Sealy beds made and owned?

Does anyone know if sealy is a Australian company or from USA? Always thought its Australian Owned then found this…

wiki:
Sealy Corporation (NYSE: ZZ) is an American owned[1] major manufacturer of mattresses, based in Trinity, North Carolina, in the United States

On sealy website:
Sealy is wholly Australian-owned company that started in Brisbane in 1923 and brought Sealy Posturepedic to Australians in 1969.

  • It's possible for both to be true. Same name, but different legal companies. Eg. Coca-cola in the USA vs Coca-cola Amatil in Australia (though the US company may hold a minority interest in CCA).
    Just do a google search.

There are licensees operating in Australia, Bahamas, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand and the United Kingdom.

  • So your saying that sealy isn't a Aussie company? Then do we aussies even have any matress conpanies that are owned by australian?0.0

    • +1

A H Beard is an fully Australian owned entity. It makes bed with many different brands. Some of these are major international brands licensed to them for manufacture in Australia. An example is Kingcoil. They have manufacturing facilities in most States. Their website http://www.ahbeard.com/

    • It is an Australian company that is a licensee. It has it's own manufacturing facilities, though I'm not sure what percentage of it is in Aust.
We live in a global environment, with blurred boundaries. A lot of manufacturing done overseas. I see you're trying to support Aussie stuff, but that can happen in more ways than it just being Aussie owned. Say if it was private company owned by a few Aussies, yet all manufacturing and running of business is done offshore, how much is that contributing to the country? Vs say Aldi, a German retailer that sources fresh produce from Aust. suppliers and creates local jobs.
Sealy would surely fit the bill (unless you're planning on buying a mattress from Amazon lol).

there is this one in my area you may have similar…

  • The Sealy warehouse is in Wetherill Park, Sydney. I'm not sure if it is just a warehouse for dispatching the goods or a factory.

  • So sealy australia and sealy America are two different matress companies?or the same thing?

  • So theoretically it's a American company, and opened up branches in other countries.. Then it shouldn't be saying Australian owned? And 100% Aussie company..

  • I can testify to the quality of both the product mentioned.. Sealy & A H Beard.
We have one of each brand purchased some 5+ years ago. (located in 2 homes)
The A H beard cost almost half that of the Sealy and is far better, in fact it is still like new where the Sealy has sagged and become uncomfortable. Just FYI…
Could almost call the A H Beard a "bargain". :-)
