    I have this tent.

Has to be one of the easiest I have ever had to setup, no poles to shove thru holes anymore! Ingenious spider lock system so epic, might increase its size a bit packed away but meh.

For this price I wouldn't touch anything else.

    • U bought it at full price? $299???

      • +11

Who do you think I am?

I paid $79 + Rays discount card holder about 6 months back :D

So it works like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri6NfYQbHP0 from 1:10

      • +2

Yeh tahts the spider thing I was talking about, its crazy good (hopefully it lasts). It's a bit wierd at first all legs floppping everywhere but once you lock that mechanism in place its done…. Then you just raise and lock in each corner strut (press button locking mechanism) and your good to go. Few pegs around to stretch the bottom canvas.

That design alone makes it worth this price if not more.

    • Thanks for the review.

    • does the main entrance and windows have fly screen?

      • +2

Not sure if there are any tents without the things you are asking…

  • Can you see the future earth?

Instant Escape Tent does make me wonder how this deal is being pitched.

    • I had to get out of one pretty quickly after it was set on fire at school camp. Wasn't instant escape but it was pretty darn close.

  • +7

This deal has made me pitch a tent in more ways than one, I can assure you.

  • Lol. You've passed the ultimate test for an Ozbargainer it seems.

  • Shame you can't get a fly for it…. waterproof this would not be!

    • I agree - otherwise I would have bought one

    • Ive been with it in rain, the outside layer is def waterproof… Its a mesh cube surrounded by normal tent outside.

I guess it wouldnt survive terential rain but rain overnight in winter was fine…. It's pretty cold tho as its fairly airy.

  • Can anyone comment on how the tent fairs in rain or other harsh weather? (like the crazy amount of rain we got recently)

    • +3

      wet

    • Would be fine if you pitch it under a carport. Most tents don't fare well in torrential rain or strong wind.

      • +2

Damn yeah, even the picture doesnt look like it comes with some sort of tarp to cover it from rain.. but at RRP299 who the hell buys a tent that can't even handle a bit of rain.

        • not anyone on ozbargain of course

      • I have one of those flick-out tents (so you pull it out of the bag & throw it & it's erect) … worked great on our camping trip, except that it kept on flying away, so i had to get someone else to hold it & put my 15kg tool kit insite to keep it there while i pegged it in … barely heard the wind all night, beyond waterproof … i think it was an anaconda tent (clearance down from 300$ to 70$ about 12 months back)

  • do you guys recommend this or one of the pop up tents for 2 people with no camping experience?

  • Thanks OP!
I've been interested in buying a tent and this seems great!
And I've heard it requires no more of that pole crap into the sleeves? :D

Curious though, do you still need to peg it down on the sides? xD
Even if I have heavy items inside at the corners?

    • children can still blow away whether in the corners or the middle.

    wtf its full price….

    • +1

      cheapskateasian
      wtf its full price

      Oh dear …

  • -1

LMAO!!! the cheapness only saw the price and not the sale date! haha

    • -2

haha that's how desperate I was to get a bargain! lol

      • sounds like you might be able to fit 2 people in a one person tent cheapo, if you get my drift.

  • calender notification in my phone! cheers op

  • Just ordered the other one, the tourer which is $149.00

    :D

  • As long as it doesn't rain it will be ok, but it doesn't look very waterproof to me.

You get what you pay for i guess.

    • Thats what a backup tarp is for :)

    • +1

You could always buy a can of waterproofing spray from the shoe store (around $9 from memory)if you have concerns.

For an 'instant' 4 person tent this is a fantastic price.

  • Waterproof? It looks like any other tent to me; a thin mesh inner with a waterproof outer flysheet, as good as any other general use tent in the rain I reckon.

  • +1

Discount already working. put it into cart and showing up as 79

  • Just bought it online for $79.

  • Bought online for $79 + about $13 freight (no Rays outdoor close to me unfortunately!).

    • +1

It's quoting me $40 freight :( I like the sound of $13 more.

Edit: I persevered and my prayers were answered when magically Ray started offering $5.49 freight! Damn that's cheap freight…

      • Do you mind to tell how did that happened?

        • Not sure… I tried again and the only option is $40. shrug

        • I think that would kill this deal…

      • Me too. $40 when I tried yesterday, $5.49 today. Don't know why.

  • This deal almost makes me want to go camping

    • +2

Three detergent barrels, six pieces of dressed pine and this tent and its instant houseboat. Pity I cant persuade the wife to live rent free on the Brisbane river.

  • ordered online, with pickup awesome!!! time to go brokeback mountain camping now

  • Saw this in the catalogue yesterday, went and checked them out and for $79 this is a great deal, but I ended up with the Wanderer Tourer 5 (Listed as Tourer 4 on website) for $150 down from $450. Still a bloody bargain and seems to be a lot better designed tent than the Escape. Will see a lot of use so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

  • I called BCF to see if they would price match and they agreed. Picked up one today using the gift vouchers from the Great Northern beer promo this year. $299 tent for $19 out of pocket … sweet deal.

  • Rays all sold out around me, they told me to go to bcf..bcf happily price matched it when i showed them catalogue. Thanks earth!

  • Just curious if anyone received their tent purchased online? My order is still processing…

    • I ordered quite early (and I live close to the store) and so I received mine the next day. My friend ordered on the same day (I think) and received his a couple of days after me.

If you ordered late, they may have sold out or perhaps those jackets might be clogging the system (my jacket order is still processing… i.e. no cancellation/refund yet).
