so i guess if i have different prescription in each of my eyes like alot of people (id only be getting one eye free).

    • Correct

    • +3

      Hi Chilvalry,
That's correct - It would be like "half price" or 50% off, and you only pay for shipping.
It's a low risk way of giving Specsavers a go, especially if you're used to buying contact lenses instore and potentially at higher prices.

Couldn't you make them $10 with free shipping so we can claim from health funds? :)

    • Hi cyssero - see my response below regarding Health Funds. All the best. Jack Hawks

      • Thanks Jack. I'm currently quite happy with my Umere dailies but I wouldn't mind an upgrade if there is something more comfortable out there. Of course that is very subjective, but are there any general recommendations?

I might move to monthlies as when I trialled a pair from my local SS (thanks to a very, very good optician) I found they were the most comfortable.

        • Here's my 2 cents worth. I believe the difference between Monthlies and Dailies is a)cost and b)convenience. You will save more with Monthlies, but the time required to ensure the contact lenses are kept in tip top shape with solution/daily sanitation of said lenses; Some people's view is that the cost savings are not worth the trade off for the daily care of the lenses. So it's down to personal preference and definitely down to comfort. I'd speak with your local Specsavers optometrist - seems the best source of advice, noting your preference above for convenience/price trade off.

          All the best
          Jack Hawks

        • Thanks for the comments. I think given how time poor I am and how precious eyes are, dailies will suit me as I don't want the concern of keeping them perfectly clean. I only use dailies about once a week so the cost benefit isn't there either.

I bought 4 packs of Umere dailies in 2011 and still have unopened boxes, but I might buy 4 and stock up on this great deal.

          Cheers

          try silicone hydrogels
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27669#comment-282459

        • Thanks for pointing me to that thread - hugely useful. I've trialled silicone hydragels (amongst a few others) and although optomotrist was hopeful they would be comfortable, the monthlies (name I can't recall) and Umere dailies are the best I found. Maybe I'll stick with them and use them with drops as I do now.

  • Hmmm, kind of annoying that it's only for one box, my prescription is different for both eyes. So buy one box, get one free, plus expensive shipping.

FYI - if not for this deal, OPSM is actually cheaper once you include postage.

EDIT: cheaper for my lenses, I haven't checked others.

What's next? Free iPhone but pay $799 shipping???!

    • +5

i remember that used to happen on ebay before they put FVF & restriction on how much you can charge for shipping.

99c buy now for an item and $250 shipping

It used to be a Joke

I would rather pay for the contacts and have free shipping for health funds.

  • I have astigmatism what should I get?

    • Order toric lenses, thats for astigmatism.

    • Check out the "Toric" sections. I use "1 day acuvue moist for astigmatism".

    • Hi hctan - you must ensure you have a prescription for contact lenses. It is different from your glasses prescription. Speak to an optometrist if you are unsure. All the best Jack Hawks

    Hi All,

For the Health Fund queries - can you can actually use the code as part of a standard order and still claim from your Health Fund. An example: If you buy 4 boxes of daily contacts. You can use the code: WELCOME and receive one of the boxes free. We're pretty fair game at Specsavers, as if you spend $99 or more, you'll automatically qualify for FREE SHIPPING within Australia.

    All the best

A better business plan would be to offer two options for customers:
      1) $31 box of contacts plus $10 shipping
      2) $41 box of contacts with free shipping

This way you have best of both worlds and increase number of customers.
The logic behind this is because health funds do not pay shipping when doing refunds.
But if the cost of shipping was included as part of the line item, then shipping becomes free and most people would get 100% back from their funds.

You would win so many more customers such as myself by doing offering this method.
I did not take this offer and will continue to purchase from another supplier who is able to offer me option 2.

    • Erm… I just tried checking out using the code "WELCOME" . Only to find out that using the code will cancels out the free shipping over $99 >__< sigh…

I don't need contacts but I suddenly want them.

  • Hi REP,
Is this a limited stock or limited time special ?
I am at work atm and wont be able to look at my prescription untill I get home around 6pm tonight…..

    • Hi geek7899 - this offer is on all this week. So you'll be alright tonight. All the best. Jack Hawks.

  • Hi Rep,

Do you have any of those funny coloured non prescription lenses? Could come in handy for Hallowe'en!

    Cheers

    • +4

Hi Gerbud - I know - unfortunately not. I have heard some hear'say that you want to be careful with coloured contacts. You don't want to skimp on quality - so I would go to a reputable source and not a counter in the middle of your local Westfield or shopping centre… just some advice.
      All the best. Jack Hawks

  • Does anyone know if the Avaira from CooperVision are ok for continuous wear

  • Hi Rep,

Does AHM's $200 benefit on contact lens cover the purchase from your website? How about shipping?

