  • Seems like a good deal but is Kogan generally reliable? I've been trying to find an S4 with an Australia warranty so I can get Officeworks to beat it.

    • +1

I was having a discussion with a manager yesterday from OfficeWorks and he was very confident that there was no way to get Australian stock cheaper atm. As an OzBargainer that's like a red flag to a bull. Game on OfficeWorks

      • +2

        This isn't AUS stock.

        • As would be suggested by the multitude of comments left below… ;)

        • I think you can assume that Kogan doesnt have Aussie stock….

    • Depends on who you speak to some OW price eat Kogan iPad mini.

    • +1

i feel kogan is ok only for buying branded items, not their own brand/some cheapies.
so yes, ok to buy apple samsung sony etc but not kogan brand.

just weeks ago someone bought 3g version for 638$ from kogan

      • +1

+1 from me… I bought my Galaxy S2 from Kogan a couple of years back, no issues and promptish delivery.

        • Same here, I got my Galaxy S3 from them and the service was great,

    • there was a deal earlier this week posted
itglobalsales had AU stock on sale, I price matched at officeworks. Paid $680 - going overseas in less than a month too, so get to claim back tax taking it down to $620:)

  • Been watching Kogan for weeks now but it was always $639 + shipping. Thanks!

  • could always try gumtree… I did…. picked up a aussie stock phone for $650…. with full 2 years warrenty!

altho it was 4 weeks old & was oringally purchased from a store……. im happy as I got the oringal recepit to claim warrenty if there is any issue

Love how they don't say what class the micro-sd card is. If it's not 10 you're going to enjoy the laggy video recording.

  • I guess this is grey stock? so cant get GST back from TRS?

    • -1

Why not? Is Kogan an Australian registered company with an ABN?
If so, and the invoice has a GST component then you can!
Edit: Although doing an ABN search shows this may not be the case! Does anyone have an invoice to confirm?

      • Kogan is a aus company, but majority of their products are grey imports from HK, so no GST, no TRS.

        • Just got a copy of an invoice from a colleague… But it's from Kogan Mobile.
This is a proper Tax Invoice with an ABN and a GST component, but that's not to say that the phone would be supplied as such. I imagine he has several different companies set up!!!

        • I believe Kogan Hong Kong handle all the grey imports.

        • Kogan mobile offer its service in Australia using Telstra network, so the bill would naturally include GST.

But when it comes to imported goods, AFAIK Kogan imports all their phones, they're shipped directly from a warehouse in HK straight to the buyer, so GST does not apply.

        • On the invoice we got from Kogan last year for grey imported Galaxy Nexus, it was issued by Kogan's Hong Kong subsidiary and there's no GST.

        • -2

Your right Scotty, price does not include GST, they do not specify anywhere on the page.

        • They are a grey importer. So there is no GST. That's how they can sell at these prices.
That's not a valid reason to neg.

      • New? Kogan drop ship import phone, they don't pay GST. Every one here know this.

        • Doesn't matter if Kogan pays GST on the import. Only matters to you/us if there's a GST component on our Tax Invoice so that we can claim.
I import goods without paying the GST, but have to sell them with it added. Then the fun part is giving Mr Swan all the tax that I've collected… Plus a $#!tload more!!!

      • I haven't bought from Kogan, but as far as I'm aware, the invoices for their grey imports are issued by Kogan Hong Kong, so no ABN.

        • +1

I must say I haven't yet found the need to deal with these guys before. There's always been someone else about willing to do a similar price. But I did find this snippet very interesting to read. "Emptor Caveat!"

Some Products You Order on the Website are offered and supplied by Kogan Australia Pty Ltd ABN 53 152 570 351 ("Kogan Australia"), and some Products You Order are offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited (Company Registration Number: 1659337) registered in Hong Kong ("Kogan HK"). The website Product listing states the offeror and supplier of each Product. Products which are offered and supplied by Kogan Australia are referred to herein as "KA Products".

Products which are offered and supplied by Kogan HK are referred to herein as "Kogan HK Products".

