Hungry Jack's $1 Big Cheese Burger (One Day Only Wednesday 1 May 2013)

2720

Saw this poster at my local Hungry Jack's in Sydney. On Wednesday 1 May 2013, try the new "Big Cheese burger with 100% Australian flame-grilled beef" for $1.

Edit 3 (T&C from HJ FB): Offer valid from 12.00am through 11.59pm, Wednesday 1 May 2013. Limit one $1 burger per customer. Not valid with any other offer. Available only at participating Hungry Jack’s® stores.

Since I cannot find this deal mentioned on HJ's web site and FB, so I cannot tell you if this is Sydney-wide, State-wide, or Nation-wide. The poster does not mention a purchasing limit. I wonder if I can buy 10 for $10?

Edit 2: The deal has been confirmed in Melbourne and Adelaide, so we can assume this is nationwide. Thanks for your reports.

Edit 1: Apology for the sideway photo. This is caused by a bug in OzBargain's Media Uploader. This photo should appear upright.

      Sweet cheeses.

      fixed

      • "It ain't easy being cheesy" :P

        • I tried to Broden this deal. But instead I just got fat.

  • oh my god!!more $1 fat on the way,but i love it!

    • How actually is it big? Or it enormous?

  • How big is it ?

    • +8

For sure bigger than your $1 coin :D

        • -4

theres no cheese in junior burgers
looks more like a quarter pounder

        • This should use the whopper buns, which is a bit bigger than quarter pounder.
I used to work there sometime back. The 4 corners of cheese is their marketing's way of showing you there are 2 slices of cheese, which only go to the big whopper sized buns.

        • -7

This should use the whopper buns

where does it say that ?

        • +49

where does it say that ?

          It's a burger, it can't speak…

        • agreed it looks like a flat version of the qpound

    • I had one today… cost me $4.95!
It is definitely a bargain at $1.
Comparable to the size of a Quarter Pounder. Probably around the same weight.

    • Pretty sure it's a 1:1 scale size to the picture on the poster.

    • That's what she said.

  • +2

It's definitely on at southern cross in Melbourne

  • +9

  • +1

  • +6

how many can you buy at once? i suspect a challenge coming on

    • +2

perhaps try 34 - should be able to get free shipping ?

  • +22

Brings back memories of the 50c cheeseburgers at maccas……
Hi there I would like 10 please (hands over $5 note)
    Hell yeah cheap, cheap burgers
    (30 mins later)
tightness in chest, pain in left arm, feeling dizzy, arghh another meat heart attack

  • +2

Looks like a whopper bun with a slightly bigger bacon deluxe patty.

Good idea would be to buy two use the bottom of one burger as a crown similar to a big mac.

    • +1

The bacon deluxe uses 2 4" patties.
Whopper bun means a 5" pattie, so the same as the pattie in the whopper.

Judging by the photo, it has 2 slices of cheese, 5" beef pattie, mustard/ketchup, onion, and mayonnaise.

I saw the sign up at a Melbourne store (Thomastown) on Tuesday night for this. So one would think this is Australia wide.

    • and i opened up my eyes and i am happy now.

  • great timing (ie: not on a tuesday)

  • +3

    No tofu option? :(

  • +9

You can't buy me for a dollar!

    • +34

You make you fat not a burger. Personally never experienced an army of burgers shoving itself down my throat while I was tied up defenceless and unable to exercise. Dont blame an inanimate object for your own faults.

      • +8

        I have, it was delicious.

      • To be fair the burgers are probably 50% fat and over 400 calories each… If you're going to take advantage of this deal I find it hard to imagine you walking out with less than 3 of them and that could be about half your recommended caloric intake for the day.

    • A surplus energy intake makes you fat, not the burger.

    • the neg votes will make you fat

  • +1

    Can confirm Adelaide is participating

    • +33

I can confirm that I personally will also be participating.

  • is this in brisbane?

    • yes, just picked up two from Post Office square, they weren't placing limits on the number ordered

  • on at corner Burke and Russell st, Melb

  • +1

Awesome! I can't remember a time where a burger is for $1 ever. 10 burgers for $10, feed the whole family :-)

  • Put down the Big Cheese Burger and no one gets hurt … or a tummy ache.

  • Surely theres a limit per customer otherwise people would buy like 10 or 20 lol
I saw this commercial last night but didnt say anything about limits

      • +14

I dont think hobos have freezers and I dont know why you think that makes them a scum bag. Their choice

  • Me and my friend just got 10 for $1 each at midnight sweet as :D

    • They didn't make mention of the 1 per customer limit? I wouldn't mind grabbing a couple for lunch but not sure if it's worth the hike to City Cross Arcade just for one.

      • not at midnight when it was dead we might of got lucky also suppose it depends on the store and who serves you.

    • Did you sleep after wolfing down 5 burgers at such a late hour?

  • awesome, pick one up on the way home from uni.

  • Only 1? :(

  • +4

I can see people ordering for themselves 4 of these burgers .. and a diet pepsi.

    • such is life

    • I'd need a few Diet Pepsis to get 4 of these down.

    • +1

HJ has Pepsi? I thought they are Coca-Cola exclusive. Or does it differ amongst States?

