Was thinking about the same thing too….how's the reliability like…
I bought 1 from the amazon black friday sale for around the same price and it's still going strong after 4 months.
I've been researching SSDs this week and more often than not people say to stay away from these drives and to go with an Intel or Samsung instead. I've read enough bad reviews on OCZ that even at this price I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.
My two OCZ Octane S2's are still chugging away fine. That said, the prices have come down enough on competitors with better track records such that I wouldn't take the risk again! ;)
i've got 1 of these. had it for a year now. nothing wrong with it at all
I've had a few OCZ's over the years. I had 2 failures occur within a month of purcase (one was 2 days old before bricking itself) and others years old running happily. The moral of the story, at least in my experience is, if the drive reaches a few months old without hiccup, it will generally run its course.
Take this with a grain of salt but those are my findings.
Not my first, or even second choice of branded SSD these days but this is a very good price for a high performance 256GB SSD. I'd consider it if I currently had a need for one. Though extra money spent on Intel & Samsung would be a step up from this drive, it may also be extra money you don't need to spend.
Not sure about the SSD, but just wanted to give BudgetPC a big thumbs up. Great service and after-sales support.
(No, I have no vested interest, just a happy customer.)
So, if you had issues with the SSD, I'm sure they'll look after you.
Go for a Samsung or Intel SSD instead. Got a Samsung SSD 250gb 840 series and its a fantastic performing drive for its price.
For the sake of an extra $20 ($185 for Samsung 840 - 250gb), I'd have to choose the Samsung
(sidenote, I'm turning into a bit of a Samsung Fanboy. Got 2 GS2's for me and wifey, a Washing Machine, a Laptop and they are all top notch in my book. Any product with the Samsung sticker instantly gets Kudos in my book and has me swaying in that direction)
Me too, lots of Samsung products in this house. Just 2 or 3 years ago I don't think I had anything wearing the company badge. Suffice to say I've turned into a fan too.
Also went through a similar phase except I'm staying away from the Samsung Fridges. The temperature control on my fridge went haywire. Got it fixed twice to no avail. Basically its one big freezer now.
How many gigabytes is your fridge again?
What is the reliability of these drives. Past OCZ drives had some issues
