The Ricoh GR Digital is a compact digital camera. Its distinguishing feature is its fixed focal length lens (non-zoom). First announced at Photokina 2004, it went on sale in Japan on 21 October 2005 at the price of ¥80,000. The GR Digital is Ricoh's digital successor to their popular 35 mm GR series film cameras. The Ricoh GR Digital was succeeded by the Ricoh GR Digital II. Despite certain criticisms, the Ricoh GR series has gained a cult status among street photographers[citation needed]. Its 35mm predecessor was made famous by Japanese street photographer Daido Moriyama, as it was his camera of choice.