    • Hi aboutconfig - see my responses above about Health Funds. You'll simply need to order 2 boxes or more to have a claimable amount. However - big disclaimer here - you'll need to contact AHM first before ordering to ensure they cover contact lenses and find out the manner they cover contact lenses - they may have a sublimit (meaning a max amount) on the claimable amount for contact lenses. Hope that helps.
      All the best Jack Hawks

      • Just to complete the answer - it will be a manual claim with the Health Fund - but also again - shipping may be something they have to answer for you.
        All the best

        • +1

they do cover contact lens and the limit is $200

  • thanks!

  • @Jack Hawks: can you use the code multiple times per account?

    • +8

Hi Blahoz - we're asking people to be respectful. We personally believe the offer is about getting people to try us at low risk. When you buy contact lenses online with Specsavers, you can then access FREE instore contact lens aftercare, for which other optometrists will charge. We truly believe we are offering a great deal for contact lens wearers. A bit like the best of both worlds - online pricing and instore aftercare at one of our 260 store locations around Australia. Therefore have left this offer open. My big "BUT" in this answer is that if it is abused by the few - then we won't be able to do it again. People are generally quite honest - and can see that we are allowing access at low risk to give us a go.
Take that answer as you will - and if you know other contact lens wearers, make sure you pass on the code.

      All the best OzBargainers.

Don't Specsavers usually have contacts in the store? I've seen them there before so why can't I just drop by and pick it up?

  • Hey Rep,

Do you happen to have http://shop.specsavers.com.au/contact-lenses/monthly-disposa… but with diameter in 13.8?

    • Hi StevenC96 - haven't got a quick answer for you. Checked the link and appears that is the diameter we sell online. My best suggestion - a quick phone call you to your local Specsavers store. Staff are incredibly helpful. They may even suggest you pop in. I know it's not what you wanted to hear - but store staff will generally be able to help. All the best. Jack Hawks

    • Personally I have tried and used both with no issue.

Obviously if 13.8 is required then stick with them.

I recently started buying from Specsavers online… Prices are better than OPSM but be warned, don't leave your orders till the last minute… Their shipping is very slow.

    • Hi a1ienz - watch this space. But agree - don't leave ordering till last minute. Depending on where you are in Australia. I can confirm it is something we are aware of and working very hard on improving.

So when will SS start taking PayPal ?

        • Hi Elijah - that's good feedback. It's not currently on the cards. If the demand grows for it - we will have to take a serious look at it. All the best. Jack Hawks

  • @jackhawks would it be okay to place two orders on one account as i've got two very prescriptions?

    • Hi mparf - see my response above to @blahoz. Hopefully you'll get the gist. All the best Jack

  • WorldPay (the actual payment system) seems to have rejected my card? ('Unfortunately our payment provider has refused a transaction from your chosen account') - Anyone else have this problem?

  • It seems to default to giving you the cheapest box free.

Tried ordering 4 dailies for my right and 4 for my left (astigmatism).

Gave me cheaper one free, yet when I remove the right eye - I get the stigamtism free.

Looks like it works better to order separately

  • Both of my eyes have the same prescription. :successkid: thanks rep!

  • @jackhawks is there a reason SS don't stock "90 packs" of contact lenses?

    • Hi Baggyred. I believe it is to do with Shipping and the size of the shipping carton… but don't quote me on that. You'll find that our prices are generally very competitive with anyone offering bulk discounts.
      All the best. Jack Hawks

  • BOOM! $10 for 3 months supply of contacts. Gotta be happy with that!

Love the fact that my eyes are deteriorating at the same rate. :p haha

    Thanks Jack and SpecSavers.

  • Dupe..

  • Thanks! Cheaper contacts are always welcomed

  • Thanks Jack. Just ordered a box. Paid $100 to another retailer for 3 months supply last weekend. Now i know where I will be going to buy my contacts in 3 months.

  • Hi,

are the Acuvue Oasys from Johnson & Johnson the ones where you 'can' sleep in them if you forget to take them out? I used to wear contacts where it was okay.

    Cheers

    • Hi florencemahcine - the best advice I can give is to call one of our stores for some advice. All the best Jack Hawks

    • yes, they are overnight/continuous wear - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27669#comment-282459

    • Ask an optometrist. I wouldn't risk damaging my eyes based on info from an ozbargain post.

  • -4

For those new to contact lenses, you need to be careful.

You can easily injure your eye if you are not shown how to insert them properly. I tried them once & it was infuriating - maybe it was just me, but i think i ended up scratching my eye.

Also, at least in my case, i wanted them for reading, but it was a no go because you will not get the clarity of glasses (the crap between your eyeball & the contact lens warps things up a bit). Optometrist didn't explain this to me otherwise i wouldn't have bothered.

