  • rise in price

    • Get ready to say that a lot!

      • +1

Why's that? Is Thailand under water again??
No but srs, is there a global memory price increase that I should be aware of?

        • Aussie dollars depreciated.

        • Ah of course. I knew that :P Thanks.

  • Seems like a reasonable drive, too, especially given the price

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6553/sandisk-ultra-plus-ssd-re…

Not a leader in speed (but that's when compared to other SSD. If you're coming from a mechanical platter drive, that's neither here nor there) and Anand's point about Sandisk being a reliable brand (given their OEM status) seems to be worth keeping in mind.

I missed any earlier prices - is the small rise due to the AUD tanking this week? The thought of reinstalling Win7 held me off!

your math is wrong! its $6 or $9 more expensive than the previous deals

    • Sorry, I admit it's my bad :) Thanks Mod for the edit.

  • Forgive me if this sounds like an newbie Q but…
Is this compatible with a MacBook?I have a late-09 model and the (128GB) disk drive is driving me mad. I fancy a MacBook Air but this might hold that spend off for a bit — and the rest of the machine is just fine.
    Advice welcomed

    • I have a late 08 and put one of these in.
If your macbook has the hard disk in the battery compartment then you are sweet.

    • Plastic or Pro? Should work no problems (did in my 08 pro). Only thing MAY be, your mac's sata connection only uses sata2 speeds so pure transfer speed may be lower than the ssd is capable. Google your mac's specs. Nothing that'd stop me from upgrading in your shoes.

      • Pretty sure Macbook plastics dont exist anymore since early/mid 2000. MBA's took their place.

        • 2009 was the last plastic macbook. Unibody but was killed when the 13" pro was introduced. Supports sata2 speed but will still work fine.

  • Anyone tried to use the old discount code
    SDSSD

      • Will the voucher be all credit to use (so no additional costs on items <$50) or will there be a minimum spend & can shipping cost be incl. in totals?

        • There will be no minimum spend.

    • The Sandisk website says it comes with a 3.5 mounting bracket - Is that the case here, I hope so because I just ordered one. So excited, SSD drives have been around forever now - and it's my first one.

      • I think you will find these don't come with the mounting bracket… But no doubt SE rep will confirm.

Also, congrats on your first SSD. You're gonna love it. When I got my first and installed itunes on my laptop in a third of the time i was like wooooow :D

      • +1

I don't think it comes with one. I'm sure you will be even excited once you received & used it on your first boot up :).

        • It doesnt come with a bracket it has a supplied spacer thingy lol. Got mine on monday installed and like everyone who has ever put in a new SSD, computer now super duper fast. I installed into macbook pro 2011 straight swap over didnt need to use spacer fyi.

      • +1

No mounting bracket, but you don't really need one unless you move your chassis regularly. It has no moving parts and you could cable tie it or use some electric tape to fix it down.

        • I have seen some "interesting" ways other ozbargainers have previously employed without using the bracket from our past SSD posts, i wonder where these people are now?

        • In my desktop i just rested it on the frame, i've heard of people using tape, velcro, bits of cardboard etc. In my n54l microserver where the sata plugs are fixed, i just plugged it straight in and let it hang there. The plug was rigid enough to hold it up straight just fine.

As we've said theres no moving parts so it doesnt need to be fixed. You only really need a bracket if you want it to look good, or to keep it off other moving parts :)

  • can you do a deal on the extreme?

    • We will try to - keep checking our deals.

      Kind Regards

And if possible the Samsung Pro 840 as well.

That was one of the most bizarre PayPal checkout procedures I have encountered.
Add item, go to checkout, go to paypal, go back to checkout, re-enter address details, click pay and then the order gets finalized.
However … I did get the drive ordered. :)

    • +1

I've seen a few sites like this as well. But if you choose PayPal Express would it do the same?

    • +1

Wolfy that happened too me last week when i ordered from shoppingexpress. i had to reorder again and make sure i didnt have two ordered.

      • +1

I checked that I ordered only once (and didn't get charged shipping … so I hope it's all OK, but was just very weird for PayPal-checkout-system.

        • Hi guys,

Thanks for the constructive feedback, we will have a look and see if our checkout system can be modified to be more user friendly :). IF you have any worry, please feel free to PM me or send us a query at [email protected] to find out.

          Kind Regards
          SE

        • No worries, just bizarre since most PayPal integrated payments are completed as soon as you enter your PayPal details.

The SSD arrived today, thanks - when the voucher arrives will see what else I can buy. ;)

        • Hi Wolfy,

Thanks for your update. If you did not receive the voucher email within 3 working days after payment, please send a message to [email protected] regarding this, or alternatively PM me, so i can have a look to see the issue.

          Kind Regards

  • Hi ShoppingExpress,

Would you be able to extent the deal for today? Interested in placing an order for a 256GB SSD.

    Cheers

  • No bracket included. I realise now why people say they just duct tape the thing into their case - they are ridiculously light!
