Lord of The Rings Trilogy (Extended) on Blu-Ray £22.49 ($37 AUD) Delivered @ Amazon UK

120

Amazon UK has lowered the price on the extended cuts of this popular trilogy to its lowest ever. It currently retails in Australia for $95 at JB HiFi.

Not much needs to be said anymore about the trilogy itself. This is the collection with extended cuts of each film on BluRay (split over 2 discs), and extras on 9 DVDs. You'll need to ensure your DVD player is OK with region 2 DVDs.

  • It was ~$42 in April 13

    • The UK price was actually higher then, but the currency conversion better. Now it's the other way around.

      yeah, someone already posted it:

Zavvi.com are a couple dollars more expensive but the DVD's in their pack are Region Free

    • +4

      here's the zavvi link:

      http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-exten…

It's worth it for 5 pounds ($7-8) extra with the region free dvd for people who don't have region free dvd player.

    • There's no mention of region free DVD on Zavvi's site. You know this because you bought it from them?

      • +4

Yes.. I was able to play Region 2 anyways, but when they arrived they were region free.
I contacted Zavvi and they advised there is two packs sold in the UK.
Region Free DVD or Region 2 DVD
Region Free is mainly sold online apparently, and Region 2 are sold in Retail stores (and Amazon)
The pack they sell is the Region Free one.

Zavvi chose to sell the region free ones to open up sales to more markets.
Amazon, which usually does this also apparently did not make the same choice.

My friend bought from Amazon, he got Region 2 ones (he couldn't play them)
He emailed them and was advised they ONLY sell the Region locked ones.

        • Cool, thanks for the clarification. I guess the marketing people at Zavvi forgot to highlight the fact on their website. ;)

        • If this is all accurate then it's very useful information, thanks

        • Did you compare barcodes?

    • I can't imagine they would be - it's the european packaging. Why would there be a separately produced version which has region free DVDs?

    • I doubt it. The LOTR Trilogy Extended blu-ray from Zavvi is the UK release which would be exactly the same as what Amazon UK is selling. There are no region free DVD in the package.

      • my friend bought from AMAZON: Region 2 DVD
I bought from Zavvi: Region Free

There is clearly two packs sold in uk and as per my comment above, its been confirmed to me by Zavvi.

Be strange why the UK would be having two different packs yet both come with UK ratings on the packaging. Well i'll try my DVD discs from LOTR Trilogy Exended blu-ray box set which came from Amazon UK in my PS3 and see if they play or not.

Edit: The Amazon UK box set is indeed Region 2 DVD locked and won't play in the PS3. I think i'll try and DVD region unlock my new Samsung E5300 blu-ray player.

        • No Idea
But I have seen many a blu ray on Amazon which is region free or Region locked and it is the same movie with UK Ratings

  • good deal even better than the "EX Display "Sale from ozgameshop which is sold out , usual ones %59

    http://www.ozgameshop.com/box-set-films-blu-ray/ex-display-t…

    • $49.99 is not such a crash hot deal compared to the brand new box set being sold here from Amazon UK.

good luck getting it at $42 delivered from amazon uk

    • It was priced higher then (in GBP). As stated, this is the lowest price it's been at Amazon. Unfortunately, currency conversions have gone against us since early April, which is why it's higher now in AUD. Remember to use your 28 degrees card or similar rather than Amazon's currency conversion for the best price.

That was early last month. No dupe

It's also not the same price delivered.

why the moderator doesn't remove this post? it's clearly against their 'guidelines'.

another post from last month still active and valid.

  • The US version costs more but ships region free for both Blu-ray and DVD. Well, at least Region 1 and 4 for DVD as it plays on my local PS3. I also redeemed my digital copies (US iTunes account) in December last year, despite the expiry date said June 2012. Not sure if they've extended the dates.

Dropped as low as USD$40 last December, so if you're not in a hurry and willing to gamble with the digital copies, check out the US version.

I also prefer the US version as it doesn't plaster the ratings logos on the box. At least that what it looks like on amazon.co.uk.

  • Re: Australia Region 4 / UK Region 2 / Region Free

I found a site that (for a fee) will advise you how (with unlock codes) to make your DVD/BluRay "Region Free."

    This is: http://www.dvdexploder.com/

Information on this site which suggests it is legit:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/3648350/Take-five-DVD-pla…

I have not, as yet, tried this method to make my (old DMR-XW380) Panasonic DVD recorder/player "Region Free," but out of interest I emailed them: [email protected] … and they offered me a 30% discount on fee.

Ps. I did not find Panasonic very helpful on the subject at the time when I rang them.

Thought this information may be of some assistance to other Ozbargainers.

Cheers (and hope you are having a nice week-end).

    • UK is region 2 for DVD but the UK and Australia both are in Region B for blu-ray so it doesn't matter for blu-ray. Also that unlock code would only unlock the DVD playback part of the blu-ray player it won't make the player region free for blu-ray.

      • Although I wasn't specifically referring to BluRay (i don't even have one) my suggestion was to consider unlocking codes if your device is region locked (like mine). If these are successful then you don't have to concern yourselves with the possibility of unfortunately purchasing a region locked dvd/bluray, from any region.

There are still some people unaware of region codes or the status of their hardware. When I purchased my Panasonic I incorrectly assumed it was region free (silly me); most seem to be today. Just offering an alternate way of dealing with the scenario.