The rep can clarify if i'm off-ball.

Top quote from a medico i know: "Eyes are not regenerative".

    • ive been wearing contact lenses for 4 years

Have never had a problem with them

but it was a no go because you will not get the clarity of glasses (the crap between your eyeball & the contact lens warps things up a bit).

Not true . They are as clear as glasses and if you look after your lenses and eyes properly, you wont have a problem.

      • indeed, due to being closer to eyes than glasses, contacts can actually give better clarity :)

but true, you should be taught to use them properly before being given a prescription

I'm just relating what the Optometrist told me.
If you're already using Contacts & it's working for you - great.
My message above was for those new to them.

Just because it works for some, doesn't mean it works for everyone.
        Pretty simple concept really…

      • I'm told some people have trouble converging their eyes with contacts but it is easier with glasses. Varies from person to person. More information about it at your optometrist.

  • +2

Free box of astigmatism lenses is a great deal, purchased with a box of regular lenses for my other eye, still a decent deal. However to purchase from you guys again, without the free box deal, you'd need to price match quicklens.. $25.50 vs $31 for Acuvue Oasys, and $41 vs $49 for Oasys Astigmatism, so over a few boxes that would add up. I don't care about after sales care i'm afraid, never need it.

    • IIRC they had a sale on not long ago where Acuvue Oasys was about $24.99 a box - it's one of those things where you'd have to watch their website closely to see what deals they have on.

  • I'm an 8.4 and -3.00 and -2.25 in the Acuvue Oaysis. The 1 Day Acuvue Moist seem to have different sizing, any idea what I need? These might be handy for camping or nights out when I'm too drunk to carefully take out my lenses and put them back in their case.

Hi frostee - huge WARNING. Please speak with your local Specsavers optometrist for some clinical advice. I would be weary of receiving advice online for this type of matter. You only get the two eyes, ever. The matter could be sorted within a short visit to the store to explain you like the convenience of dailies as a throw away lens. The store will be able to do a FREE Trial on the lens that they believe will suit you. I know you'd rather a quick answer - but hope this helps.

      All the best Jack Hawks

Thanks for the tips. By the way your name sounds badass, are you a treasure hunter and/or an adventurer?

  • Jack: do you know when exactly this deal ends?

I want to buy a different material contact lens. I hope I'll have enough time to do the consults and trials before the deal expires.

Is it possible to get a prescription after one consult if I am currently wearing a similar lens from the same brand?

  • Hi Jack Hawk,

Could you please change your setting to allow private message.
I am having problem with the payment because of my Kaspersky browser. After put my cc details I got error page and couldn't continue.

    Cheers

  • What a great deal. I can't believe I've been buying from OPSM. The exact prescription lense cost me $126 for 3 months at OPSM.
At specsavers it's $62 + $10 Shipping (and I get $31 off now!). WOW! $41. Now if only officeworks sold contact lenses :D
    (Haha I sound like a paid-testimonial)

  • This deal is good, but I believe you used to have 6 months supply of oasis acuvue for $99 (I think it was free shipping too). Will that deal be back when this one is over?

  • +1

    Jack,

Can you please confirm whether these are grey imports?

I've been told that Specsavers bypass Australian law by importing lenses per patient instead of in large supply.

    • I was told by the opticians at Specsavers in store that those that you order online from specsavers come from the UK. If you buy in store, they are from the local supplier.

That's why the ones in store are more expensive by at least $10 per box and those online are cheaper. But they do take 7-10 days to arrive. However, I am not totally sure if the online orders do come from the UK. As the box that it arrives in has an AUSPOST stamp from Port Melbourne.

  • -4

wont deliver to a po box? oh well guess ill continue to use netoptical online for their exceptional service and costco bricks and mortar as required.

thanks for sharing the offer, it did initially appeal.

Can someone tell Jack Hawks his name is already in his profile, he doesn't need to sign off on every. single. post.

    • No. Let's just keep it between you. and. me.

      All the best, FreckleNuts.

  • Hi Jack Hawks,

Not a bad deal, but as other ozBrs have said, should've considered $10 for a box with free shipping so that we could get our healthcare rebates.

Seems you dont have PM on.
Can you tell me how to find out when Specsavers is having extra special discounts for private health fund members specifically for frames and lenses (on top of the usual 25% off)?

  • Hi Jack,

Do I have to have a prescription from Specsavers to get these contact lenses or I can use my prescription from other optometrist. Do I have to provide a copy or something?

Or can I just key in the prescription into the online order form and that would be sufficient?

    Shaz

    • +1

I didn't have to supply a copy of the prescription.

Just received notification today that my contact lenses have been sent.
