LE CREUSET Square Skillet Cherry Red 26cm $93.40

121

I bought this from Myer last night.

I was sure that this is a mistake, therefore I called and confirm that it was a mistake on their website but they will still honor the purchase.

I just checked and still Myer have not fixed this mistake on their website.

Therefore I am posting it here for people to grab it until they fix the link.

Thanks

  • What was the mistake?

    • the size of the pan says 26 inch ($249.00) while the price posted is for a 20 inch pan.

sorry 26 cm, not 26 inches.

  • Price?

  • $96 is the mistake price? Seems pretty normal to me.

    $93.40 for a frying pan… it doesn't seem like a mistake?

Maybe if it were $9.34 I could see its a mistake. However $93.40 seems like a standard sale price?

  • Le Creuset is a killer brand, & it seems they're supposed to be double that price: http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/au-homeware-r-6/midseaso…

This is an awesome deal - RRP in the vicinity of $250, usual sale prices are about $170. +1 for me, I love Le Creuset cookware.

  • The normal price is $249.00, the current discount is 30% which brings down the price to 174 approx.

the mistake is the size of the pan, this price is for a 20 inch pan while the website says it is for 26 inch one.

You can check and you will never find a 26 inch grill pan at this price.

But your title says its a 26cm pan. So it is inches or cm?

      • sorry cm not inches.

        • I was thinking the pan would be the size of a small TV if it were inches :)

        • On the plus side, you would get a high definition omelette.

  • "Please note that Myer Gift Cards cannot be used for online purchases." This sucks! :(

    • Agree… otherwise you could save another 5%

Great cookware and in fact I used my blue version of this exact skillet last night for a couple of steaks… but it cost me closer to $300 many years ago! My only critism is the weight, they are friggin' heavy as but that's why they work so well so it's unavoidable. They are also quite difficult to keep spotlessly clean but after owning one for a while you soon learn to let go of that and let the patina grow :) Adds to the flavour anyway.

$93.40 is a certified bargain for one of these beasts.

  • I just ordered one…… FREE POSTAGE!!

The last one i got was from Peters of Kensington for $120…. I thought that was cheap…

I know it's a saving for this particular brand and model but what makes this any better than the $20 Aldi cast iron skillet I have?

Are you simply paying for the brand?

    • +1

I don't think you can compare Aldi no name brand to La Creuset…

      • +3

why not? they're both just pieces of cast iron.

      • That's exactly what I'm comparing. Why do you think we can't compare them?

Because like SteveAndBelle stated below they are both just cast iron skillets. What exactly makes this skillet any better at maintaining and transfering heat or anything related to cooking?

If you don't have anything useful to add then don't say anything at all.

I have a Le Creuset pot and frying pan and 2 cheap aldi pots and a griddle. The Le Creuset cookware has better enamelling and a more even finish. The aldi pots are stained and scratched - same overall use.

But they all cook the same.

So the aldi ones probably won't last more than a few years but I could buy 20 aldi pots for the price of 1 Le creuset.

Depends on what you want and you could make good arguments both ways.

          Hope this helps someone

I too have had this thought. We're comparing a lump of cast iron to another lump of cast iron so I'm not sure the $300 I blew on my LeCreuset Skillet was worth the brand name and fancy colour. Sure, it works REALLY well and cooks steaks so perfectly but why wouldn't the ALDI lump of cast iron do the same thing? I've been tempted to do an A-B comparison but have never got around to it.

  • Just tried to buy one online… It comes up with insufficient stock! Guess I missed out :(

  • I just tried to buy one and its letting me…. Im in NSW??

Cheap yes, good quality no. Le Creuset make great xrock pots but these are sadly not built as well. I had two of these and both cracked and died, they're just not durable. Save your money for other ones.

    • Ive got more than one Le Creuset pot/skillet and theyve been just fine…

Did you get a replacment under the warranty?

  • All gone, insufficient stock.

You can buy as good or better ones from Victoria's basement for equal or lesser price.

I recently bought a Benzer cast iron grill for $39 from $199 RRP. My steaks come out perfect.

Or you can get Chasseur (Made in France) one for $69

There are tons more from various brands for less:

What is your point? That you can buy inferior products cheaper?

I own Le Creuset and Benzer (and have used Chasseur).
The Le Creuset wins hands down - better build quality and even heat to name a couple of reasons.

You get what you pay for.

      • My point was to give options to those who are not aware of such deals for similar quality pans.

One I mentioned (Benzer) is technically a better deal as it's nearly 80% off RRP while this Le Creuset is only only about 60% off. Looking at some of the replies, some will be more comfortable paying $39 than $94 and knowing they got a better bargain even if it's not the most prestigious brand. (which this site is all about)

I personally recommend the Staub Cast Iron grill pan over this particular Le Creuset pan as it's more convenient. (can handle it with bare hands while heated for one) It's also a lot cheaper and more readily available. Both LC and Staub are as good and is a personal preference more than quality IMO.

Edit: lol, it was available but now out of stock. Ah well. Good things disappear fast. =p
