    Are these actually good value? Wanting to book a snow trip this year and it seems cheap compared to booking through an organised tour

    Guessing it doesn't include ski hire?

      If you can get the time off work go to NZ for a sky trip. NZ and Japan are much better value for a snow trip. Just my 2.2 cents including gst.

          NZ an Japan represent value for money but they are not cheaper. 4 people can stay in any of the caravan parks for about 30 bucks a night. Food from Woolies in Jindy. I struggle to see how NZ is cheaper?

        I just spent last night comparing aus to Nz for skiing. Nz is only about 20% cheaper. So after you factor in flights you have to stay for a reasonable period of time before its cheaper.

        The ski fields are arguably better in Nz if that's a consideration though.

      I think they are great value.

      as others have said, the snow is much better overseas - Japan is always better, NZ is 9/10 better (last year being the exception to the rule)..
      however, this is great value.

      this includes lift tickets, which by themselves sell for $167 - $230 (depending on when you go, and if you pre-buy)…

      in terms of getting hire gear, it really depends if you own anything yourself. (no places will let you hire gloves, beanie, googles… so you will need to buy these.
      there are lots of different options for you.
      best options are from the Shed, in Jindabyne.
      they charge $100 for skis/poles/boots/pants/jacket, and $120 for snowboard/boots/pants/Jacket.
      or in Cooma, Village Ski Hire for $88 for ski, or $100 for snowboard.

      You can also hire directly from the station (the accomadation), but they charge $123 for ski package, and $137 for snowboard package..

      downside to not going on a tour as well, is if you dont have a 4x4 you are required to carry chains (can be hired for about $30).. however, this arent checked if the weather is clear, and you only use them if its snowing..

      the plus side of not going on a bus tour, is that it is cheaper, and busses leave early, meaning the last hour there are alot less people. around.

    I couldn't find the fine print on this deal but OP, please inform me that if i buy just 1 of these for $199, Do i still get to sleep in the accommodation sharing with people i dont know?
    Meaning, if i have a group of four friends, do we need to share the room with two other people that we have never met before? Share rooms of 6plp

      I cant see anything about it in the fine print.
      but last year I got a similar deal (scoopon, staying at the station) and went down with 2 friends (3 in total), and we had the room to ourselves.

      If it's of any help, on The Station's FAQ it says:

      Do we share a room with other people?
      No. Only the people in your booking stay in your room.

      How many guests can sleep in a room?
      Our motel rooms vary and can sleep from two to six guests. We are unable to accommodate any more than six guests in a room due to fire regulations. This includes infants who stay for free.

        The 'minimum of 1 person' makes me think you will end up sharing if you book for just yourself. Otherwise you are fine.

    Also, just letting others know, The Station (accommodation) is 40km away from Perisher Ski Resort meaning you'll need to organise transport to get up the mountain every morning and afternoon. Shuttle buses are popular and I'm sure you'd be able to rent a car.

      If you have membership, it is cheaper at Costco .. $179

      Their 2 day lift + 2 x 2 hour lessons is also $179 - ski or board

      And a further 5% off with ing paywave - bought the lesson package on the weekend

      Not always, the best week I've spent at Perisher was shoulder (last wk before peak) and the worst ever was last year during peak (stranded at Guthega for hour+ in a queue as it was too dangerous to run lifts in blizzard). I believe Sep last year was good, I'm thinking of that.

      Of course, it's basically predicting weather, you can get a reasonable indication from www.snowatch.com.au

      Yes. The whole mountain is never open before June 27 and after September the snow is wet and heavy. Still fun though because of the warm weather.

    Need some feedback please, I would like to go with my 2 kids 3yrs & 5yrs old.
    Basically, We only go to play snow. For e.g. making snowman, etc. No Ski.
    I'm planning to drive there, I think more convenience.
    Q1. Is August the best month to go? Is Sept to late?
    Q2. Where is the best place to go?
    Q3. Which hotel is recommended?
    Sorry if this is wrong place to ask :P

      August will be fine. September is also fine. So is June and July.
      Perisher have a snow play area where you can toboggan for free and make snowmen etc.
      Cheapest accommodation will be, by far, the caravan parks in Jindabyne. But they are basic. A cheap cabin that sleeps 5 is about $150 a night, although the Kitchen facilities are limited (there are BBQ's etc like any caravan park.
      As soon as you use the word hotel, prices step up to about $400 per night.

        How about Thredbo, is there any snow for play or just ski?

          I went last year to Thredbo. Was snow around the kids could play in at the base of the slopes at all times.

          One night we got a fair amount of snow and the entire town was covered in snow too so there were snowman and the like by the roads.

          Jindy is below the snowline and rarely gets snow so, yes, you will have to drive up. It's an easy drive. Have to rent chains, but they're cheap and easy enough to put on.
