  • What makes this any better than reid cycles or something similar?

    • They're 'designer' bicycles…

I thought all bicycles are at some stage "designed"…

Well they are at least routing the rear brake cable correctly for this type of frame, something Reid doesn't do.

      • What's the difference between the routing? The Reid ones going up via the seat tube does have sharper radii and resulting in additional friction etc???

        • Yep, exactly. The sharper turns introduce friction which hinder the ability of the brake to release one you let go of the lever. So with the way Reid set theirs up you may have issues of the rear brake always rubbing to some extent which makes peddling a lot harder.

I have been looking at bikes lately (more on Gumtree than elsewhere).

Its seems that there are a growing number of these non-traditional brands. Reid and Cell are probably the better known ones, Samson (Vic based), another Brisbane based mob that I can't remember the name of, and then there are the completely brandless ones such as

Designer?? These have no design cred. They are like any other "chinese style bike" that are mass produced out of the many sweat shops. Would prefer a Euro style retro as a cruiser. I like some of the Retro bikes out there but these are Retro Uncool..
Seriously you would be better off heading into your local bike shop and so you can compare all brands, styles and be fitted up properly.

It appears only the girls' bicycles are reduced, that is discrimination !!!

Girls who know anything about bikes don't buy step-through frames.
And certainly not "hi-ten steel" frames.

  • They remind me of Fixies.
