Somebody is clearing stock…
different model. not so much of an upgrade.
if you want better photos & a better viewfinder + Mi adaptor - go for 58
if you want better video, better LCD screen and a few additional features go for 57
Also more megapixels in the 58. Although not always mean better…. but more is more i guess.
58 does Auto White Balance better, better exposure, better shutter speed setting
photo wise a58 would be a better choice. but it lacks quite a few features
and no 60p (50p in PAL)
So I went for a57 and can do post editing if I want to
A58 is an upgrade to the A38, not the A57. Thanks, Sony for the hopeless naming. A57 is closer related to the upper echelons of Sony DSLR (A65/A77)

Outstanding mid level DSLR - I've been researching mid level DSLR for the last few weeks, in the hope of seeing a killer deal pop up near tax time on either a57, D5100 or the Pentax K30.
This isn't quite killer enough - Kogan have had it at this price for weeks (and as others have noted, COTD is cheaper) :/
haha, post it if you find it, I am in exactly the same boat! (except D7000 instead of D5100)
Will do mate. The amount of reading and umming and ahhing I've done over prices and deals on those 3 DLSRS I mentioned above is unbelievable. I'd have to share the deal I get (assuming I find one - there's an ok price on the K30+17-70mm camera getting around at the moment that I may give in and just buy…) in order to justify the amount of carry on!
$699 + shipping at Catchfotheday…
yes i know it's catchoftheday… still about $100 cheaper
Seems pretty good - DWI does this for $848
