HTC One X (Tegra 3 Quad Core - 32 GB) - $379 In-Store at Dick Smith (Limited Stock)

310

I saw this over the weekend at Dick Smith Carousel in WA and thought I'd post it. It's a pretty good phone with a Tegra 3 chipset from a good manufacturer, and cheaper than grey imports. Some people may prefer this over a Samsung Galaxy 3 (I need to be careful with my wording - just been flamed to a crisp for anti-SG3 remarks)

Stock is limited, but because I actually physically saw one I thought I'd post it.
Stock levels on website may be inaccurate, having both false positives and false negatives.

It is the cheapest on Staticice. The Tegra 3 chipset is the same as that of the Nexus 7 tablets.

I've had it since launch date

great phone, still responsive, plays every game in the market (latest HD games are a bit slower but nothing unplayable)

For $379 that's a really good price… if you've got the money go for the HTC one

  • +2

awesome price, still one of the most popular model in the market. buy this rather than s3 lol. do not touch the cheap ebay HK repacked stock, they are not genuine. ROM reckon ViperX from xda

    OP.

HTC One X (Tegra 3 Quad Core - 16 GB)

Me thinks its 32GB, might want to fix that.

    • Memory 32GB

Also Carousel showing out of stock online so either gone or stock levels incorrect on their website yet again? Might be worth checking in-store rather than taking online stock levels as gospel (for those that are wanting to buy this).

Thanks - I updated the title and description.
I actually could have sworn DS Carousel had it ticketed as $375. This was Saturday, so possibly they sold out.

    Thanks op, awesome price.

why is HTC stinging on the batt :|

    will consider this for mum

HTC One XL (Locked to Telstra) with 32GB Storage, LTE was $355 on Telstra Prepaid a week or so back.
Currently its $399, still better to go with the XL at $20 extra. Unlock code for $4~$5 on ebay.

but xl is dual core tho 4g, so an option then.

      • +1

XL is Snapdragon S4 Dual Core (A15 based) vs Quad Core (A9) based for Tegra 3.
XL is faster in most real world scenarios.

      • +1

a snapdragon dual core that better than the tegra quad core

        • +1

well, cpu score is still the quad core win, but real time use, no diff for me. used both while ago, still own the one x+. quad core helps in multi-task in theory. just another option here, all good phones for detail players

        • The One XL has better battery performance.

The S4 Pro dual SoC is still one of few true SoCs with integrated LTE radio. Even the newer phones out now (ie One, S4 and Xperia Z so not have integrated LTE - they have a seperate radio chip on the SoC).

If there was a choice between X and XL. XL would be the clear option however if you want to bring X+ in well then 3G/4G becomes important :)

        • -1

S4 4G Version (I9505) has integrated LTE Radio. There is no separate baseband chip. Both the Application Processor and Baseband Radio chip is present in Snapdragon 600.
Same with HTC One and Xperia Z as well.

Only S4 Intl version (I9500) has separate Exynos AP Chip + Qualcomm Radio/Baseband chip

        • +1

          Incorrect.

The Snapdragon 600 doesn't have integrated LTE radio:
          http://www.qualcomm.com.au/products/snapdragon
          'No modem'

Nor does the S4 Pro on the Xperia Z which uses an APQ8064+MDM9215M as per their white paper: http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/c6602/whitepaper…,

Also explained here by Qualcomm: http://www.qualcomm.com/sites/default/files/common/products-… - ''No modem''

Both points have been covered off by our friends on Whirlpool.

        • Oops need to go back to the specs again. I always thought Snappy 600/800 had integrated LTE !

        • Yeah the Snapdragon is faster for stuff that cant take advantage of all 4 cores and is better on battery consumption at the same time. The XL is a much better option IMO…

This is a decent Android phone. Recently got it for my wife through Vaya ($350 outright for Vaya members but locked to Optus network). Face recognition to unlock the phone is a neat feature

    its sold out everywhere

    • +6

      its sold out everywhere

That's not true. You are only concerned with a certain scale, which is your localised area. Making claims that it's sold out everywhere is a blatant lie and misleading to other bargain hunters. Either be more specific or withold your opinion ;)

    Nexus 4 > HTC One X anyday

  • Should I consider this over the Galaxy S3? Have been looking for a phone to buy my other half, either will be a big improvement over what she has now. We've developed a soft spot for Samsung over the years but these two phones are fairly equal are they not?

    • battery is quite bad from reviews… :) but quick search on google will tell you the good n bad of them

      • Yeah, i've been reading some comparison reviews. Most seem to place the S3 ahead but not by far. For me the price benefit comes into play but this price isn't drastically cheaper than an "on sale" S3 sells for so I'm thinking I could be better just waiting.

        • Engadget - arguably the biggest tech site currently - said that the S3 was a good phone but altogether it wasn't better than the One X. I have a One X, great phone. The battery at first was AWESOME. Now it's a bit worse…

  • The worst battery life of its generation, there's no way this is better than an S3 I can simply change my battery and last another day what you going to do with this?

    • I love how people blab on about 'oh i can remove my battery." WOW, THATS AMAZING.

Does any of these people actually go and buy a second battery, and have it charged in your pocket to swap over? NO.

      • My phone has the ability to replace battery and yet I opt to carry around an external power pack instead (charge as I travel) which I find preferable to dicking about with battery swapping on the go, even though my way involves lugging more junk around I find it preferable.

So exchangeable batteries aren't everything, just buy a portable charger and problem solved.

      • I take Three Batteries for my S3 on my Weekend Camping Trips. Also handy to have a spare one on hand for when I've been doing a lot of Filming of my kids.
Can't imagine life without the option of being able to 'instantly recharge' my phone when it's about to die.

      • It's one of those things that plays into your head, but doesn't really count for much in reality, like a Full HD screen on your phone. No one's ever going to be able to see that closely.

      • +3

Removable batteries are also useful if you plan to keep your phone for any length of time. Lithium batteries have a limited life span and swapping the old battery for a new one is far easier if it is removable ;-)

        • Agree but I thought those built in batteries are also removable but it just costs you more and you need to get someone to do it?

        • yeah its not the end of the world, a local phone shop will do it when you buy a battery from them most likely

  • beautiful smartphone (screen is excellent) but not 1080p, battery is fine for the standard day.
