Got this as part of B&H's "Today's Hot Deal". It was discounted to USD$199 back in February, and now it's $189 + postage = USD$234.25 / AUD$225.65 delivered to Australia. For those worrying about overseas warranty, see this comment from previous deal that apparently they have a Sydney RMA address.

Wow, just wow. Thanks Scotty :)
You can get 4TB Seagates for under $200 locally.
Slower 5900rpm spindle speed, but probably a better deal if you're throwing a bunch of them into a RAID array.
1 year warranty vs 3 year warranty I believe, so worth the extra money.
Actually it looks like the Seagates are now 2 years warranty. (Maybe an Australian Consumer law thing?)
But good point. 4 drives shipped = $843.82 for me, so $210.96 each. 7200rpm and 1 yr extra warranty are probably worth it.
Just for a bit of a laugh PC Market wants $523.07 for it. How Australians are getting ripped off.

ScorpTec actually sells it for $299 + $10-$17 postage, which is the cheapest I've seen here. Take away the GST and B&H is still ahead, consider HGST has global warranty.
Awesome, I was hanging out for a 4TB WD Red but this will do the job.
Do you see that 3 year protection plan for $29.99 just under the Add To Cart button?. I wouldn't worry about that as the Hitachi Deskstar already has a 3 year warranty. Just to help any one avoid wasting their money.
$257.43 delivered, from an Aussie retailer being LMC. Not sure how easy it is to manage local warranty claims when buying from B&H. For mine, the extra $31 peace of mind is worth it but otherwise $226 for 4TB is very tempting.
G. Thx. I'm building my computer and now I can cross one thing off my list.
Seb's right! $31 for Aussie piece of mind-return to store is just too easy to pass up!
Why u guys invest in Overseas stock is beyond me. don't you ever think about warranty returns? yeah, post it back to NewYork!!
Why doesn't anyone read the description….
I read the description, a Sydney RMA address for B&H and 2 weeks to get a replacement drive; from the other Ozbargain post. I still reckon a Melbourne b&m (bricks & mortar) retailer is worth the little bit extra but each to their own.
You do realize that those B&M retailer stores would just be shipping the drives back to the manufacturer the same way so you'd be up for the same 2 week wait at least for a replacement if not longer because the B&M retailers send the warranty returns back in weekly batches so adds an extra wait.
at about the same price or a little more, I would support local retailer
but when local prices are getting too greedy, I will turn away!
yes Harvey, read this, it's for you too!Scorptec do advanced RMA for drives, so they will give you a fresh one straight away rather then waiting for the old one to be sent off.
I've been looking through the HGST Warranty Statement and no where can i find that drives bought from overseas won't be honoured by warranty. It states that the drive must be bought from an authorized HGST dealer and i would say B&H Photo Video would be one of them. Going by that you could buy from an authorized HGST dealer in the US and have the drive shipped to Australia and still get warranty. It says to contact the appropriate HGST Call Center for an RMA and ship to address and there is a contact number in Australia. There's a reason why it's called Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.
Awesome price, loving my drives from the previous deal.
not so cheap
agreed, would be nice to bring back the USD129.99 :P
This is 4TB not 3TB
Yes some people don't read the topic.
Didn't we have a 3tb sale yesterday for $123?
I don't get how an extra tb for $100 more is better or am I missing something here..Many people need a lot of storage. If you have 2 slots, 4 slots or even 8 slots, either way you need to think ahead as to if its worth a slightly cheaper price just to run out of room later on.
Depending on what drives you use, it can work out cheaper to go for a sas expander + UEK + PSU and case then going to the highest capacity drive to begin with.
Can you give an example on how its worth doing that?
I had a quick look and couldn't see a solution that wasn't very expensive.
for historical reference:
bought this back in 11/2012 thanks to ozbargain deal, the price was US$189 each (bought 4), postage US$77.86 (for 4), 28Degrees card AU$802.56 worked out approx. AU$200.50 per drive shipped. delivery took around 1 week.
Man that's cheap.