  • +2

Im eating one as im typing this

    • +4

In that case we will overlook the lack of punctuation. :-)

  • North Sydney store is currently not limited to 1. Got 4 in one go and 2 as I left.
It is pretty much a Whopper without the Greens and Red.

  • +5

    Ambos hate days like this.

  • couldn't be bothered waiting, big lineup in the cbd

  • Had two at a suburban HJ in QLD. Oh man… so much mayo

  • +5

I went into my Hungry Jacks after work at 4am today (May 1) and there was posters all over the windows advertising this for $1 for "Wednesday May 1 only". So I order 2 of them and have my $2 coin ready, plus I ask for my free medium fries that I won on the shake and win app, the cashier asks me for $9.90. WTF, it says $1 dude- he replies it doesnt start on the system till 5am, I say WATEVA, its advertised for $1, in the end he put it thru as a $1 frozen coke. For $1 it was passable, for $4.95 its a laughable joke. It literally was a whopper with NO lettuce, NO tomato, No pickles and No mayo.

    • +2

      cool story bro

  • +3

    $1 Big Cheese +
    $1 Large Frozen Coke
    = Cheap-ass lunch

Limit 3 per customer at West Gosford NSW

    • I did the same at Wynyard Station. A few others (ozbargainers?) were doing the same thing.

  • +1

My local was a burger per customer (per order).
Still happy with my cheap feed! So much mayo as mentioned as well.

    edit: Auburn NSW

    • +1

My local was unlimited per customer

      (Carindale, QLD)

  • Just stopped by the Russel St store in Melbourne and managed to get two burgers. Decent sized queue for anyone tempted.

  • I asked if there was a limit at an HJs I was driving past, was told no. Got 5, ate one. They're OK nothing special.

    • +1

So you gave four to homeless people? I do hope so.

      • +2

and how many are you giving to homeless people??

        • +1

I'm one of the hobos that chucked them in a chest freezer. I work odd hours so defrosting one of these late at night will do for a dinner

        • You'll be able to freeze them for a decade, if recent stories as to be believed re: mcdonalds burger ;)

    • +2

So in other words you fell for the trick and spent $5 anyway? Hook - line - sinker.

  • +1

The Wynyard (in Sydney) store is enforcing the 1 per customer rule. I think they may have only just started it at lunch time. While I was waiting people who had already ordered were getting bags with multiple Big Cheeses. Anyway, I used HJ app for 50% off so ordered an Aussie and a Big Cheese for just $4.

  • +1

The one at Pitt St was not enforcing the one per customer, saw people carrying bags full of them. It was mayhem and I think the guys making them in the back were getting confused, I got two and one had onions in it for some reason…

    • -4

Bags of them? I knew it, disgusting!

Can people really deny the likes of Dominos etc, aren't preying on low income earners at this point? Finding the sweet spot where they simply can't resist the price and convenience, with no thought of health? These people are no doubt feeding this shit to their kids or backing it up for dinner and breakfast. Sad state of affairs people. And type 2 diabetes is now an epidemic… couldn't possibly guess why.

Can only hope that these people are handing them out to the needy.

  • just brought 3 from the kingswood store :)

  • +2

A friendly word of advice, I'm a big guy with a big appetite and they were huge! I thought they'd just be like a regular size cheeseburger so ordered two thinking they'd be on the smaller side. Instead they were about the size of a whopper! Struggled to finish them both. I think one should be enough for most. Great value for $1, at the regular price not so sure

    • +3

To be honest if you struggle to finish them both (these having less ingredients than whoppers) then I don't think you qualify to say you have a big appetite.

NB: yes i know subjective etc etc, this comment is half in jest but also half in seriousness.

    • about the size of a whopper

Diameter only. Not height. It is a slice of meat, slice of cheese and sauce.

      • Didn't yours have the onions and other stuff?

  • +1

These things are massive. 1 1/2 and I was full, down it with a $1 Large Frozen Coke and you've had a $3 lunch!

  • Thanks OP.

  • I wonder if these re-heat reasonably from being frozen…

    • +1

They would do yeah. Everyone I know says that reheated cheeseburgers taste the same as 'fresh'.

  • Bought four at HJs West Terrace (Adelaide). They are bloody huge and damn tasty. Could only get through two. Other two are in the fridge for re-heating and consumption tomorrow. :)

    • dunno if I'd say DAMN tasty but yeah. Not baad.

      • +1

The huge slathering of mayo and the big cuts of red onion I got in mine made it all the better :D

        • +1

One of mine had a tiny bit of lettuce on it, score!

Haha but I'm glad it had a decent amount of onion. I love it.

  • Bought one today at Cirqular Quay. Reminds me a lot of the (American) Jack in the Box "Ultimate Cheeseburger."

  • +2

Like most ppl here, I bought 2 and was suprised at the size. Got through 3-quarters of the 2nd one and was done. Good value!

  • Some places are running out of 5 inch buns and using 4 inch buns. It means they can't make otehr 5 inch burgers too!

  • Works at HJ Punchbowl NSW
Ordered 3 with Lrg Frozen Coke $4.
    Very happy
