Pioneer HTP522 5.1 HTS $199 & Yamaha 5.1 HTS YHT298 $299 @ DS

390

Not all that many stores showing new stock, but there are quite a few showing low stock which is most likely their floor model, but at this price it's worth it.

The Yamaha system definitely looks the best of the two and has a RRP of $649.

More detailed specs on the Yamaha system can be found here: http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hometheater-sy…

  • Nice prices, but almost no stock anywhere in NSW
Glendale and Erina in NSW have the Yamaha system in stock according to the website.

  • +3

Marion, Perth City, Shepparton, Bendigo, Glendale, Erina, Canberra, Belconnen, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Mt Druitt, Rockhampton, Mackay, Northland showing stock for the Yamaha, others showing low stock

  • +1

There's stock in Dapto. Hurry up and get it whoever is nearby cos I might drive down this weekend and get one if it's still showing up as in stock.

Edit: Sorry, I meant the Pioneer, no the Yamaha.

Also, I called up Randwick about the Pioneer because it was listed as low stock but the guy said they had none.

  • Northland now down to Low Stock, hope my order got through. :S

  • FWIW, I have the previous version of the Pioneer kit and it's great value. Not the best choice if you're an ultra-audiophile, but it's light years ahead of stuff like the Panasonic HT in a box setups. Mine's in a medium sized loungeroom and is more than powerful enough, plus the bonus of multiple HDMI inputs.

  • damn thats my unit i bought $274 last year

    • Same here :(. Cannot apply for the 28 degree card due to being a student. If I could, would have been not too sad now

      • Don't worry too much. When I bought mines for $269 it was on 25/11 so just over 6 months now so the price protection doesn't apply anyway :(

    • +3

$274 brand new and you have had the use of it for months vs. $199, floor stock, and no use unless you bought it today. I wouldn't be disappointed at all.

  • YHT298 and YHT299 the same? Did a comparison on the Yamaha website, and the specs seem to be identical, but the 299 has "NEW" next to the model number.

The receiver that is included for YHT299 is the RX-V375/HTR-3066. Perhaps the 298 comes with the RX-V373/HTR-3065? There are minimal differences between these receivers: http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/audio-visual/av-receiver…

      Comes with the 3065

  • I went to the shops in Randwick to get some late lunch and popped into Dick Smith to check out the $50 Phillips one from the other deal and they're apparently selling the floor stock of the Pioneer.

    • The Pioneer would crap all over the Philips for sound. Grab a cheap Bluray player and you're laughing.

      • Oh yeah definitely. I don't know what I was thinking even checking out the Phillips :p

        • For $50 it sounds like a steal, but I would cough up the extra for the Pioneer (or the Yamaha even though it's another $100)

        • If $50 is all you got then sure, go for it. But it doesn't fit my needs. Or at least, not as my main system. Maybe something for the guest room.

      • wait for the ps 3 clearance and you're gold

  • Worth grabbing one for this price?

Just not sure, i just have a very standard setup at home atm

    • +1

It will blow you away, plus being able to input your PS3/XBOX/PVR/WDTV/BluRay through it with the multiple HDMI inputs is a godsend. I was running out of HDMI inputs on my TV! :)

  • They have one of the pioneer at Top Ryde. Marked $199 (rrp $299)

  • i have a panasonic sc-bt230 5.1 system…would either of these be a significant upgrade, or really just same-same?

    • I have the same Panasonic, it's now back in the box as I replaced with the Pioneer setup. WAY better sound.

      • interesting…i'll have to watch out for it next time there's a deal (looks like no stock around melbourne).

i was considering upgrading to one of the bigger panasonic systems (to keep streamlined functionality with my panasonic tv), and then using the bt230 in the bedroom. but one of these might be the better/better value option.

        • I will put the Panny in my bedroom when I get a TV for in there. While it's entry level for these systems, they do pump a much better sound, plus the ability for multiple inputs via HDMI.

Got 1 pioneer but no box. They bring down another10%
And I pay $5 extra for another 1 year warranty.
    So $185 all together.

  • Great prices for excellent brands and great to see it's not Samsung rubbish.

  • Great! DSE put it on special same time as I'm about to put my HTP522 system on ebay :(

    • +1

      Don't worry, it's eBay :p

      • don't worry, he is probably borden! :p

        • Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
          She gave her father forty-one.

  • Thanx op- grabbed the last model Pioneer display (would've loved the Yamaha) from Golden Grove. Manager wouldn't budge on price tho can't really complain. Thanx again op!! :)

    • you tried to haggle on this price? lmao

      • wouldn't feel right if I didn't try- kinda feel like I failed considering nainesh144 was in the same position and managed 2 knock of 10%

  • Damn I missed this, wanted to get a starter set for my Bro and SIL and then build up with a nice set of usher's :( These deals are good just for the receivers even:(

    • Hey mate,

Where you located? I'm about to put mine on ebay. 6 months old and can include receipt.

      PM if your interested.

  • OMG bought the last one, they're beautiful. To think that i bought my Logitech Z5500 for $350 few years back.

    • Well done. New or floor model?

      • floor model :)

  • If anyone is still interested you can buy the Yamaha set off me, I have the original receipt
