if only foxtel didn't suck so much…..

    • +3

If you have no interest in sport, I could understand that. I love it.

  • Better still - buy a digital tv.

    • +3

or a set top box for $30

watching "White noise" - the full length feature film with no ad breaks (or story line).

and yet still better than Twilight ;)

    • +1

there's more emotion in an hour of white noise than in a trilogy of Twilight films on Kristen Stewart's face

      • I don't want to tarnish your view of the Twilight series but its not a trilogy…. It's 5 movies…. 5 terrible, terrible movies. One day vampires will be reclaimed as blood feasting maniacs…. One day.

  • the 12 month deal with a free iPad mini is better value
    3 months free: $210
    iPad mini: $369

    • can you please provide the link for the deal. Thanks

    • agreed - then you could watch Foxtel "on the go"

Amazing how existing customers never get anything. Can spend $100 a month with these guys and get no rewards. I guess that happens when you have the monopoly.

    • +2

One of the key rules of buisness that seems to be constantly forgotten. It costs more than 10x to get a new customer over keeping an old customer, so keep your old customers happy.

      • Lets go in business together.

      • Well, the OTHER key rule is that most of your old customers won't check OzBargain and realise they are being ripped off, so doing this is hugely profitable, unfortunately.

It's probably also related to 'new signups' easily being able to measured and incentives paid to individual staff, yet loss of existing customers not so much.

    • +1

Sadly this is becoming the case across the board.
Mobile phone companies reward new customers, electricity and gas offer better discounts to new customers etc.
I have had foxtel for a while, my contract expired two months ago, rang to cancel and I told them the reason was that I could wait a month a get a better deal by signing up again (they make u wait 30 days before you can sign up again)
They offered me the platinum hD+IQ package for $60 a month but had to commit for another 12 months.
Given it was a saving of $50 a month on retail price on that package I signed up again on the spot

      • can I ask what channels came with this deal? I have to ring and renegotiate this week

        • The Platinum pack is every channel they offer.
Not bad given I was previously paying 85 for all channels except sport and movies.
I was like.. I have been with you for ages,i am going to disconnect and reconnect in a month to get a better deal.
They offered me smaller discounts but I kept saying no.

        • thanks!

        • -3

Get a life or watch youtube.

    • while it's true it costs more to get a new customer but this is just one aspect of the case. Business does invest a lot to prevent "attrition"- business jargon for "lose of customer", so if you want to make something out of your tenure, make some noise at least or you are just one of the "silent majority"

    Doesn't include equipment and installation

$150 one off fee if tech visits

    $100 for self install

    • Yes it does.
      Saving $75 + $75. Total min cost $261.

Or by my maths, if they take $150 from that for setup, Foxtel get $111 for your 6 months subscription.

      • Then it's hidden in the minimum cost, and you have to pay the $150 up front which is over half the minimum cost

It's a crap deal, you'd get a better deal calling up and getting the install waived

And the min cost is $291 not $261

        • Typically the minimum contract length is 12 months, so this is a good deal, not a "crap" one…

        • My bad - $291 (by5l3x!c - dyslexic)

Have I missed an up front cost in the T&Cs ?
That would leave $23.50 per month on DD

Main ad highlights equipment & install included.

        • +2

The "deal" is $150 up front, no charge for the first three months then $47/month for the following 3 months on the Essential package

By paying the $150 up front you;'re really paying for the first three months in advance anyway…

Now you can pay a monthly fee to be bombarded with more ads than FTA!

    • so not true.

  • +2

When will Foxtel offer a standalone version of "Foxtel on the go"?

I would love to get the Super Rugby without digging up my front garden for an install.

    • Buy an Xbox and you can pay a monthly fee without any installs required other than on your xbox.

      • And unless you have Telstra Bigpond or an unlimited internet plan it will chew through your data in no time.
I started with the Xbox offering, most of the shows I wanted to watch could not be broadcast through the Xbox due to online restrictions that Foxtel had to agree too.
Hence, I switched to the standard offering from Foxtel and its better value overall because of the time shift and ability to record programs so I don't miss them.

      • +1

Lol, you don't need a piece of crap Xbox to do that. Any Smart TV will let you watch Foxtel via internet as well.

Thanks Foxtel AKA News Ltd - Now I can hack my brothers account with "free to go"
To News Ltd - Now how can I hack his phone !!

    • Your a hacker, good for you

      • +1

Hackers don't call themselves hackers, they call themselves coders. Someone trying to guess someone's password calls themselves a hacker.

  • +3

This is a pathetic "deal" the $150 install and set up fee chews up the saving they are pretending to be offering on a 6 month essential pack. No one I know has paid foxtel install and setup fees. The offer would have been genuine if these fees werent added to compensate them for the "3 months free" they are trying to flog. PS the amount of advertising on foxtel im sure is getting close to if not exceeding FTA.

    • I think if you have high speed Internet there are better online paid services that have quality shows viewable at your liking for less

We had Foxtel pre-internet (digital video was just starting out I mean, e.g. VCD) + FTA (only 3 mainstream analog channels) and still it was pretty boring, they repeat the same shows over and over, the movie selection is poor and the basic packages have little value

  • +1

I have not had foxtel before but i thought back in the day, that was the big selling point, that you didnt have the ads like normal tv?? I dont see the point, why dont netflix or something similar just come to Aus, foxtel would probably go out of business or atleast drop their prices like crazy.

    • +1

once you go foxtel you don't go back to free to air. I haven't looked back since joining..

You still get ads but the programming is 10x better than free to air.

  • I just cancelled my Foxtel and the main reason was because of number of ad breaks especially towards the second part of the hour.

    • Get an IQ and skip the ads…

  • LIVE SPORT is why most people have foxtel….

    • Yep.

  • -1

this is for people who dont know how to connect a computer to the tv i thinks

    • Your thoughts are skewed.

  • no fox sports in the essential package.. no from me..

  • Analog TV doesn't switch off until December 10.

  • Brisbane's analog signal got shut off yesterday.

    • sorry - your message is cutting in and out, must be the signal - can you repeat that?

  • +2

This is the WORST EOFY offer EVER!!! like EVER!!! it used to be 6 months 50% off, then 50% 12 months off for family and friends. Which I got it.

NOW? 6 months contract, 3 months free WITH 150$ IN FRONT? guys… that is marketing… far out FOXTEL…

I am sorry, this is just so much BS… :)

I would like to share my experience with Foxtel for anyone who is or isint with Foxtel.

Basically I was paying top dollar for 4 years on platinum package. Got sick of paying $$ for freaking reruns, called them to cancel it.

They accept the cancellation, book the date to pick up (normal procedure). Bear in mind they will try to give you something at front but just refuse anything unless you reach your goal (mine was to cancel the damn thing).

2 days later the guy from cancellation calls, normal blah blah (not worth it, sick of reruns blah blah )

Then comes the negotiating part.. He asked me what I watch etc.. I told him everything except movies.

He asked how much did he think it was worth… I told him $20 (Everything exceot movies is $90 + IQ SD) a month seems fair… He laughs… I dont

He gives is to me for $70.. I refuse.. We bring it down to $45 a month including IQ. I reluctantly agree

He tell me offer valid only for 6 months…

I call back 5 months later to cancel it again…

Go back to start of post…

about 6 months ago, they refused to extend it. I cancelled it.
    Bye Foxtel :)
