ING Direct Pay Bill with Visa PayWave

Did anyone successfully use ING Direct's Visa PayWave card to pay bills in the post offices, tapping to pay and get 5% cash back?

I tried a few bills by spliting them into under $100, amongst which most failed. Council rate, urban utility (water) bill, optus phone bill all failed with the device saying "tap credit failed", Rego went through at the counter but later received "payment error" letter from Transport citing "$99 insufficient" and further payment will be done at the Transport branch. The only one success was Origin electricity bill.

Wondering what causes the failures because all failed transactions went through by inserting the card and using PIN / singnature. Specific restrictions on PayWave for bills?

  • do those new terminals at aust post support paywave?

    • No, machines only take cash or EFTPOS / Debit.

  • Paywave is a credit transaction so costs the biller something. Maybe your billers don't accept credit but want real EFTPOS which is a debit transaction on the card.

    • It went through when I insert the card, select "Credit" option and use PIN/Signature to authorised it. So it is not about "Credit" but only Visa PayWave?

And there are extra fees i have to pay when use credit.

      • Maybe your billers haven't signed up for this ING Paywave rebate campaign then. Remember it's not Auspost that gives the rebate, they are just the collection agents.

  • i got a question. say if i use ING direct to buy a david jones $99 gift card. am i eligible for the 5% cash back>?

PS: sorry to highjack your thread.

    • yes

    • yes, they don't care what you buy.
