55 inch LED TV on flight as check in?

Just wondering can I carry 55 inch Led tv on flight as my checked in luggage on international flight?

  • You need to phone your airline to find out if this even qualifies as Oversized Luggage. May need to send it via air freight.

  • Carrying it in or out (trying to save the GST?) of the country?

  • Carrying out but it's old unit so not for gst purpose

They have those metal bag measurement frames at the boarding gate. If it fits in that, go for it. (Put it in a "hand" bag or back pack first though.)

    • you're referring to hand carry luggage. Checked-in luggage is the luggage which goes at the bottom of plane.

      55" TV, not 55cm.

      • Well, they take surfboards - so, no problem I say.

  • I'm only guessing but won't it be cheaper to sell and buy another? Unless the country you travel to is extremely expensive, and runs on the same voltage too?

It's same voltage and it is cheaper by almost $700 here in aus. I can carry only as checked in baggage though.

How much would checked in luggage be? I guess it's in original box… Does the country have a ___bargain.com.au website? Might find a deal.

Does the country have a ___bargain.com.au website?

Does the country have a ___bargain.co*.*** website?

I m just concerned about the size of the box, if airlines will allow it. Otherwise it's under my free allowed check in luggage.

It depends on the airlines and the person behind the desk.

Might I m going to India and there is not such webste like ozbargain honestly

      Might? Lol

mate = might. common practice for indians in oz.

Have you seen the way baggage handlers treat luggage? Enjoy your 55 inch screen, in 1 inch square pieces.

  • dont these things have to be upright all the time? i doubt it will be even if the handlers try their best..

    • +1

You are right, if it is Plasma TV, they have to be handled upright all the time.

Have not seen that amount of difference in TV price but if it is, you should take it. People in custom are moody, if they are happy, they will let you go; if they are *issed of something, they won't.

      • if they are *issed

        if they are kissed?

Posted a day before April fools? hmm.. well check with airline see if it fits in the metal cargo cage they have for oversized luggage. Not all airlines have this service. It was free service for me going back 4 years ago and weight was inclusive of my other luggage but they will probably charge for this now. This was Qantas.

@darkage….sounds usefull. Even my friend took in same way before 1 year.

Becareful when picking up though. When I used oversized/fragile luggage service going to Hong Kong I had to chase a guy down in Hong Kong airport baggage hall that was just roaming around with special luggage items and in Melbourne special luggage items were just left on the floor in the corner on the right of the baggage hall unguarded. Mind you I only had small fragile items but still wasn't impressed that anyone could pickup my items. Best to ask about pickup arrangements as well.

      • Thx buddy

Should be fine for carry on.

  • It may be also an issue with weight.
I think a package can only be max 30KG due to OH&S issues.

Which is why most airlines nowadays restrict the max weight of a baggage to 30KG or 32KG.

I doubt the TV will be lighter than 32KG….. haha… But yea, best thing to do is just give the airlines a call.

  • as long as it is under your checkin weight limit (23kg or 30kg) it should be ok… They will take this as a fragile item so the TV should be fine…P.S i have done this multiple times from Malaysia and Bangkok..
even after paying customs in India you save heeps…
