  • thx let me check them.
usually philips shavers appears on ozb. what people think about reminton vs philips shaver?
    the panasonic looks good…

  • Last time I used an electric shaver was at least 10 years ago, was never really happy with the shave I got (as I have to shave quite often).

Over the last few years I have started to get a bad razor rash when I shave. Have considered try out an electric again, has anybody had experience with any of these or similar that they could recommend?

    • I switched to electric a few years ago and would never go back. It takes a few weeks for your skin to get used to an electric, just go gentle until then. Until your skin is adjusted when you can be a bit more rigorous you'll probably be not as happy with the shave, so give it a few weeks. It's so handy being able to shave dry and whenever is convenient rather than after a shower or a good bit of steam/hot water.

Electric shavers from amazon are very good value, I use a Panasonic ES8249 (also from Amazon) and am very happy but couldn't make a fair comparison to any other brand or model. Also you need to decide on rotary vs foils, there's strong opinions about both camps, do some research and figure out what's best for you.

Just be warned, that the replacement foils on these shavers represent about 60-80% of the cost of the unit despite just being a little bit of metal and plastic at the top. Look after it with kid gloves, always cover when travelling or placing into a drawer, I've replaced mine only because I damaged the foil rather than it wearing out (it's 5-6 years old). I replace my foils probably every 2 years or longer but am not particularly hairy or with thick hair.

Don't bother with any cleaning station models in my opinion, I have one and have used it twice, they take special soap cartridges and are noisy and slow. Far quicker, more effective, quieter and simpler to just squirt hand soap into the top with some water and turn on for 5-10 seconds to foam up then rinse.

If I was going to buy one again, I'd get one in the sweet spot of about $80-90 on Amazon which seems to buy a great shaver at a very cheap price.

    • I think if standard razors are irritating your skin, an electric is going to be worse - especially anything rotary. I would probably recommend trying out a DE razor with a decent shaving cream. Maybe using one sharp blade instead of 3 or 4 not so sharp blades will mitigate your issues a bit :)

      • +1

Hmmm I think that blades are far worse for causing irritation, they take a layer of skin off with every shave, whereas electric only cut the hair unless you push it too hard.

I used to have a raw feeling after every blade shave, but nothing with electric.

      • Blades are definitely worse for my skin - I've not tried rotary style, only foils.

  • i love my remington ladys shaver on my legs and my man's back. the first one lasted 5 years so im sticking with them since same model still available. dont bother with cheap shavers they dont work and i have heard some people judge all shavers based on their experience with a cheap one. i have not tried phillips so cant compare but remington in my experience is worth the money.

i would love to hear what the best mens shaver is for facial hair, i know they are designed to handle tough beard hair.
