HTC ONE - Phone Plan

Hi Ozbargainers.

I just received a call from Vodafone offering me to upgrade my contract plan and receive the new HTC One with Bonus Beats Solo Headphones on their $60 plan (24mth), they mentioned that the HTC One is $3 a month on the $60 plan and would wave that $3 as a discount.
Now I understand that Vodafone gets a lot of grief for their poor reception and service, but from my experience, they haven't been too bad, slow internet occasionally, probably because I don't know any better. They also mentioned that they will be getting 4G in the coming months which is great news.

I didn't realise my contract was expired and had i known, i probably would have just switched to Telstra.

What i want to know however is whether anyone else has received this offer. I know Vodafone are known to give big discounts to customers who plan on leaving their network. Is it worth sticking with Vodafone, does anyone have any advice or experience of negotiating with them, what kind of discount can i realistically get from them?

Or is it not worth sticking with Vodafone, any customers of other networks give feedback on what their service is like? Is Telstra as awesome as some make it out to be?

  • I pulled out from Vodafone around 2010 without an ETF due to the congestion but according to Whirlpool, it's more than usable now due to people abandoning ship and they spent a fortune improving their infrastructure. Some users did Speed Test with Vodafone and it's about on par (if not better) than Optus*.

They're desperate to hold onto their remaining subscribers, so they're being very generous here. I reckon you should stick with them and if it craps out again, pull out by evoking the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

*YMMV depending on state and city.

  • Kogan uses the Telstra network and at 29 bucks a month unlimited, no contract, you can't loose. I got a HTC X Desire for $250 new from EBay. The Telstra network does have superior coverage.
