  • Don't want to be a downer but I feel this isn't a good hard drive. This failed in 7 months while my WDs are still going strong since 2010. Sure you can send it back to the manufacturer but I was at fault for not backing it up. I managed to salvage the Seagate initially by taking it out of the enclosure (thus voiding warranty) but it failed again.

    • +1

everytime i see these statements, it's always the same thing, just replace 'WD' with brand-y and 'this' being whatever brand-x is on sale…

      • Take it any way you wish. Just commenting on my experience. I never saw much of an issue with either WD or Seagate in the past. Maybe other people have shared the same experience.

    • One person having one drive dying within 7mths does not make it a bad drive - every single brand of hard drive will have some that die early, and some that seem impossible to kill. I've seen plenty of (internal and external) drives from every manufacturer die, and plenty live forever.

One side note though: Not sure if every manufacturer is now doing this, but I'm pretty sure these drives cannot be removed from their enclosure and simply plugged into a SATA port.
