how much are the test strips?

    • +2
    • +1

50+ Strips packs are available from $24 (delivered) @ ebay.
      http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?LH_FS=1&LH_BIN=1&_sop=2&_f…

    • I've never bought strips for these machines but I've only ever been charged $1.10 at my chemist for a box of 100.

      • +5

It's only that price on the NDSS for those who have been diagnosed with Diabetes and have signed up and/or had their doctor sign them up. General persons is $15.50 for 100 on the NDSS and either $1.20 or $2.40 if you have some kind of concession/pension/veteran card.

      • +2

Sounds like you're a member of National diabetes Service Scheme (NDSS) and a concession/pension card holder which reduces the price by a huge amount.

For someone who doesn't have diabetes and just wants to check their BGLs "for the hell of it", then ~$50 for ~100 strips is pretty much the figure you'd expect to pay

  • +1

    Thanks

  • +5

    Apparently these are always free

    • +7

It like an inkjet printer, they sell the printer very cheap and made profit from the ink.

      • +2

Unless you're diabetic, which you are then entitled an NDSS card which gives you access to the cheap prices.

My partner is diabetic, last trip to the pharmacy, she bought a years supply of test strips, pin pricking heads and long and short term insulin and it cost here a grand total of $37, non-NDSS cost would have been in the thousands.

        • how did she get it that cheap?! Even with a concession card, scripts still cost $5.90 and the test strips cost $2.40. A years worth would cost more than that.
Then there is the fact that you aren't usually allowed to buy more than a certain amount per month….

    • yeah, but a difference here is you don't have to pay up front and then claim a rebate

  • +1

    is it accurate?

  • +1

    Thanks

  • These are still $39.95 @ other places
    http://www.pharmacydirect.com.au/product/abbott-freestyle-op…

    Please look at the prices

Register now before all gone, then see other things. It's definitely free. I ordered one.

    • There's a $40 cashback when bought from selected pharmacies. http://www.abbott-diabetescare.com/AU/

      • Yes. It's on same site that offers it free. If we can buy below $40 from those selected pharmacy, we can earn some money :) .
Sorry, I don't know the prices of that in those pharmacies.
For safe side, I didn't give them my correct telephone number and click to contact via email if need.

      • +3

so you buy it for $39.95 and get $40 back…. nice little profit.

        • Postage???

        • +1

This is simpler and cheaper by 60c which is why I gave this deal a + . However if you need advice on which one you need or how to use it, then you also have the option of walking into a participating pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist.

  • +2

    Ordered. Thanks
I use their Lite model and it's pretty accurate.

    • +2

Thanks for that. It's the one I ordered :) The good doc told me I should get one, but I hadn't quite got around to it. Freebie score!

  • can i use this to see if i'm pregnant?

    • +8

Depends if your male or female

      • +9

surely peeing on stick is less invasive than taking a small prick… which is what caused this in the first place…

        yeah i went there

      • it's "you're" - says Oliver

        • +1

          Thanks! :)

    • +1

No this meter is for MEN only :)

      • +3

Not so; it's for tight arses, which is not gender specific. ;)

    • -2

Sorry, I have no idea about that.

    • Yes, if you're pregnant with a sugar baby!

      • +1

the child obviously have a sugar daddy!!!

  • the site is pwned

  • +2

I recommend the first one, we use it at the hospital i work at. The benefits are checking ketones especially with those that have extremely high bsl's and go into ketoacidosis

  • +5

I filled this out over a month ago and got mine in the mail not long after, I have never been called or received an email from then (as yet)

    • +1

      Thanks for Info.

    • +1

      @RSV1000: Sharing is caring.

  • FreeStyle Blood Glucose Meter for Free

    Do they swim?

    • As it's mentioned in your profile pic, DON'T THINK JUST BUY…..:)

  • +1

    Thanks op

  • +5

I ordered one, but I don't know why.

  • +1

Is there any reason to get one of these if you're not diabetic? I like free things but I feel like I should probably leave it for someone who needs it

    • -2

Peace of mind for any eventuality. It's an American multinational, so no reason not to get one.

  • -2

Ordered one also… Perhaps the batteries will be useful. I said I was a type 1 and take oral treatment. I don't know if that's right but I like oral

    • do you get any free samples to test or just the unit?

  • Anyone with actual knowledge of which one of these is good? Like used them before? Any better than the Accu-Chek ones?

  • +1

    Hell of an address.

    • The company is obviously not hexakosioihexekontahexaphobic.

  • Hi guys, does anyone know which of those 3 meters is the best one? My friend who is a diabetic has ~500 blood when he went to the doctor to check it. I would like to give him the meter, but don't know which is the best one for him.

    • Your friend probably doesn't need one, since they would already have one. Plus the diabetes clinics and doctors give (better) meters out for free, anyway.

  • +1

I cant work out why this is upvoted so much - dont these usually get blasted and negged to hell since the strips aren't free?

    • -3

You cannot expect everything free justtoreply .By spending $24 you can test Blood Glucose 50 times if you have that.it's worth for other people. Other thing is you can have it free without spending any money.
may I know >>>>I cannot work out or ………?

      • Not what I meant. I don't expect everything for free.

I'm not in the market for one at all.

I'm just wondering why people have voted so positively for this one and so negatively for other ones. If it's really all about not mailing in a cashback form I'm just a little surprised.

