GVA products are usually crap. If you buy one, make sure you can return it if you don't like it.

Keep your receipt handy. You will be guaranteed to get 12 months out of it.
At $47 dont expect premium quality.
We have a little el cheapo in our second kitchen and it's a couple of years old now but still does it's job.

Sounds like a bargain to me!

My 2c… I stupidly put faith in a branded product recently and assumed the $200 Panasonic NN-SF550W would be a good buy as we've had great success with Panasonic Microwaves in the past. It's only 3 months old and it's useless as it doesn't cook consistently ie. when it decides to work it works REALLY well and is so powerful but try to cook/reheat something in it only seconds after and it's hopeless. Tested it with two identical frozen meals one after another… first one cooked well but needed to be put back in for a few extra minutes on top of the 7 specified on the box. Fair enough however the second one didn't cook even after around 4 attempts over 25-30 minutes! Absolute POS.

Logged an online complaint with Panasonic a while back and asked for a replacement as this to me was classed as a DOA. They got back to me quickly which was good but the rep had attitude and basically laughed at my request to have it replaced and just told me to take it back to the retailer for warranty repair. I also raised the fact that most other owners of this model rate it poorly and even sent through a link to rants I found on an independent review site (http://www.productreview.com.au/p/panasonic-nn-sf550w/2.html) but he just didn't care and basically told me to read the manual to understand the different way a flat-bottom microwave oven works compared to one with a turntable. My jaw dropped.

I will never buy another Panasonic product ever again and if this is the way the big brands are going then props to the generics who nowadays seem to be pumping out better products for much lower prices. I say lets support them and take the risk! I might go buy one of these GVAs today so thanks OP!

Anyone want a slightly used Panasonic? :P

  • BTW Kmart sells their own brand for a 20 litre, 700W microwave for $45.
