  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this does support booting from USB/SD right? I'm just asking because I have absolutely no interest in buying those seagate proprietary connectors and associated HDDs unless it is simply to strip the HDD out and put it into a machine. I would be much happier with this if I could put a 2.5" inside it. I have to admit though I'd be fine with just putting an SD card with android on it in there and using wireless to stream.

    • No, I'm sure they boot from internal flash memory.
The external 2.5" drive is for A/V media. You can use any brand you want with a short USB cable.
It just does not look as neat as the cradle.

    • Yep don't expect any support.

  • I thought Seagate were phasing out that connector.

The seagate interface is standard SATA. http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/201202/segategoflex_hdd…

For the 3.5inch, I've plugged non seagate bare SATA's in no problem (both 2.5" and 3.5" drives) just by removing a couple of plastic tabs on the base of the Seagate adapter.

I'd say a bare 2.5 drive would readily slot into the HDD dock.
