Hi,
Wife is looking for a cheap netbook or laptop or tablet. Will be using it for web browsing (lots of reading of articles) and basic word processing. She currently has an asus n50vn but it's too heavy apparently (3kg). So looking for something < 2kg minus the power supply, doesn't have to be powerful and battery is not an issue as it will be used plugged into wall. Also refurbished is ok but has to be australian so we can claim it on tax.
Looking for Cheap Laptop/Netbook/Tablet for $200 - $350

what's the software like for chromebook though. It's different to android right.
The software is very web centric. All the apps you install are through the Chrome web store and it also has tight integration with Google Play.

It's more suited for people with casual needs (i.e Google Docs, web browsing, Youtube) and who use Google's services.
I'd definitely recommend the Samsung Chromebook. Given it's just web browsing and basic word processing, it'll be perfect. My wife uses one for exactly that and it's a great device at a great price. It turns on almost instantly and updates automatically plus battery life is great as well.
Have a look at Acer and Samsung chromebooks. Good bang for buck machines I reckon - I personally bought mine (Samsung) from B&H Photo Video for $295, but JB Hifi (and some other retailers) has Acer for $300 and Samsung for $350