It is important to note that different Terms and Conditions apply in respect of Orders for KA Products than those which apply in respect of Orders for Kogan HK Products. Where you place an Order for Kogan HK Products to be delivered outside of Hong Kong, you will be the importer of the Kogan HK Products into your jurisdiction.

This basically says, in layman's terms, that you are solely responsible for the importation of this product. I assume that would include Customs fees, duties and taxes. My accountant recently told me that import laws are changing soon. Where it is currently for anything valued at over $1000 in total AUD, it will soon be changing to much, much lower value!!!

        • If you look at the very bottom of the Overview on the S4 page in small print it says,

This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions.

With Kogan I haven't seen a phone that ever is Australian stock.

        • Yeah, I saw that, hence posting the snippet of T&Cs.

      • It's simple. There is no tax included in the price so there's nothing to claim.

  • I went to two OW stores last night and they both refused to price match it with Kogan, stating that Kogan only provide its own 12 month warranty not 24 month Australian Samsung warranty

    • What did you expect?

      • Always worth a shot, no matter how futile!
And you never know, they may have got some idiot who either didn't know or didn't care.
Bunnings try that same crap on me all the time but usually match/beat it in the end!

  • -1

Does this include GST? Can I get GST back at the airport?

    • you can always go to Honk Kong…. and order it there then claim tax from Honkers airport!?

      • +2

        It's actually called Hong Kong.

        • sorry… I got confused…. with Kogan (Honkogan)

      • Hong Kong don't charge tax. So nothing to claim back on since you're not paying tax to begin with.

        • I asked because Kogan is an Australian business, and I assume they pay GST. So they must charge GST which is claimable at the Australian airport.

        • yuo will pay gst if the item is over $1000 tho! thats the import GST

        • Read my post above…
Like stated earlier, he has different companies set up. This product will be invoiced by Kogan HK Limited. Therefor NO ABN, NO GST, NO CLAIMING IT!

        • IMPORT TAX ON ANY ITEM OVER $1000 nothing to do with kogan!!

          http://www.wwcf.com.au/Customs

        • +1

Sorry, wasn't refering to you bonky… I kind of know a 'little' about import duties, tariffs and taxes. Was meant for post above, zealmax!
Ps. A little birdy told me that the $1000 AUD figure is set to drop!

        • ohhhhhh ok…. not a problem Snoop!!

yes…. I think Gerry has had something to do with that $1000 reduction

        • Trust Gerry to make life hard for us OzBargainers.

        • does he know we exist?

          Was it Woodstock? :P

        • +1 PinzVidz… You're obviously a father!!! Such a Dad joke! :)

        • what advice was you seeking?? (iChopstick)

      • Please do some research before making wild suggestions.

    • doh, member since 2010 and dont know what is kogan

  • so cheap, bought mine for $699

  • mmm wow what a price to buy or not to buy.
using 28 degree card for price protection, seems difficult to know if OW will drop in 6 months compared to kogan which will definitely drop

  • how soon will it be under $500? any chance before sep?

    • how long is a bit of string?

    • -3

it wont anytime soon, i'd say 8 months from now, the S3 is still above $500!!

      • You're wrong, got the S3 4G for $380 from Kogan a few weeks ago.

      • why you neg?

    • +1

If AUD drops further in the next 6 months, then it would be even less likely the phone to drop to $500. Grey importers usually don't hedge as much as the wholesalers so any fluctuations to foreign exchange would affect the price very quickly.

  • lol quick someone pull out their crystal ball .

most likely according to camelcamelcamel price index
if it follows galaxy s3 prices it will take a full 6 months after release to reach sub 500 levels

which means roughly december or jan at earliest

roughly my price point too which is why im considering purchasing on 28 degree to claim back the difference in 6 months ~

or to use ING for extra 5% with TRS 10% .

    the choices

  • sold my contract vodafone s4 for $680 lol

  • Does anyone have experience in whether Officeworks will price match this phone from Kogan? I recently price matched an iPad Mini from Kogan - not sure whether they will do the same here.

