  • I'm just guessing here that this is a completely useless device.

Something like an air horn would be better I'm assuming if you wanted to make a loud noise.

You can use this everytime you shop at Harvey Norman.

    • lol

      • Hehe my comment doesn't make much sense after the title edit :-)

If you buy two….does it ward off multiple r@p!sts?

Personally if I was a woman, Id be carrying this http://bit.ly/10HTnCY I think one of these to the gut would deter someone more than some alarm.

Also if you glue it to the roof of the fridge and tie a string from the alarm catch to the door you get - FRIDGE ALARM!

    • i would get 100 of these, tie fish lines to it, then rig the fridge door, when someone opens it, all these alarms will trip and fall out everywhere. :P

I have changed the title because I think it was a bit strong. I have never heard them referred to by that name before - they are simply called "personal alarms".

I think the price is good, and these things certainly are not useless. They are extremely loud, and are a whole lot better than nothing. I also often advise female friends to carry them if they need to walk in deserted places at night.

  • Whatever happened to trusty old rape whistles?

Why would you need it if you are travelling alone? Just to let everyone know?

  • +2

Use it on the call centre scammers.

  • Lol who pays for these things anymore, I know quite a few councils (mine and a few others in Perths East) give away the alarms, whistles and first aid (pouches of band-aids) for free usually at the local festivals or chambers.

I have a few around, it helps shut my sister up with the piercing noise of the thing as required.

    • you just need a good set of earplugs mate. or move else where you wouldn't hear your sister screaming.

      • I have earplugs however they are annoying, so I fight fire with fire (whilst wearing the earplugs). Rinse and Repeat as necessary.

  • *Ideal for night shift workers, ladies, elderly, disabled, joggers, and those traveling alone.

Or, judging from the tv news or the paper every day, anybody walking around Sydney, or driving a car, trying to mind their own business.

  • I'd wonder how hard this was to pop open (ie to set off the alarm).
If it's too easy, you might be sitting on the loo scratching your leg or something and 'off it goes', sending people running to you.
If it's too hard, you've just been attacked & have to politely ask your attacker if they could pause their actions for a moment so you can pull the cord.

  • Bystander apathy.I would suggest enrolling in a self-defence class instead.

For the doubters out there: the main benefit is the psychological effect which a sudden large amount of noise has on people. It scares the hell out of attackers, making them more unnerved than they are likely to already be. Attackers prefer scared and silent victims, not noisy ones who draw attention to themselves.

How is this a bargain? No discounts and the product can be bought cheaper from other eBay sellers. This reeks of advertising to me.

I bet you complain about Chinese shipped products and here you are complaining about AU shipping
Everything can be bought cheaper from Chinese sellers.

      • Nope I don't complain about Chinese shipped products especially when they are half the price, like it is in this case. I bet you are new here, I am guessing you are not aware what constitutes a bargain.

  • This one is rape proof certified

    • *not guaranteed to work against deaf rapists

For people who can't be bothered screaming..
