[FREIGHT FORWARDER] Barnes & Noble - NOOK HD Tablet for $149

Moved to Forum: Original Link

NOOK HD Tablet Smoke 8GB by Barnes & Noble for $149

I have an account and added it to my cart, Estimated Shipping = $12.98 AUS *Mod: B&N doesn't ship this item to Australia even though you can put it in your cart.

Seems like a good deal? haven't really done the comparison to other tablets on market like Nexus 7 though.

This just recently got full Google app access (GMail, Maps, Play store, etc.) - http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1203857

Plus at 1440x900 it's the highest resolution 7" tablet out there right now.

    • Really just need to decide whether to commit now, as I primarily would want it as my e reader for train / bed. You pay nearly 100 bucks for a good one of those anyway by time you get a case as well.

      • +2

Well, if you really want it primarily for reading, get a kobo mini, it was around 49.

Trust me you won't regret getting an e-reader instead. But if you really want a tablet to do something else, I would say wait for Nexus 7(2). Rumors had it will launch in around a month, but then it will probably be around 250ish……..

        • well, I dunno about this nook, but androids are a resource hog, I have a nexus and it performed well. Not sure about dual cores, since people were all complaining about the last acer dual core cheap tablet deal.

  • ooh quite the gpu here

  • It is a good deal actually.

The Nexus 7 is ~$250 at various places and slightly lower res (1280x800 vs 1440x900). Not that res is everything in a 7" tab. The Nook page doesn't mention camera(s) plus the Nexus has SSD with much greater storage capacity out of the box.

Suppose if the emphasis is e-reading the Nook might be better value.

    • nexus is on a whole other level. the 16gb nexus can be found for around 200-220. reviews say that this tablet is slow…

      • Haven't seen a price in that range, but haven't looked for a while.
Tried talking myself out of it, but just delaying for now.

        • you haven't been on ozb enough :) there's been 16GB for around $200 and a few days ago a 32GB for $229

        • Well I can't be everywhere at once can I?
          :p
Have two notebooks and droid phone, hard to justify a tab right now.

  • Does look like a good deal but do you have to use a freight forwarder ?
Is the price in USD or AUSD ?

  • Rumor has it that the current generation of Nexus 7 will be sold as a discount when the new version is launch. Similar to the iPad2 continue to be available when the New iPad was launched.

They wont ship to 3rd world Countries like Australia :(

Added it to cart and went through to checkout, like mentioned above item cannot be shipped to Australia :(

  • Same, tried to buy but knocked back as no shipping to Aus

  • Good thing about it:
1440x900, light, cheap, Full Google Play store access, multi user profile/login

    Bad thing:
no GPS, no front or back camera

Performance is on average, due to the 1.3G Dual Core OMAP4470 and 1GB RAM, antutu gives around 9300,
Nexus 7 can hit around 10000

    Performance check (1.5G 4470)

  • You need to use a freight forwarder or I can buy one for you for $179 delivered.

    They also have the 9 inch NOOK HD+ 1920x1280 Full HD, 16GB for 179, 32GB for 209
lightest 9 inch tablet so far, feels good in hand

    • Which freight forwarder do you use?

      • i use shipito.com i dont know what other people use but.

  • Even if you get the e-reader freight-forwarded, my experience is that B&N won't sell ebooks if you are using a credit card issued anywhere except the US.

    • damn, Aus getting screwed yet again >_<

    • You get Google Play Store, that sells apps, movies, music and Books.

      • yeah, but B&N have a number of e-books that are exclusive to them :-(

As well, I can normally source the books from elsewhere, and convert them … but it is annoying!
