Lousy KFC Service at Yagoona

Ordered a giant feast at KFC Yagoona, asked specifically if they had included breast and thigh pieces in the 15 pieces of chicken and was told by the girl "yes was included" and got home and not one breast or thigh was inside. This is the second time that this has happened. Rang the manager and he asked me "what would you like me to do about it?" This is disgusting service and the manger should learn to run his store professionally. I will not be going back to KFC Yagoona again.

Tell them the time, where and manager name. Hopefully you can score free food.

I got food poisoning from a KFC several months ago. Put in a complaint online and they sent me 2x $20 vouchers. It took me a few months to trust them enough again to use them though.

A few years ago a KFC nearby "burned" the chicken twice in a row. (The oil was too old.) That was months apart because we rarely eat take away. Both times they took our name and said to come in sometime in the next two weeks - we got the same order again free.

The second time we did this the manager wanted us to bring back the remainder of the chicken. I told him we couldn't because KFC had closed by the time we sat down to eat - and because nothing else was open, we pulled the skin off and ate just the chicken. He grumbled but we still got our freebie.

      • +1

Honestly to get food poisoning from KFC they would have had to stuff something up really bad…

        • +2

Exactly. Thought I'd be safe with them, but nope. Original chicken fillet burger - started repeating on me with about a quarter left to eat. I knew instantly what I was going to be doing in an hour.

        • +2

Actually thinking about it you could easily have had the food poisoning from the cheese, bread etc which is less of an issue for me then chicken.

        • +2

Didn't a girl get severe, completely debilitating brain damage from food poisoning at KFC?

Cross contamination is a difficult risk to eliminate.

        • +3

Happened to me too. Had a twister. Within the hour I was feeling a bit dodgey.

Couldn't work for the next 2 days because of the explosive diarrhea. I have NEVER had food poisoning like that before.

That was 2 years ago. I haven't eaten there since and don't think I ever will again.

        • yes but that case was very suspicous. the mother had cooked a large chicken feast before which the doctors did not rule out and due to the time frame thought that was the most probable cause. apparently all 4 family members shared 1 twister because the little girl couldnt finish it (hard to beleive) and they could not prove that they purchased it - no receipt, no credit card statement, no wrapper or anything, they didnt take the vomit samples for testing and kfc had no record for a single twister being purchased that day like they claimed let alone at the specific time. the cameras did not show these people and no-one else had claimed to be poisened at the same time. no-one recognised them and they couldnt prove that they were near the place at the time. im glad kfc lost (pending appeal) but the circumstances just dont add up. kfc could have just made them a charity donation to look after the severly disabled daughter but they were unreasonable.

        • +6

If all you say is correct, I think KFC should have fought it.

        • +1

Hate to tell you but food poisoning would never happen that quick (whilst you were still eating the burger)?? Maybe it was something that you ate prior to that! Even onset of 1 hour would be extremely quick and stuff like that is usually limited to dodgy seafood and the like!

        • incorrect pir8king1982

There are two types of food poisoning, one of them can happen in 30-45mins.

        • I didn't get the food poisoning immediately. But I could tell I would because I could taste the chicken fillet was off - not all of it, just as I got near to finishing, it had that disgusting… taste when I burped.

        • They did but they got owned because of the amount. Of. Evidence. Of unhygenic practises I.e dropped chicken on the floor being put back in. Time policies not being adhered too running out of cleaning chemical. It wad their own staff that admitted it. They are appealing

        • +1

          Sounds very suspicious.

        • +1

kfc had no record for a single twister being purchased that day like they claimed let alone at the specific time.

They didn't have records for any other purchases around that time either, because they'd 'somehow' lost all sales records for that day

        • I agree with kwaker, the case itself by the family sounded suspicious from the start.

  • +7

When the Manager asked you what you'd like done about it, what was your response?

  • +1

You said it - "This is disgusting" (and BTW, so is the service)

  • +1

"Lousy KFC service" - something Homer would say.

    • +6

Yes it is a quote from both the Iliad and the Odyssey. You, sir, are a literary nerd.

      • +1

        lol

  • -1

Isn't there 9 pieces in a kfc chicken, With 1 breast. And every 2nd customer has the same request. It's the luck of the draw, and what did you want the manager to do? He obviously asked what would be your solution to this?

    • +2

actually not many people had specific requests, most people just take what they get. the 2 peice feed is usually set as a drum and a thigh so breast peice is not used that much, some people request a 21 peice bucket all breasts, they are refused but if they want that they can pay the individual price or get the boneless peices at the premium. but when you specifically asked and they told you it was included they should have made sure. next time when they finish packing your box ask them how many breasts are in there? and how many thighs, this makes them think twice.

