ClubTelco Unlimited Broadband

Good Day!
So I'm with iinet 200GB $59.95 + 29.95 phone line which was good for the past 2 years.
But now I want unlimited broadband and we still need the phone line. We are ok with no or 12 month contract.

After considering user feedback we decided NOT to go with

  1. TPG
$70 per month on 24 month contract is terrible (24x70=$1680, although it says $1790 min total cost)
    http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/home-phone-bundle/un…

  2. Dodo(very cheap and tempting)
$63 per month on 12 month contract
    https://connectto.dodo.com/wizard/#SQ

Only found good words on ClubTelco
http://www.clubtelco.com.au/broadband_compare_plans.html
They use Telstra network, no contract required although $50 a year membership.
So for my metro zone it is $40(adsl) + $30(phone line) + $4.1(membership) = $74 per month no contract

Please share your opinion on this. I went through http://whirlpool.net.au/ but hard to find something useful.

If anyone want to refer me http://www.clubtelco.com.au/friends/ Please PM me.

Thank you and All the Best

  • Has anyone tried calling iinet to check if they can match unlimited broadband?

    • +1

      iiNet don't do custom plans.

  • tpg's basic unlimited with home phone is pretty good value at $59.99. 6 or 18 month contract. not that i'd use their home phone service for making calls since the rates aren't very good compared to what you can get from voip services (neither are club telco's rates). tpg seem to be pushing bundles more and more nowadays.

    • Look at Total costs for TPG:
      6 month $60 = $360 + $100 sign up + $20 phone deposit = $480
      18 month $60 = $1080 + $80 sign up + $20 phone deposit = $1180

Clup Telco say 12 month $74 = $888 which is $444 for 6 month and that is for Telstra speeds and great User Support.
And if you add refer a friend $25 credit = $419 in total

      • the phone deposit is refundable i believe, so including it in the comparison is slightly misleading

for 12 months, tpg's cost is 12*60 + 100 = $820. for any period over 12 months you need to pay the $50 club telco membership fee again.

having said that, your experience (with any isp) will depend on the condition of the copper between your home and your local exchange. resold telstra services are not necessarily better. there are lots of congested exchanges. telstra simply provides backhaul from the exchange to your isp's network. your speeds after that are determined by your isp.

in any case, you need to estimate the duration you will probably want the service for and choose the plan that is best for you. also check whether you need to waive for csg rights for the isp you choose. if you require fax, alarm etc, check for compatibility with the phone service being provided.

        • $20 deposit is still $20 taken and it is not misleading to include it as you can not sign up and not to pay it.
Tpg does not have 12 month contract so you are actually misleading.

$74 a month for ClubTelco is including $50 membership. So next year it is still $74 a month for 12 month.

Please link me some negative feedback on CludTelco. Did you use them?

And condition of my copper is good.

        • Tpg does not have 12 month contract so you are actually misleading.

i was just giving a 12 month comparison as you mentioned it in your original post. once your minimum 6 month contract with tpg is finished you can continue on month-by-month for as long you as like at $60/month

$20 deposit is still $20 taken and it is not misleading to include it as you can not sign up and not to pay it.

fine. include it in the calculations if you like.

$74 a month for ClubTelco is including $50 membership. So next year it is still $74 a month for 12 month.

yes, but ongoing costs for tpg are $60/month

Please link me some negative feedback on CludTelco. Did you use them?

          i can't help you there

  • ClubTelco run on Dodo's network. It's unbelievable value if you are on their local network, at $25 per month (plus line rental).

I've had them for 5 months- and they're pretty good. Random cut outs have been occurring (mostly in the morning) but they're only once a week if that. My speeds max out at about 2.5mb/s (or at peak times 1.5mb/s).

  • I am a noob on this, currently with Optus which is a rip off. Anyone has any suggestion which internet provider I should go for? Really don't need unlimited around 50GB is more than enough for us.

