I think you mean this one.

And I'm impressed at the quality of that video if nothing else. The watch looks a little difficult to use and the GPS sync seemed quick, too quick. Still, its a great tool if you don't have one and there is always the refund policy of Aldi.

    • Thanks! Yes, I meant that one.

    • Great video by that guy. Well indexed too.

      • Good video, but it demonstrates the complicated option usage. He didn't show that these could be set via a computer, so I guess that you cannot use a PC but have to do it on the watch. A bit painful.

OTOH there are lots of features to fiddle with.

  • For that feature set, it's a really good price with 2 year warranty. I've bought Garmin equivalents for 3 times as much.

  • I recently got a Suunto M2 for around $115 Delivered from Qld or so which is pretty neat and not much more

that's kinda missing the biggest feature of this watch though - the GPS.

    • what's the website? Better check a suunto out than an ALDI one

      • the Suunto M2 is only a heart rate monitor. This is a GPS watch.

  • GPS Watch

Does it do turn by turn ?

    • Yes

Thanks OP! Looks like I'll be doing Aldi runs on yet another Saturday morning.

Pretty impressive gadget for $99…But do I need one? hmmm…

  • How would this go tracking laps swimming?

    • Not well. It's not waterproof. Easier just to count yourself unless a marathon swimmer.

      • It says 30m water resistant. Does this make it ok for pool swimming?

        • +1

          I wouldn't risk it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark
"For example, a watch marked 30 metres water resistant cannot be expected to withstand activity for longer time periods in a swimming pool, let alone continue to function at 30 metres under water. This is because the test is conducted only once using static pressure on a sample of newly-manufactured watches."

Wondering if the HRM data can be exported or downloaded to a .hrm or .xml file?

Seems the same as what runtastic sell:
    http://download.runtastic.com/products/rungps/RUNGPS1_manual…

  • Question for someone that owns a HRM…Is a HRM worth buying? I commute to work on a bike to exercise/lose weight… Yes/No?

Thinking of getting it, but its going to end up in my garage like some of my ozbargain stuffs…don't need it but buy it because it a bargain :)

Not really needed i dont think. I got this feature when i got a edge 500 with HRM and frankly its the statistic i least look at. You know when your heart is rate is high heh. Interval trainers (hiit) training with it is i suppose useful, but why would you be looking at your watch while doing hiit.

Should mention its good for not overtraining your heart rate for your age, but your doing well if you manage to doing that on a commute:)

Also anyway getting a cycle comp for you would be better, to ensure your keeping a high cadence, track your progress etc.

For regular commuting, I'd say not.

I got my current HRM when I decided to do 250km Around the Bay in a Day without any training (other than commuting and infrequent recreational rides). I knew some of the theory (and my HR zones) from having another HRM years ago.

So, I set my new HRM to beep if I went over 75% of my max heart rate - the theory being that I should be able to ride pretty much indefinitely if I made sure I stayed below that value. It was useful - it told me I needed to back off a few times, and I made the distance with enough fuel left in the tank to ride home afterwards - about double the furthest distance I'd ridden prior to the event.

Now I'm racing occasionally, and it's also good there. I have a beeper set at my anaerobic threshold, 85% MHR, and I know that's my grenade point - if I stay over that HR for too long, I'll blow up.

So, it's a useful tool to set reminders when you're needing to be reminded to take it easy. Unless you're pushing 100% on your commutes… it's probably overkill.

  • No stock on display but plenty at the checkouts, same with kettle bells

    • I think it depends on the store/space. I wasn't interested in getting this (although it's a v.good price compared to equivalent ones) but I did see them on the shop floor with the other sports gear.

  • Bought one. GPS function is fantastic.

Heart rate monitor - doesn't work at all. Possibly flat battery in the strap. Now I need to find another CR3032 to test it out.

(edit - fixed. I had to 'pair' them. All good now)

  • Very happy with mine.

  • I know this is old but they are still in stock and am looking to pick one up. My question is I will be using this for hiking and mountain biking in particular. For the people who have bought it. Does ti display Lat and Long so I can find my position on a map?