    • +1

I think its been explained that they wont…

    • pasting my post above:
I went to two OW stores last night and they both refused to price match it with Kogan, stating that Kogan only provide its own 12 month warranty not 24 month Australian Samsung warranty

The lady in the new Caroline Spring store said that their Head Office sent down a memo instructing them NOT to price match SGS4 with Kogan

Can anyone who have ordered SGS4 from Kogan confirm the country in which it was manufactured? Vietnam? China? or Korean? I would prefer to buy it from Kogan if their shipments were made in Korea

      • theyre all made in the same place, the only difference between the kogan one and australian version is the warranty. The only reason why the price is so inflated because it costs more to do everything in australia e.g. marketing, service centres etc. etc.

        • I bought my SGS3 from a website a year ago but forgot which one. At that time, I asked quite a few sites and most of them confirmed that theirs were made in Vietnam. Some said that their FIRST shipment was from Korea though.

I got mine made in Korea (and the battery was made in Japan, assembled in China). I'm Vietnamese, but sorry to say that I am not confident in trusting the Vietnamese and Chinese in this area …

If I am to buy any new phone, I would root them within three days … so "warranty" is not as important as the REAL quality of the phones

  • This is the 4G model right?

Nevermind me, should actually read the link

  • +1

Long time OzBargainer but just signed up today.

Be aware the i9505 is the Quad core model not the Octa.

Check out gsmarena.com for more details.

    • -6

not the octa model, takes 2 weeks to arrive, the price does not include GST and its a grey import. Sorry but no deal for me.

      • +1

None of the 4g version are octa core in the first place, the 3g and 4g are built with different chipsets, don't think this deserves a neg.

        • My bad, didn't realise Australia isn't getting(doesn't have) the Octa chipset.

        • Korean version of the octa is the only one with 4g…. for the korean frequencies.

  • The octa model has overheating problem in summer

    • If you leave it in the sun, anything will overheat.

    • Being a lovely 13º in Melbourne, I definitely wouldn't have to worry about that for a while!!! ;)

  • +3

Ships in 2-3 weeks, no deal

  • -6

Kogan dodged me on the sgs3 when i bought it. Shipping was twice as long and i didnt even get an AU plug…their customer service is uselesss and per their TnCs and the fact the price excludes GST is a complete "no go" for me…plus you would be getting a very slow 32gb card…they cheap out on you and dont even offer a class 10 sandisk?!

    • Did they mention anywhere that you would recieve a aus plug? it's not obligatory for importers to provide one.

As for the no GST part, you should already know that you're buying a grey import when you made the purchase, why would there be GST? If its 'no go' as you said, why did you buy it?

As far as I can see, the only ground you have to stand on is the delayed postage. Mileage varies, not a reason to neg.

    • so your negging coz of bad experience ?

      thats a little unfair!

  • Ordered the S4 i9500 on 2 June for $519

Got order number and til now still not dispatch

Emailed them this morning and they said will dispatch next week

  • Wow… Price drop that quick…. Lucky I don't buy it.
I heard S4 is good for winter, as the phone get very hot while use it. It just like heat pad to keep u warm… LOL…

  • Do phones from Kogan ship with a simcard as well?
I thought I read that somewhere on their website, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

    • No, they do not.

  • only if you pay the extra!

  • is kogan likely to drop prices more in 6 months or shopping square??? for 28 degrees price protection

    • For sure they will, and they might also increase it. Like the S3 for $379 and are back at $419 and going up.

  • Faster 4G Samsung Galaxy S4 on the way
    http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_prepping_a_galaxy_s4_with_lt…

This could explain the price drop, and also new reports of lower than expected sales of the S4

  • -1

This is for a Black and White version only? You can get a colour Nokia for way cheaper!

    • Never occurred to me that color was the main criteria for buying a phone.

      • dw buddy, it was a joke that clearly failed to work :)

  • got one…thanks

  • now expired….price back to $639+$19 Postage
