In Japan looking for a decent priced rice cooker

So I have a couple of days left in Japan and I want to buy a decent rice cooker. Since Japanese voltage is different to Australia, I wasn't able to purchase them at their big store around the place that I am staying.

Anyone who knows where I'd be able to purchase a rice cooker that works internationally, I have seen some in Akihabara but they are $300+

  • mate, i believe there are much more better things to do/see other than finding rice cooker in japan.
    yes sorry im not helping.

    • I've been in Japan for almost a month and I have already done all the sight seeing I have to see (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Fukui, Nagano and Tokyo are some of the places I've been)

Just doing some last minute gift shopping for my family at home.

  • Are the Japanese rice cookers that much better than the ones you can buy here?

    • Yes, They are high quality rice cookers and are completely different to the ones back in Oz. Japanese rice cookers use Induction Heating Pressure compared to the cheap ones that we see on OzBargain for $10 from GG or Aldi.

You can set a timer to when you want the machine to make cook your rice.

The type of rice you want to make "white (regular, softer or harder), umami, mixed, sushi/sweet, porridge, brown, GABA brown, steam-reduce, scorch, rinse-free and quick cooking"

Maybe the specs might be a bit fancy but the rice cookers are much better in Japan than back home. My GF's family that I'm staying with has one and you can tell the difference between theirs and my cheap one I bought from GG.

      • +2

Surely you can order or even buy those cookers from here? Might even cost the same or less, due to oddities of export pricing.

        E.g. see here: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showpost.php?s=31e1f37432b…

        • thanks for helping out, Ended up buying a 10 cup Tiger rice cooker for $180AU, the machine is made specifically for Australia.

Has all the perks so Im happy :)

  • just make sure it is 100-240v and then get a simple adapter from ebay for $1 and you will be fine.

    • Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. The convert adapters here are about $2, already bought a couple of them :)
