Asus TF300T 32GB Transformer Pad + Keyboard Blue/Red/White @ Harvey Norman $412 + $6.95 Delivery

180

Online only, part of Harvey Norman's Gigantic Sale. This tablet is getting cleared out soon, I reckon.

It's good enough for people who want a quad core (Tegra 3) tablet with 720p HD screen with expandable memory on top of the given 32GB and up to 14 hours of usage with the keyboard dock.

  • Correct, it is being cleared out. New models are about to be announced (TF302T/G) apparently.

    • I see. At least this tablet is good enough for those who want a quad core HD screen tablet with 4.1 jelly bean.

      • +2

Very much so. I personally owned this tablet for 6 months and sold it recently and hardly lost any money on it. They have held their value really well. I loved it and recommend it. Great price

        • Ya, the price hasn't changed much only until when they have started to clear out their stock.

  • +1

Plus full sized SD slot and USB port on the dock (which was a big plus for me)

  • Thinking about getting one of these for someone as a netbook replacement, wondering if the sound from the unit is any good, and if there are any good music recording apps or USB mic support (I know, its a long shot right)

    • I have one, its a great tab but I would say the sound is pretty average. It all comes out of speakers only on one side. Not sure about USB mic support, I would be surprised.

  • Can someone comment on how does this tablet stack up against Microsoft Surface tablet and Samsung Galaxy 2 10" (except it's cheaper).

    • This one has quad core, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 only has dual core.

This one has been been updated to 4.1.2 which gives more smoothness, etc while the Galaxy Tab has a very limited update to that as well (like Europe or Asia).

Surface uses RT which is not really a full Windows experience. You'll only be using Microsoft Office in "desktop" mode but everything else will be the full screen metro apps from their app store which is still very limited compared to Android's.

There are many Android apps that can create and edit Office documents so I would recommend this Asus tablet over Galaxy Tab and Surface.

      • Thanks for the reply nanoronline. so android is the way to go. Can I ask an additional question ? Would you prefer this tablet over a google chrome netbook ?

        • You're welcome and yes, will still prefer this because the Android apps ecosystem is better.

Android also does not require constant internet or rely on it to work like Chrome OS (well some core Chrome apps have gotten offline mode to my knowledge but it's still not worth it).

Overall, Android is now a more refined and mature operating system compared to Chrome OS and it's made better with the keyboard and trackpad included in this deal. You can access your thumb drives using the full USB port as mentioned by sarakoth above.

  • Thanks OP.. decided to return a Galaxy Tab 2 and get this instead for my daughter.. BTW all 3 colours seem to be available and some are available for free in store pickup depending on availability.

    • You're welcome! I remember the red one was around $430 when I posted this deal so I did not mention it.

Now it seems like all colours are priced the same, and for white and red they are stated as online only. For the blue one the website allowed me to click on Check Store but when I searched Melbourne it then told me the product is not available for pickup.

      • Yep… I have just been told via email that the white I ordered is not actually available for 2 day dispatch (like it said on the website) and it will now be 14 days… I am really annoyed as it is for my daughters birthday which is in 2 weeks time. When speaking to them, Cannington had a single Red one, and Kalgoorlie had a blue one (I'm in WA)… that was it… so now I have to gamble and hope it gets delivered in time but not expecting much hope.

        • Oh man that is a bummer.. what about other colours? Will red or blue arrive faster?

        • Probably… but hard to say.. didn't really want the red (for a 7yo girl) and I already have the blue myself.. white was our preference.. have decided to wait (and hope) rather than mucking around trying to get the Blue.. I don't think she will be disappointed too much as it is her party on her actual birthday (being a Saturday), so she will have plenty of other presents from others and it is the better choice overall… but yes.. not impressed with HN that is for sure.

  • Was hoping for some advice from the pros here, would you pick this over the Infinity at $665? Why, and hopefully it's not just a price thing.

    • Really depends on what you are needing the 1080p screen for. If you usually watch YouTube videos in 720p, and do not plan to use the tablet to draw or make art, the 720p in the TF300T should be good enough.

One issue I often see popping up with new apps or games is that they are often incompatible with the TF700T because of the 1080p screen.

    • And if you are planning to spend somewhere near $700, might as well consider a full-fledge Windows 8 tablet like this one from HP at $698: https://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Co…

      Or Samsung's Activ at $799: https://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Co…

It is again, depending on what you want to do with a tablet that has a keyboard dock. Either for the apps (Android), or more productivity stuff in a portable form (Windows 8).