      • +1

Actually… it isn't about what most customers ask for it's about the other team mates that you're working with who always seem to use only breast, thighs, ribs and legs leaving a billionty wings simply because they don't like having grumpy customers complain about their combination and then have to change the chicken/throw it out if the customer has touched the packaging (which you have to by policy). This is turn means that you end up with a whole lot of wings left at the end which someone gets the unfortunate job of offloading on a single customer.

Yes there are policies such as set combinations but they are so uselessly enforced that customers feel discriminated against because "the other store did it"

Its generally not a single persons fault. If you want to blame anyone, blame the government for making it legal to employ 13 year olds at 30-40% of the cost of minimum wage. This means KFC employs no one under 20 and in turn that you get sloppy service. Or blame KFC for not enforcing it's policies. Or blame the employee that didn't say "hey all my teammates only left me with a billionty wings, would you like to wait 15-20 minutes (the time it takes for chicken to be prepped and cooked from scratch).

  • +3

I would agree about taking "What do you want me to do about it?" More literally and less offensively. It's worth having an explanation like "I'd like a free meal, the staff to be disciplined and/or you as a manager to ensure customer requests are taken seriously" They might have said it in a sarcastic tone but if you give them something to work with you at least aren't beating around the bush.

  • +15

Sounds like you did it via the drive thru. Then didn't check you got what you wanted before leaving, then declined the managers offer of a freebie. What the staff member stated at the window/counter can be easily checked by opening the lid before you drive off. Esecially if it has happened before. As for the descriptive you used……disgusting…..that's just way over the top. Finding a cockroach in your potato/gravy is disgusting. Not getting your favorite pieces after asking, is lax or uninformative service at worst.

  • +1

Sounds like the Manager gave you the opportunity to have your dilema fixed, albeit a
    frustrating situation.
"What would you like me to do about it?" - gives you the opportunity to - tell him.
Sure you can still berate him for his staffs incompetence, but also say:
'I'd like you to deliver a box of chicken breast and thigh pieces immediately so we can enjoy
    our meal right now'.
Nothing to stop you being bolder either.
'Please deliver another ginat fiest - this time with breast and thighs and have your delivery man
collect the one we have received which is not as described or up to standard'.

    • +2

they wont deliver so dont bother asking for delivery, also if you get smart they will also demand you return the chicken and they will swap it. so just ask for a store credit (for the same value or less than a whole bucket) dont push your luck and if you make it easy/reasonable for them they will be happy to accept

  • -3

KFC burnside in Victoria had very poor service, store presentation etc, then a young new manager took it over and it was on the up.
I actually said to the manager, 'since you've been here, things have improved', he was very happy and said thanks.
However I went back a couple of months ago (try not to consume too much fast food, but love my twisters!), and unfortunately things have gone backwards again, not enough salad on my Twister, one had more sauce/mayo than the other etc.

    • +9

thats really not the mangement but the individual maker of the twister that day. the kid making it might have been rushed or tired that day or it might be the norm. the manager doesnt really supervise all of the individual tasks. you can take it back to the counter and ask to talk to the person who made it. remember they are usually just kids who are learning so tell them what they are doing wrong otherwise they dont know so they can't learn. dont get abusive - you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, they will replace your wrap and your advice might sink in for the next time they make them. but of course some people like more sauce some people like less so either way someone is due to come back and complaint no matter how you make it. due to very poor working conditions kfc dont retain staff for long so its not like they have 'senior experienced' twister makers. if your specific about how you like it specify that when you order and be clear and stern about it but not abusive.

      • A manager ultimately is responsible, in particular in a place like KFC. It's not just the way I like it, as stated, one had too much the other too little, inconsistency. I dont why you say abusive, I wasn't. I have had twisters/burgers replaced, not the point, I rather have it right the first time and be happy. I should mention it's almost always take away, so i do not ever feel like driving back.

  • +2

The last time we were in kfc - which, not coincidentally, was the last time - such was the time it took to be served (teenage staff chatting in the back and intentionally ignoring), the we decided to walk out and go elsewhere - which we did.

    • +1

This is exactly what I used to experience at Burnside KFC, and im afraid it's heading back that way again.

  • +5

    a. Buy a pressure cooker
    b. Google TC34d and read lots
    c. Do
    d. Problem solved ;-)

    • i looked that up last time, seemed really complicated and people were conflicted on some of the ingrediants. do you have a link to a easier recipe? did you put vanilla in it?

