Actually normal price is $799 and was marked down to $689 in store. For some reason it is cheaper online.

  • Hey what does a Sous Vide Supreme do??

    • this is all the info

"The precise temperature control gives you the exact doneness you want in meat and fish while low temperatures effortlessly tenderize tougher cuts of meat. The Sous Vide technique uses vacuum sealed pouches that seal in natural juices, moisture and flavours and a temperature controlled water bath to cook meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and fruit perfectly and evenly every time."

I almost read the first line as "The precise temperature control gives you the exact doucheness you want in meat and fish…"

I think this is the poncy way to cook stuff - al la Masterchef. Vacuum sealed in plastic, cooked for ages at very low temperature (like 60 degrees).

  • Finally, sous vide devices come to Australia. I looked for them two years ago with no luck. So, had to make my own thermal circulator.

    • I'm curious… how did you make your own?

I imagine you could do small ones with a vacuum sealer and a Thermomix/Thermochef, but make your own? Colour me intrigued.

Just wrap your fish/meat in glad wrap and drop it into a pot of boiling water!
        ;)

        Hi there!
Welcome to molecular gastronomy! Visit this website to see what you can cook at home: http://www.moleculargastronomynetwork.com/recipes.html . Start with sous vide. To make your own thermal circulator, follow this link: http://seattlefoodgeek.com/2010/02/diy-sous-vide-heating-imm… .
However, I have to warn you: as soon as you begin cooking with those techniques, vast majority of restaurants will leave you frustrated.

        • Haha, nice spiel!

If I'm looking at that right the pump does the agitating/circulating? Huh. I expected a beater arrangement in a DIY version. Interesting.

I might have to do this.

Indeed Sunbeam just released their Sous Vide / Slow Cooker (RRP:$199)

      http://www.sunbeam.com.au/products/kitchen/mu4000/

However I've read that they have trouble keeping the temperature constant.

      • There was a Miele's steam chamber ad on this page when I opened it first time. Steam chambers are great for sous vide too.

      • RRP: AUD $199.

        Harvey Norman: AUD $299.

        Bravo, Gerry. Bravo.

I got this at Harvey Norman for $670 without too much haggling.

  • Or just buy better steak, and/or a slow cooker for $30.

  • Might want to read this article concerning waste, plastic bag contamination and a work around solution if you are insistent on using one of these devices.

    • Long story short: re-usable silicon containers.

  • Thanks OP. I have wanted one of these for a long time. I think I'll wait until Christmas, but it is great seeing these deals. I saw this model in Melbourne in march, but couldn't figure out whether the water actually circulates. If not, it is not worth it.
