some of these movies are so old I wonder if there is even a point to having them on bluray? dvd would seem adequate.

Just because a movie is old, it doesn't mean that it can't benefit from a Blu Ray transfer. I haven't seen any of the above movies on Blu Ray so I don't know if the transfer is any good but for $8 why bother with DVD? :)

Some older movies still have washed out picture and average sound. The benefits of dvd to bluray are negligible.

        • +10

This has nothing to do with a movie's age but all to do with the transfer process and source material used eg. remastered film.

Yay for negs you group think bunch of drones!

    • Have you seen any old movies on Bluray?

I have Dr No, Goldfinger and several of the older James Bond movies and they're terrific. I also have the Michael Cain version of The Italian Job and the picture is very sharp, only the sound is a little off in some places, but I dare say it's leaps and bounds ahead of any DVD version out there.

So yes it is less dependent on the age and more dependent on the source material and how much effort the studio put into it.

The effort by the studio bit has seen some terrible dud versions of recent movies; e.g. the first Bluray release of The Fifth Element by Sony was an absolute shocker and was only fixed after lots of fans complained loudly across the Internet.

CG movies benefit quite well from the 1080p treatment, having said that, RE Degeneration is still an awful movie, however it's not awful enough to be one of those movies to recommend to bad movie fans.