      • +3

It is complicated. It took me a LOT of reading and learning before I even began trying to cook it. It's definitely a labour of love!

Yes I did use vanilla. You probably already know this if you've been reading, but it's not the vanilla available almost everywhere. Even the 2 or 3 vanilla beans Woolworths sell in a small white box - is not labelled what variety they are.

You need the tahitian variety (used by gourmet pastry chefs), not the bourbon type which is far more common. I bought the tahitian variety on ebay and had to dry and powder them myself.

This is the recipe I use:
        http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2430753/tc34d-doc-december-1…

        • thanks that helped alot. yes the tahitian vanilla was my first hurdle. now i need to buy and learn how to use a pressure cooker

        • +1

You're not meant to use them for frying oil. So be sure not to fill above the MAX line when all the chicken and oil is in it. I've done it dozens of times now. Hide behind a door the first few times to be safe. ;-p

Make sure you get a 15 psi one. The cheap ones on ebay are something like 7 psi. Get an 8L or larger to fit one typical-sized chicken cut into pieces. And one with a silicon gasket, not rubber as it could melt.

Read those sites you mentioned. There's lots of other info to learn like brining the chicken, the egg wash, the type of flour, oil temp, time with lid on, time in oven afterwards to dry it out a bit…

  • +1

I agree, preparation and presentation of meals comes down to training, which is the responsibility of management. I hate the fact that their chips are described as lightly seasoned, but this rarely happens unless the staff member is a keen newbie who is liberal with the shaker. When you try to ask for salted chips they always state it as extra chicken salt which requires them stuffing the box full and then dumping half a ton on top of the exposed chips.

  • +1

I just find the suburban stores lacking in good food. I seldom go to KFC but Yagoona's the closest one to me. The dry chicken was a prompt reminder to go visit high turn-over stores like the one in the city or busy fast food court KFCs. Let me tell ya, the chicken tastes a lot better when it's not sitting on the shelf and since you're there in person you can check your box for suspicious pieces.

  • +2

A true ozbargainer would fry their own bloody chicken.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2009/jul/…

Tastes a lot better and is cheaper too.

    • I do, I do!

I think that guy refers to the current KFC, which is a poor shadow of what it once was. I'd probably reduce the chilli powder by half and I don't know about using oregano. I've tried it and it smells like tea leaves to me.

He'd also be frying in oil in an open frypan or saucepan. I once used the same seasoning mix twice - once cooked in a saucepan and once in a pressure cooker. The first was very mediocre. The pressure cooker version was just amazing (delicious).

  • +1

"I will not be going back to KFC Yagoona again."

I'm sure they're really going to miss you.

  • The KFC at the corner of Elizabeth St and Flinders lane, Melbourne CBD, acutally burned a whole bucket of KFC that we bought. BURNT KFC!

That was about 2 years ago. Never been back to that store since

    • -1

How do you burn KFC without a flame - it could've be electrocuted, but not burnt.

      • +2

The skin was much darker than normal and it was dry.
I did not think it was possible too but it did.

  • All KFC's have the worst service, they never get bloody anything right.
    Never give you serviettes either.
Along with the doubling of their prices over the last several years.
I personally have crossed them OFF my dine-out list FOREVER.
You don't put up with bad service and training.

    • No serviettes is a HQ delivered policy.
How else are they going to keep the prices down so low.

    • +2

Last month I visit them weekly. So far I always get serviettes and good services.

You can not generalise that services are bad in all KFCs. There's multiple factors to be considered, to name a few I think it depends on the branch/location, the staff training, their individual attitude, the management training, and of course the manager's leadership, policy and attitude.

The other thing is the staff turnover is very high, therefore lack of knowledge retention about the common operation and service procedures also an important factor. Remember place like KFC and Maccas have lots of high school interns.

      • The prices are not that low… Actually KFC is a lot more expensive than other take away.

  • +1

I used to buy "Cheap as Chips" package and sometimes I forgot to bring the voucher.

KFC Springvale (Cnr Dandenong Rd & Police Rd Springvale VIC 3171) really sucks. Especially their manager. They once don't allow me to buy without the voucher, I walkaway and find another KFC that can give me easily. There are a lot of KFC stores that can be more than welcome to accept my payment. Hohoho…

I don't think showing voucher is a big deal, why? they giveaway the voucher to every household freely and NOT selected ones. Why bother with the voucher? Very stupid policy.

Probably they're afraid everyone will rush them buying Cheap as Chips package without voucher? They must be kidding.