        • I completely understand what you mean justtoreply. Several other similar deals have attracted neutral at best to mostly negative comments. The only difference between this and the other deals is that this is a little easier in that they post the product to you.

    • +2

No out of pocket for this one, or out of front door to be exact! All the Roche Accu-chek monitors require a mail in rebate to make them free, if you didn't receive it from a hospital or your doctor that is; a lot more hassle with the possibility of not getting the rebate due to external reasons beyond your control.

Personally I prefer the Accu-chek monitors; had gestational diabetes with my second child. Roche also, by placing an order via the Accu-chek website, send replacement batteries each year as well as a recording diary for free.

  • +2

Currently, Roche Accucheck glucose meter have cashback, which means some of their glucose meter are actually free after cashback. Most of the money earned for these glucose meters are in the test strip, basically like the razorblade business model. Most people whom are using these meters would be diabetic, and are eligible for NDSS discounts on the test strip. This means by giving people the blood glucose monitor, it also gives many people the incentives to go and get the test strips under the NDSS schemes.

Not sure whether the Abbott's blood glucose monitors are calibrated for maltose interference. Also there is no information on how long it takes to give a blood glucose reading, the newer meters can give a reading within 3 to 4 seconds from memory.

For those whom are getting this monitor, i think you should get the one with backlight, as it will help you see better in the dark (also many diabetics have bad eyesights).

  • Ordered one for my mum, but did not get a confirmation email as per the order page:

"A confirmation email will be sent to you after clicking "Submit" to confirm that your order was successful."

Checked the Junk Mail folder but still no email.
Did anyone who ordered one get a confirmation email?

    • got mine

    • +1

      got mine as well

    • No confirmation for me either! What's going on??

    • +1

i didn't get a confirmation email. it did say my order was submitted successfully

edit: i just resubmitted and and this time i immediately got a confirmation email. maybe the others who didn't get a confirmation should also resubmit.

      • i resubmitted several times but didnt get a confirmation email as well?

      • I resubmitted a 2nd time and still haven't got any emails.
I also selected the following under CONSENT:
        - "I agree to the above collection, use and disclosure of my personal information for meter delivery purposes only" (excludes communication purposes)
        - Email as contact method.

        • i also selected for delivery purposes only. in the email confirmation it says
"Permission to use info: Collection for meter delivery purposes only."

        • Update: Even though I didn't get a confirmation email, my FreeStyle meter got delivered via courier.

  • +3

I would use these with caution. My father was using a sub-$100 meter and found out it was wildly inaccurate. He nearly went blind as a result thinking he had his blood sugar levels under control. Can't remember the brand and these might be fine just if you have diabetes.. do some research into the accuracy of these.

Edit: But definitely a bargain regardless of accuracy.

  • +1

    Great post, thanks OP.

  • +3

    every ozbargain member goes diabetic

  • We got one of these for free from the doctor

  • +1

    Thanks!
There's a history of diabetes in our family - very useful! :)

  • I'm missing something, what do I click on to enter my details? I can't see how to order this. :?

    • +2

It looks like the FREE offer has expired …it now links to a $40 Cashback offer.

  • +1

anyone got this yet? Not me.

    • Same still not arrived

  • Nope, nothing here either.

  • Got it today

  • Got it yesterday.

  • +1

Received standard apology letter, "stock exhausted for this promotion" etc., standard $40 rebate to buy one if wanted.

  • +1

Stock exhausted…lucky i saved my neg vote for this
    another DX promotion…typical

  • Thank you for ordering a free FreeStyle blood glucose meter via our recent online promotion.
Unfortunately, due to the high response rate, we have run out of the stock allocated to this promotion.

As an alternative, we would like to offer you up to $40 cashback on any FreeStyle blood glucose meter purchase in participating pharmacies.

    doh!

  • Got the out of stock email to. Bummer.

  • There can't have been much stock as I ordered as soon as it was posted on OzBargain and I just got the same email. I dont know why they bother having these promotions if they dont have and stock to fill the orders. Very disappointed ;-(

    • +1

I agree. Same here. Sounds like a bait and switch to me. What better way to get a list of email addresses of people wanting/needing one of these meters.
Wished I hadn't voted this up now.

EDIT - and to make it worse they restrict you to "participating pharmacies" when you can get it on-line for $39.95

  • +1

i just got the letter today.

    • I got my free glucose metre last week.

  • Got a letter about stock exhausted. Neg.

  • We OzBargained the manufacturer when the offer is valid until December 2013? No way!

    • There was over 7000 clicks

    • There was over 7000 clicks…

  • +1

This company needs to get their act together! I just found out that a family member who ordered a couple of hours after I did ( I know this because I told them about this deal) received their glucose meter today. There is obviously no system in how theses units were dispatched. First in first served would be nice :-(

  • I am about to contact the person that is in charge of the "promotion"

Name is Jackson, phone number 03 984 37115 if anyone is interested.

Update; I didn't speak to that gentleman, but i was directed to a really helpful lady who, after I explained the situation politely, offered to send me the meter of my choice and a data cable for free.

I am happy with that outcome

  • My partner received one around two weeks ago, whereas my Dad received the email for the $40 cashback stating no stock. Surprise, another one arrived on our doorstep for my partner last night!? No stock hmmm!?
