Analogue POTS - how quaint :-)
Real nerds are all using VoIP over wifi now, with or without a home Asterisk box.
A good use for that old smartphone - just needs a charger stand.

But yes, $22 DECT is still a bargain.

    • Any good websites to investigate VOIP over wifi for the novice?

Hi cheep. I use Mynetfone, using their very good Whirpool deal.
Its very reliable and cheap. There is a forum on Whirlpool you could check out but it is full or weirdo fanboys. Just check out Wiki or similar for info on voip.

We save heaps using voip. Do youself a favour and give it a go.

It depends what hardware you have. Android? Nokia?
You can get a desktop VoIP phone too (e.g. cisco), but they will cost a lot more than an old mobile phone.
I'll second mynetfone whirlpool deal. Also see pennytel. You ISP may offer a good service too.

  • wondering if it can act as a add on set to my existing panasonic triple handset without needed a rj12 line ?
    Anyone knows ?

    • Read the manual page 27: Registering a handset to the base unit. (You probably have to put the handset in the base)
If the systems are compatible, this should work. I've done this with my Uniden setup & now have 4 handsets.