The other time I tried to buy in KFC Springvale using drive thru and I intentionally don't bring the voucher. The reason is simple, I just want to see their reaction as they have packed all the meals in the plastic bag. Do they want to accept my purchase? So I order the Cheap as Chips smoothly, and of course they did not ask me to show the voucher as I was using drive thru :) The time has come… when in the cashier they are asking "can you tender the voucher?" I replied " I don't have it, I left it at home. Do you want me to pay or not?" They consult with their manager and you can bet hahaha…. I won of course :) That's the best moment in my life :)

    • +8

"That's the best moment in my life :)"

You've lived a miserable life Mr mponderosa.

      • +3

you're one to talk, one man clan. ;)

        • Some people like peace & quiet, I love a woman that loves to talk, yet I love getting the silent treatment, o 0 the irony!

  • +3

I dislike when you go to the collection window, the worker hands over your bag of food and repeats your order but says it as quick as possible so you have no idea what they are saying but all you're thinking at the time is, how have they stuffed up my order today.

    • because they are in a rush to get you going, the cars are all timed. tell them to repeat it slowly. ask them does it have the extra salt i asked to be put on the chips? is the chips upsized like i asked etc dont leave until your happy.

    • +1

Have a note ready to discretely tape below the window
      "Please check your order thoroughly.
      Unsupervised junior/trainee on duty."

this will slow down the throughput.

    • +1

Rarely does the order get repeated, so I have to always have to check the food.

  • +2

Don't go to any KFC in general. Constantly giving far too many chicken wings and staff are completely incompetent. Ordered 12 pieces or whatever and watched as the bogan girl counted each one slowly in the box. I counted in my head whilst she put them in ever so slowly like a sloth or bogan mule. Upon recieving the box, I asked "Are you sure that is 12?" She replied "Yes, 12 pieces". I counted them in the box…surprise surprise 11 pieces. You only had one job.

    • +3

      you cant count either?

      • Hi cibai, I think krazed15 stated he can count it from a distance

    • +3

isn't it funny that when they get the quantity wrong its always that your missing a peice not that they put another peice in.

i never understood why the dinner for 2 has 5 peices. its like they want people to fight over the last peice.

      • to make the last one even yummier :P half-half perhaps?

  • hm…. sounds strange… let me see if I got this correct. You ordered 15 pieces and non of them were breast or thigh. Isn't there only 4 different kinds of pieces: thigh, drumstick, wing, breast. So you saying you got 15 pieces of only win and drumstick??? Never seen that ever…

    • I used to works at KFC and I have seen other staff do that (which i have then told them to repack). KFC does have a certain method for packing chicken although it is hard to do so sometimes depending on whats available of people ask for specific peices. Roughly for a 10 piece pack (it has been about 10 years since i worked there memory is not that great) i think it was 4 legs 3 wings 2 thigh and 1 breast. If i dont get close to this I always ask for them to repack and if they argue ask to see a manager and remind them what the standard procedure is.

    • they also have ribs peices

  • Campsie NSW KFC is worst then Yagoona
Bought a 9pc box. 7pcs if wings and drumstick and 2 pcs of I don't know what(dark, old, burned!!). 3 or 4 pcs of the chicken were like yesterdays chicken, burned and size of 2pcs of chicken nugget. This is no way to treat customers. They enjoy screwing up the customers and think they are doing a great job. Been there a few times and never ever once I am please with the treatment.

On the other hand Concord West has great customer service. Chicken is fresh, well cooked and fair chicken pcs distribution.

all these stories are making me feel like KFC, hahaha/

  • -2

Seems the reported issues happened all only in NSW? Yagoona, Campsie, what else?
How about the other state guys? In terms of the chicken quality and its compo in the box I never found it as a problem here in VIC.

    • Read my comments about Burnside Victoria.

  • You can get a whole chook at Woolies for $10.50…

I would not like to see what goes on out the back of these fast food chook places.. :-(

    • +1

Erm… My family has had food poisoning many times from BBQ chicken.

      • Really? I always get the ones near closing time for like $3 bucks and me Na-Da.

But the thing that freaks me out is the woolies chicken can keep in the fridge for over a week. I wonder what they pump into the chicken.

        • You must not be in NSW. We've been told by several different store managers they are only allowed to mark BBQ chickens down by 35% now. If they don't sell at that price there are no further markdowns, they just go in the skip bin. Even staff aren't allowed (supposed) to touch them at that point.

What they pump in is sugar and water. Well, and egyptian mummy embalming fluid. ;-)

  • The girl and manager are probably laughing at you too.

Don't go back and spread negative word of mouth to your friends.
