opinion, buy Eneloop.

      • Thanks! Got a couple of packs of eneloops!

  • +1

    Past midnight. Still full price…

    Wahhh! Going to bed.

  • Just purchased a set. Even though the website shows full price, you can add to cart and it will show up as $21.49 with free delivery.

  • Cool, worked. The link seems to have changed to this one:

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobile-phone-accessories/eneloop…

    • Update: Turned out a "Click and Collect" order is a good idea in theory only. Ordered in the morning, all items got sold out during the day (George Street, SYD), nothing was put back . Thanks for nothing, Dick.

  • Hey, free home delivery on this item! Got 2 packs.

  • Plenty of stock in altona vic store

  • +1

Not sure why it hasn't been mentioned, but the 'UOMO' one is also half price if you prefer different colours.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobile-phone-accessories/eneloop…

  • George Street, Sydney stock @ 1pm today
    none of the Uomo left
about 7 left of the Rouge.

Am guessing they will re-stock later but weren't willing to re-stock the Uomo when I asked.

  • North Sydney DSE - No Rouge left, plenty of Uomo at $21.49. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Hey guys - is there a quality La Crosse, Maha or other charger with an LCD display that also charges 18650's as well as the Eneloops?

    • different charger is required as they are using different technologies.

Read online the difference between Ni-Mh and Li-Ion, eneloops and almost all rechargeable batteries use the Ni-Mh or Ni-Cd (older technology but similar to Ni-Mh.

  • Top Ryde DSE, no stock left. I arrived at 1PM and they only had 1 pack left which I grabbed. Staff said there had been a huge run on these batteries.

  • Do DSE have paypass machines yet?
Wondering if I can take advantage of the ol' ING 5% cashback…

    • no they dont. at least in sydney

    • I have used 'the ol' ING 5% cashback' by buying Woolies Gift Cards, & using them for purchases at DS stores, & there is provision to redeem online with the new system (but not directly at checkout).
(Last used in store end of June, so may still work)