    Here's my experience with ClubTelco.

Started with their ADSL because I get local rate of $25/m and no contract if it went pear shape. No issues.
Changed my landline to CT later to reduce multiple billers + 5% discount. No issues.
Moved location - was painful, Telstra had to check the streets. Had landline diverted to Mobile & used USB/wireless internet (SLOWWWW) - all fixed and all good again.
Have just ported mobile $20/m - painful, but 10% bundle discount is the reason and I was on $45 p/m with VF.
So long term, am expecting to make $100's in savings.

Only misconception I had was the annual $50 fee - I thought it was a oncer - so add $4.16 to any pricing.

Off topic: TIP. If porting mobile to CT - get them to EXPRESS POST the sim card.
Sent you a PM if you decide to join.

  • Pennytel do $29/mth unlimited. $57/mth w PSTN.
    http://goo.gl/EesBt

  • GoTalk was acquired. Telephone division changed name to ClubTelco. DoDo bought ClubTelco. M2 bought DoDo.

ClubTelco, good infrastructure (using Telstra) but poor customer service (in Phil).

    • I found the service great! Yes its over seas call centres but if you call them you always get somebody super fast!
Prob longest i've waited is 2mins! They help you, they are polite, and if you need tech help for modem settings and stuff they have a good database of knowlege (i've picked their brains)

      poor customer service

    • I thought Eftel bought Clubtelco?

I Pm'd the OP but should let everyone else know too.
If you go with Clubtelco, get a telstra basic homeline.
    $22.90 a month.
Clubtelco will ask you for $30
So unlimited internet plus homephone plus membership fee (which does give you membership to infinite rewards program)
    Monthly cost $67.06.

And add another $20 if your in the regional areas (country) like me! Best deal in the regional areas i found! Also best service and best speeds at my house!

    • Thank you for you reply!
Yes if you rarely make calls then telstra is the way to go
      http://www.telstra.com.au/home-phone/plans-rates/plans/homel…
$23 a month but rates are not cheap 30c a call + 45c connection fee where applies

12x$63=$756, $840-$42=$798(5%), $798-$756=$42 that is your savings to go with telstra phone over 12 month

      If u bundle with clubtelco
      http://www.clubtelco.com.au/phone_compare_plans.html
$30 a month rates are good 20c a call + u can get caps like 20 minutes for $2 to call to mobiles or 2 hours for $2 to call nationals.
And you get 5% off your bill which will almost neglect membership fee over 12 month($70x12=$840, 5%=$42)

      • Sorry, should have mentioned, I dont use my telstra line to make calls..well other than 1800 calls!

I just use my Live Connected plan on my mobile to make calls.
        $15= $700 + 1.5GB + free sms & mms + free LC to LC.

  • Thank you guys for all your referrals!
I will sign up next week.

    All the Best!

  • So whats so good about this deal over iinet etc im new to oz and staying in perth baldivis im looking to get internet unlimited if possible and phone line so you saying get this and phone line with telstra of package from telco why the costs probably come to same amounts as iinet whats so good or not so good with these

    • Well iinet is good when you do not need unlimited broadband.

If you want unlimited then I find that Cludtelco is the best option for me at the moment.
Call them and check your area because the prices depend on where you are.

  • So this works out to be c$63/mth + membership vs Pennytel $57/mth + no membership.

    What's the benefit with ClubTelco?

      read then comment please

I am not looking for the cheapest with worst quality service/speeds. Bargain is where u pay and happy to use it and not when you waste money.

Lots of Ozbargainers use Clubtelco may be that is a good enough reason.

Regarding CT customer service, they are prompt at answering the phone, and yes the call centre is Asian. They have a 13 number and you can request they call you back to save your phone bill. They often put you on hold for a few minutes while they consult the supervisor or read through your account notes log. You have to remember CT dont actually flick any switches but make requests by email to (Telstra) for landline issues, or (Optus) for mobile issues, Or (Dodo?) for internet etc. and they will try to resolve any issue. And considering the are the meat in the sandwich, they are actually polite - perhaps unlike my tone to them when I've rung on occassion. I even asked for a complaint file number once as I wanted to seek Tele Ombud help to speed things up.

