Windows Media Centre in Windows 7 & 8 uses a propriety format called WTV, but there are not many video editors that can read this format natively. You usually use Windows' built-in tool to convert WTV into DVR-MS first (as used by WMC in XP & Vista) before editing and re-encoding.

This tool from Aiseesoft claims to edit and re-encode WTV files in one step. I have not tried it yet but for $0, why not get the licence key anyway. And unlike other BitsDuJour software, the licensing terms are generous.

      I have not tried Handbrake either so I cannot give you an objective comparison. However, after a cursory glace at Handbrake's web site, Handbrake does not seem able to edit WTV (cutting and joining videos). If so, then this is more capable than Handbrake.

        Handbrake can convert WTV to other formats very well and - At the same time - trim the start or end of a video. As far as I know it can't cut and join videos.

        Aiseesoft WTV Converter is licensed per user, so if more people are going to use Aiseesoft WTV Converter you will need to purchase additional copies.

        How do they check if more than one person is using your computer? Should I disable my webcam ???

          Not sure where you read that it's per-user licensing, but the EULA says it's per-computer..
          "Aiseesoft grants you an individual, personal, non-exclusive license to install and activate the Software on only one computer for your personal and non-commercial use".
