A brief guide to locking in OzBargain's favourite fuel deal
The 7-Eleven Fuel is an app for iOS and Android that allows you to lock in a fuel price for the next 7 days. You can lock in any fuel that the 5 closest service stations offer. Why would this be useful? Well if you have just filled up your tank and the price cycle in your area is on the rise, then you will still be able to pay the price per litre that you have locked in.
Methods of locking in fuel prices using a Fake GPS app have been around since late 2016. This method involves downloading a GPS spoofing (mock location) app onto your device, setting your location and then returning to the 7-Eleven fuel app to find the cheapest fuel in your new location. The problem with this is that if you are not fast enough then the 7-Eleven app will notice that you are using a fake GPS to spoof your current location and giving you an error.
Then in 2018 Freighter released the first modded APK (Android Package) that removed the check that the official 7-Eleven app uses to see if a user is using a GPS spoofing app. After Freighter stopped publicly updating his modded APK, master131 took up the reigns of releasing the updated APKs. Early 2020 Freighter released a new method for mocking your location by incorporating it into the actual 7-Eleven app which removes the need for using a second app.
The part that everyone really loves!
Because I can. No, not really, because it will hopefully help people.
If you are using Freighter's modded APK you probably haven't generated a device ID. Click on “Settings” and choose GENERATE A DEVICE ID. Force close the app, and then try again
Alternatively, if this is the first time you have started app, just force close the app and try again (if there is no GENERATE A DEVICE ID button)
Have you already locked in twice in 24 hours?
There is a limit of 2 fuel locks per 24 hours per Device ID
This is not account specific
There are a few ways to address this:
No. Chances are that it doesn't need it, or that I don't think it's worth adding.
Pay me to do it! No, I'm kidding, make a post on the forum about it and if it seems essential then I may contemplate it.
No, it does work. Follow the instructions, and there shouldn't be a problem
You can only lock in twice in 24 hours. You have probably exceeded that.
Contact cwongtech, he will guide you through it. I have no idea knowledge of it and don't really want to learn about it.
Thanks, my mum thinks I am pretty cool too.
There are ways to lock in a fuel price from the comfort of your computer. I'll try and outline a few below.
You can use Python on your NAS/Linux/Windows/Mac etc to lock in a price. There are 2 options available: manual or automatic. The manual option lets you choose a suburb you want to lock your price from, and the automatic gets the best available price from ProjectZeroThree and sets your location to that store.
A detailed guide is available on the GitHub wiki.
SIMPLEST WAY IS TO GRAB A CHEAP DEVICE WITH [IOS 12](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_12#iPhone) AND USE [3UTOOLS](http://www.3u.com/)
Nox and BlueStacks are Android emulators for PC and Mac. This will let you emulate the Android operating system and you can install the official or modded 7-Eleven APK from there. An instruction set will be coming soon I hope.
This was mostly written by Freighter, I'm sure someone else will come along and help with it (hopefully).
but most of all, samy is my hero.