I hope CT are around for the long term so I can contine with the savings I'm finally acheiving and I'd like to see them offer naked DSL so I could ditch my landline altogether.
MyNetPhone do naked, but for around the same price as CT with a landline - always handy in an emeregncy if the power goes out.
I'm always happy to refer them to friends as I'd like to see them get stronger for my benefit, unlike VF who have lost hundreds of thousands of customers - including me.

    CT-Not perfect, but not pathetic.

  • TPG setup fee $500!

I was about to sign up to TPG when I noticed this in the fine print….

"Important: Above Home Phone Line Rental Monthly & Setup pricing is discounted (aw sure, my edit) based on new customers agreeing to waive the Customer Service Guarantee (CSG). Any customer who does not agree to waive the CSG will be charged an additional $15 per month for TPG Home Phone Line Rental and a setup fee of $500."
    1. Why would anyone willing waive the CSG?
    2. Can they do that?

  • Hello everyone,

I'm moving into a house (have never looked into any of this broadband before). The house is tenanted at the moment. It's an old house.

I had a conversation with Club Teco, and just have a lot of (silly) questions about connecting with them.
I hope I can get some help here.

First : It will totally cost me
    a) $50/year membership fee
    b) $40/month unlimited ADSL+ (I'm in metro)
    c) $30/month landline/home phone fee - does this include unlimited standard local calls?
d-1) $59 to activate the landline
    OR
d-2) $299 to install the landline (the operator told me it's only needed if it's a new built house)
    e) $60 + $14 postage for the router? (I think it's a modem)
    f) To create wireless access around the house, I need to buy a wireless router ?

So… after getting all the above done, basically I can use wireless internet anywhere in my house?

    Some other questions :
As the house tenanted at the moment, ff the current tenants already have their ISP,
is it possible to keep their plan but just transfer to my name?

    Thank you very much.

    • Hey!
Looks like this is new for you.
By "tenanted" do you mean you will replace them or live together(renting a room)?
If you replace people that lived there before you (they will cancel the phone line contract = disconnection) so you will need to reconnect the phone line for $59. It is possible to switch without paying that fee if you do it before they move out (club telco needs a working phone line to switch you over) and then they can disconnect from their previous ISP. Although you need to check when is their due date, it would be a waste of money to pay for a month of the internet and then disconnect earlier.
In simple terms WiFi/Wireless connection in you house can be provided by a wifi router. I would recommend to get an all in one device = wifi router with built in modem. To get wifi in all rooms(how many storeys?) you need a decent router and if the walls and doors are too thick you will lose signal further away from it. In a case of an old brick thick walls house you can get Ethernet over power lines solution.
And do not forget you need to put your wifi router next to phone jack plus router needs a power point.
      Anyway:
      a) it is less than $5 a month (over 12 month) extra on your bill so its close to nothing
      b) yes
      c) yes and no (http://www.clubtelco.com.au/phone_compare_plans.html where did you see unlimited?)
      d-1) maybe
      d-2) no
      e) get a good device that you can use again and again like http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…
      f) need more info from you

You can transfer but which ISP it is?

  • Hello Smerch..

Yeah.. definitely, I am new (to everything)..
Thank you very much for answering my questions in detail also for the original post.
I wouldn't know this $40 plan if you didn't post in the first place.

I will take the whole house by myself on the next day after they move out.
It's a double brick house, one storey, normal size of 110 m^2 living area.
Unfortunately I can not provide more detail (eg: phone jack plus, power point…..) as I only saw that house twice.

I will see if I can contact the current tenant and gather more detail.

    Thank you very much
